You did not say what they answered when you asked them about ending up with a 8,000 suit that you can not use if they go out of business (since you need to pay the annual fee for their software) at 24:47
@freenomon24663 жыл бұрын
looks like with the new xsens pricing there is no more half price discount on mvn pro. and no more hd on standard mvn either. so to get hd processing you have to pay 8.5k/year

Xsens and Rokoko in Source Filmmaker?
@Cine_Coverop2 жыл бұрын
After trying out Rokoko TWICE, I will never suggest the suit to anyone. It's slightly cheaper but It's not worth the hassle that you'll need to put yourself through cleaning/recording mocap data. My personal question about Xsens is about using additional trackers. Can you use a single tracker (non MvN Awinda) without MVN Awinda? Like recording loc/rot for Ghost from Destiny ?

Ron, thx for the tutorials. You’ve verbalized my exact experience with Rokoko. Returning it tomorrow. And most likely going with XSens Awinda Starter. Question, I also work in Blender so I’m curious on your configuration computer wise. I am a Mac user so I’ll need to get a Windows PC to run XSens software. What brand and configuration would you recommend that will run XSens HD processing seamlessly?
@RonDucats33 жыл бұрын
I run Windows 10 and I have AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core 16-thread Desktop Processor - 8 cores And 16 threads The better the processor the faster all your takes will proccess. However that is only if you get the pro version. Otherwise you'll need to use the cloud (their new system) My latest videos explain everything

We've been using the Rokoko Smartsuit with the Virtual Production plugin and it's been a bit painful if being fully honest. Trying to find a location that didn't have magnetic interference was a pain, we're on our second suit and still had sensors fail on the new one and the rework/cleanup time is far more than we were hoping for. Definitely looking at Xsens for our next game, the amount of rework time saved alone would make the price worth it if all of the reviews on Xsens are true. Thanks for the info and honest reviews of both the Xsens and the Rokoko suit
@RonDucats34 жыл бұрын
I agree. If you save money and time on fixing up mocap, there isn't much cleanup to do on xsens. Mostly small changes you'd like and retargetting characters that need a little tune up with animation. Its saved me so much time
@LoganMcNay3 жыл бұрын
That yearly cost is killer by itself. Even if they did an indie service and sold the software for way less that'd be way more manageable, but the yearly fee is ridiculous. If it was a one time purchase it'd be a no brainer to go to xsens over rokoko

Thanks so much for these insights! You mentioned that the Hd-processings takes a bit of time and benefits of a good CPU. Is it possible to record on a laptop for instance and then do the hd-processing on a beefy workstation later on?

Xsens could do away with subscription for indie developers, keep that for big companies. Or no subscription under a certain amount of income generated. Unreal Engine does something similar, no royalties until you make serious money. What do you guys think?
@WOCITY Жыл бұрын
Thats a great idea. Kudos to UE! Xsens dont understand yet it would only boost popularity and sales.

Hi Ron, thanks for the so helpful reviews. Do you know if the Awinda suit works well at a good range? I'm planning to go on parks, fields etc to record long One shot sequences, where the character have to move a lot, and a bit far from his initial position. Is it gonna create problems or impact quality, like going 50, 100 meters away from the laptop?
@RonDucats33 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can be up to 150 ft away from the antenna or outside range for 30 sec outside (ask xsens for more details). But yes I've gone outside and mocapped many times at basketball and tennis courts. I've only had little leg twitches in mocap outside

Yea the yearly subscription for the software is high if your not making good money to cover that cost which is unfortunate , but business need to make money to stay afloat. Is there any software thats a good alternative to the ikenima software that Apple bought out and shelved that can produce good animations for regulat mocap with added hands and face capture? I'm saving up money for a low budget mocap system and I was thinking of starting with some vive trackers and see how far I can get with that for starters , and hopefully one day get a xsens system or something. A full 12 camera vicon system would be a pipe dream to have. Lol Rocoko seems ok but I dont want to deal either magnet issues. Xsense seems like the way for now besides researching vive trackers set up and see how much I can mocap with that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@RonDucats32 жыл бұрын
Rokoko sounds like your best bet tbh There is a UE4 plugin that could record vive animation albeit not as good as ikinema
@RonDucats32 жыл бұрын
Also this video pricing is not up to date for xsens. There is a 4,000$ suit with a small monthly cost or free depending on what you need. Watch my latest vids on it

I would like to hear more about that

What do you think about MVN Awinda Vs MVN Link, i think there is some difference of Refresh Rate, one has 60 and the other one has 240, do you think there will be a significant difference between those to consider going for the higher one?
@RonDucats34 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for the 240, but I know I've never wished I had more refresh rate. 60 is perfectly enough imo
@michachmielewicz84144 жыл бұрын
the more significant difference is the ability to record out of range, as with MVN Link you have the BodyPack and 10 minutes of out of range buffer. In addition, the ROBR and recording option takes completely offline, even in the desert or forest :)

@georges84083 жыл бұрын
thank you for these info... the system looks nice but, as you said, not for individuals.. it is toooooo expensive for solo/indie people that make no money from their work... when an average salary for young people in south Europe is somewhere 750 to 1100 euro/month you can clearly see that this cost is not affordable at all... however from what i have seen xsens is giving much better data than other "cheaper"(?) systems out there... from your experience if you want to use this for film making, is the motion capture realistic enough to apply in metahumans (UE) for example ?
