My mind is kind of blown right now. I've had to replace sticks for several years now and it's very easy with the right tools i.e. soldering iron, solder and desoldering pump/braid. I've never once thought of doing anything like this and just tried it out on a stick by "transplanting" another sensor out of a stick and IT WORKS! No drift! Now, situations like this are of course for sticks that are NOT loose and feel as they should, like the stick I just fixed, yet for one reason or another drift nonetheless. @Tobias Lundström you can take sensors from old controllers as long as they have not caused drift issues with that old controller. The side sensor is for up and down movement. The bottom sensor is for right and left movement. Depending on what type of drift you have (forward/backward movement or side-to-side movement) will determine what sensor you need to replace. Same for the aiming joystick. Remember. Up&down = side sensor, left&right = bottom sensor

@@jennaxx756 Pressing up on the analog stick would cause it to 'stick', continuing to send input, even when the analog stick was returned to a neutral position. You can download an app on your Xbox called Game Controller Tester. If you see the analog stick still registering input and moving when you're not touching it, it's likely a sensor issue. If that applies to you, you should be able to rectify it by using the instructions in the video.

I just wanted to say this somewhere in hopes that you read... THANK YOU SO MUCH for stocking the orange sensor wheels, -i own a scuf impact controller, and it apparently came with a weirdly bent one, -so for the time being i un-bent it so it worked... but the deadzone was dummy thicc, and i looked alllll over the internet, and like...you're LITERALLY the only one who sells the orange ones. -My friend bought some for me and sent them, -now my controller...it works PERFECTLY, as it should. They are in good condition, and actually look better than the ones that were already in my controller (the little rings/bar-cuts are nicely spaced-out evenly, and the amount that they are bent up is uniform. i am so so so SO happy you have this store, -that is a goddamn 475$ in canadian, controller right there, it's not funny that there are so many issues and the disk came all weird, -i also have to "constantly" remove them, clean the sensor-area, and then insert them again to remove this weird flickering deadzone issue due to some sortof weird non-organic "dirt" getting in there ...so yeah, annoying and stupid, but HEY, it fixes it!, and gaming helps me with my depression, so i can't stress enough how happy i am that you sell these disks. (lol, and incase i f-up while cleaning one, i'm happy to now have backups) Now my controller works NOICE, very nice, and my little de-stressifying 'life-savings' worth controller isn't stressing me out with the dumb stuff it likes to pull, lol. The only thing i worry about is...what the heck swivels the disk-enclosure open?, is is a mechanism or just soldier bending???. THAT kinds worries me, don't want it to snap and only be heldby the cases's snapps, but luckily i've had to do less sensor cleaning as often, so...hopefully it's okay for a while, and maybe i won't have to clean it anymore someday. it seems to have gone from every 2 days to every week now, and with the new sensors...maybe it will be less often. it's so good now. Anyways, thanks for having such a diverse controller tech-pieces and things shop, it is so awesome and i hope your buisiness keeps going well, i bet you make alot of people happy like silly me, lol.

I have controller model 1708 which worked fantastic for MANY years of heavy use and the right stick started to drift real bad. I bought a new one to replace it last month (April 2023) which has no model number I can see but says Xbox Wireless Controller in the battery compartment. This new one got bad Left stick drift this week, only a month after I bought it so I am going through the Microsoft Warranty to replace it, but I still want to play games while it's being replaced. I watched this video. I pulled out my old model 1708 today and opened it up and cleaned the filthy Sensor thingy (shown in your video here) with DEOXIT contact cleaner and swabs. This fixed the drift issue! At least long enough until Micro$oft sends me a replacement on the new one, I hope. I also just ordered a replacement sensor set for the future. Thanks for the video. The sensor piece is way tinier than the video made it seem, and closing back the green box after putting the sensor back in was a total PAIN - but, this worked, and I thank you for this video. If anyone has a model 1708, which is newer than the one in this video, you can view the video from SOSS GAMING that mentions NEWEST METHOD to show you how to take the controller apart, although there is one additional component mine had that is not addressed in either video: a tiny wire connected from the "motherboard" to the "stick board" inside orange cellophane that you DON'T want to break. It's front/center when you take the cover off and has a supertiny 'snap' type connector that seems like you should be able to disconnect/reconnect easily but it's so delicate I would not trust to do that more than a couple times. So, all in all, this was a no-solder fix and I am HAPPY for that!

