I have the original Ruger American predator in 6.5 Creed and I was impressed with the out of box accuracy. I put my Arken genII 6-24 on it and it is capable of hitting out to 1200 yds. I’m very new to LRS, and just beginning to dabble in NRL22. The prevailing wisdom is that you need to spend no less than $1200 on a rifle and scope to consistently hit targets 175 - 200 yards away. So far you are shooting 3.5X that distance with 2/3 the cost. And I have no doubt you will hit that mile in the next video. You are truly a master of your craft.
@XRINGКүн бұрын
Thnaks MJ! I have done a lot of NRL22x and PRS rimfire competition and can say that you won’t go wrong with anything like a CZ 457 and an Arken or Athlon scope to stay in Production division. The biggest advice is to take the time to lot test your ammo regardless of the make and model. If you can consistently hold about 1” groups at 100yards for 10 shots you can compete and any level all the way out to 400yards. You will need a Kestrel for the best results. You will also want about 40moa built into your scope base and mount setup. 👍🏼 best of luck to you and thanks for watching.

I don’t know about everyone else but with all this information ( research and testing) and the video to prove it , I believe this rifle setup just went up in value at least $400. 👍🏼 Great video.

I recently joined the 1000 yard club with a HOWA 1500 $450.00 barreled action. I married it to an MDT chassis. I did spend a ton on a Vortex Razor (cause I'm a glass snob 🙂) - but, someone with younger eyes could probably do the same with a lot less. It's amazing how far the pew community has come with data and tech to get us to distance. You Sir, are a Master at this. A Howa 1500 barreled action in an MDT Oryx chassis was my 2nd long range precision build but it put me over $1000 to complete as I didnt cut any corners.. but my very first long range precision rifle build was a Remington 783 Tactical HBT (Heavy Barrel Threaded) in 6.5 Creedmoor with 24" Heavy Barrel 1:8 twist, an Insight Arms Heathen G2 muzzle brake, factory trigger and stock, and I mounted a cheaper but very solid $200 Spina Optics 6-24x50 FFP MRAD scope with a 20MOA rail and a Harris bipod.. and I was just under $1000 -

@@joshuaw2988, there is only one scope that I would spend a thousand dollars on TRACT Toric; they are top-tier scopes in everything. You have young eyes, and Arken will do the job well enough. Absolutely fantastic video last spring! Last video I went out with some friends to shoot out to 600 yds they brought their hunting rifles and I brought my 11.5 556 because it was what I was most familiar with and with a little help of 4dof I was able to get first round impacts all the way out to 500 and my friends started struggling at 300 . I realized even though they had hunted all their lives they had never taken a shot past 250 crazy.

My longest shot is 440 yards on a deer. At the ranges around here it’s 300yards. Someone has bound to have a longer range somewhere but I just don’t know about it. Many hunters just don’t have practice ranges to develop their long range shooting. Plus a lot of them just don’t have the time or won’t take the time. A lot of hunters only shoot their rifles just before the season starts and then if they see a deer. Then it’s cleaned and back in the gun cabinet or closet.

Howa 1500 6.5 mm Creedmoor bull barrel with standard Hogue stock. home bedded with a 3x19mm steel insert in the forend. The scope is honestly a no name brand from a local gun shop. Honestly it has no branding on it. 1100 yards (1000 meters) absolutely no problem, maintains 1.25 MOA at that distance (no wind) Even my 11 year old grandson does it at that distance. Ammo, Sellier & Bellot 142 grains HPBT. Stuff is extremely expensive in South Africa, literally double the price or more compared to anywhere in the world. If you shop right you can really really build a budget rifle that can compete wait anything out there for a fraction of the price. I googled the Bipod, cannot remember the name, bought from a local shooting range, less than $60 in South Africa, half price anywhere else. Really guys, this video is proof once again you do not have to spend a fortune on equipment to have fun.

My first time out with the rifle and scope i literally zeroed at 100 and used an app to make first round impacts out to 600. I was honestly disappointed because i went out that day with the expectation of having to really work with the rifle and scope. Also, i was using a nikon 4x12 i got from walmart with a bdc reticle for 140$. With the scopes, ammo, rifles and apps we have now days its stretched what the average man is capable of. I also must say that i have seen videos posted of retired military snipers with supposedly great records struggle at 300 and 500yrds. As a matter of fact, it was 2 retired snipers with big followings that struggled to hit targets.

Just a tip,, once the shot is fired,, eject the case as fast you can(no stress) the heat will go from the case into the chamber walls,if the case is in the camber ,and air will be able to go trough the barrel because of the chimney effect,,(keep the barrel tilted as much as you can ) and cool the barrel faster

"Has long range gotten too easy?" It wasn't many years ago when rangefinders were more guess than science, and today a modern rangefinder is a computer. We didn't have accurate chronographs, and we didn't have easy access to the high-quality ammunition we have today. The machines that produce rifle barrels today are far more precise than they were just a few years ago, and modern metals are better. Then, optics are light-years better. Long range shooting has come a long way in just a decade or two. Shooting far still requires skill and practice, but modern rifles sure make shooting far easy.