The piece shown at 5:31, I realized needs to have the metal at its 12 o' clock point ever so slightly folded/creased over so that its not totally flat. Thats what causes the drift! The piece doesnt go bad, the metal just flattens out. Restore the slight "bump" on the metal and your controller sticks will literally act like brand new, no replacement parts needed, no solder, no nothing!

This method fixed my unresponsive forward input on the joystick. Since the stick wasn't broken and is still solid I only needed to replace the sensor for the front/back input. I don't own an iron so this was a good video to find. This repair also works for the series x controllers as well. 😁👍

This video is great, thanks! I just fixed my controller, no more drift now. But for the left stick you don't need to disassemble the controller that much, I was able to access the green bit to do the repair as soon as I pulled off the thumbstick, without removing the circuit board at all. It's a bit of a tighter area to work in, but still pretty easy.

Thanks! Turns out that the reason my left analog stick was drifting up and down was because the area behind the sensor was dirty, so I didn't have to replace anything! * I cleaned sensor, put it back in, and it works! I also just cleaned the whole circuit board. (Up and down drifted on the left stick, for awhile up didn't even work.) Check out the analog sensor if you are having trouble with the stick, because it probably has to do with that. **Could also be a problem with the circuit board itself.. or something stuck inside of the stick or a number of different things.. (BTW IM NOT EDUCATED ON THIS OR ANYTHING IM JUST GUESSING?? AND TALKING ABOUT WHAT I DID)

My issue is the left stick being unresponsive when pushing it forward, it works in all the other directions, just not forward, which sucks, I can force it to work by holding down (clicking) on the left stick while pushing forward Is this the sensor not working? I have a spare controller and would like to know if this fixed it if I do some surgery. Thanks a lot, this was a very detailed video!

Hi, I did the same thing without replacing the analog stick sensor wheel. I did remove the sensor, washed it with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush and put back the sensor in place. The color of the contact passed from copper black to metal gray witch is a good. It seem to have fixed the issues for now. Be careful not to damage the green plastic case it is fragile. Thanks for the tutorial

I was just about to comment that the old one could be cleaned rather than replacing it. Back in the late 70s, early 80s, this was a common problem with Atari paddle controllers. The parts were bigger and it was a knob instead of a stick, but it worked on the same principle. The contacts would get dirty/oxidized, leading to jittery movement. A good cleaning fixed this so that they worked like new again.

It happened with me. Disassembling over again i discovered that those white pins shown on the vid at 6:24 can be damaged if you, somehow, manage to bend it. Well, the results of it was: my left analog was acting like the right analog on the X axis, and my right analog was doing nothing on the X axis. As soon as i inserted it correctly it just started working properly. Btw that was on my ps3 analogs, wich i did about 3 cleaning on those copper wires those pins hold. Have a great day

Thanks so much! Saved me 50 bucks! Only thing different was, mine had two tiny antenna (I assume) wires connecting the two boards together. The tiny sockets were so small, I broke one trying to get it back on. I took a chance and soldered it, and it worked! A quick recalibration was all it took to get it 100%.

I just fixed both joysticks on the ‘One S’ controller. That sensor thing is crazy tiny! Also, the new controller has a short wire connecting the two boards in the middle so you can’t flip that other board over. Both sticks were drifting for me. I just used cotton swabs and alcohol to clean all in there. Had to shave a bit off the tip of 2 screw drivers just to open it and unscrew the boards haha. but I’m crazy happy that it works just like new now. Had some yellow gunk. Thanks man!

@visitor4046 жыл бұрын
