It would be cool to see specific conditions for tuning races, such as only being allowed to use stock and sports parts, or a one-make race with unlimited tuning restrictions, or having to use a turbocharger/supercharger as part of your tune, etc. and this could work really well for both single player or multiplayer races

I would say that these kind of "race restrictions" would be the best thing to happen for gt7. I would feel like you're racing in a spec-ish series, or, in some length on the same "class" of cars. Those vague race conditions for only power and weight opens too much room for unfair abuse of some game exploit. Or worse, it will end up like forza horizon multi-player.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was fearing would happen in GT7. I was so happy when I did my first Daily Race B and saw a big variety of cars being used, but now there are more and more Peugeot hybrids and the number of 'normal' cars I see is gradually decreasing. If the L500R ends up being the go-to for all road car races, it's really going to take away a lot of the appeal GT7 had for me. I know I'm voluntarily handicapping myself sticking with my Mitsubishi GTO, but I can't help but see it as going against the spirit of the game pulling out a VGT hybrid in a road car race - the very first road car race at that.

People who are good at these things will go over the cars and find what is "best" for min/maxing and everyone else will follow along. It is the same thing in the latest Forza, and easier with the sharable tunes, and any other game with in depth mods. I also play Escape from Tarkov and it is full of this mentality. While it may not be optimal I say race what you find fun and tune it/drive as best you can.

As someone who came from sports and is mostly interested in daily races the fucking peugeot was in every race I made since mondy. I refuse to buy the shit thing. Using it is like playing COD on playstation, but with mouse and keyboard and crossplay deactivated. Its just a cowardly dick move. I have no eespect for the guys using it...

Daily races need to be based on performance points (PP) much more often. Look at Super GT`s Peugeot VGT PP (626 after de-tuning) and compare to Skyline R34 used by Super GT (580 PP). PP apparently takes into account the hybrid advantage pretty well. Almost a 10% difference in PP between R34 and VGT, that is a massive difference.

@@CalculatedRiskAK What I'm guessing is that, since the game released less than one week ago, PD is still trying to see how to balance stuff. *I think* they decided to go with this, see how tuning goes, see if there is something too op/too nerfed and then take balancing actions based on the data you have at your disposal. @@huleyn135 if balancing was fast and could be done with a snap of your fingers, it wouldn't be a "slow balancing bs"; problem is, it's slow, and you can't avoid it for multiple reasons: 1) you need data, tons of data, in order to know what needs to be done to buff something underused and nerf something overused, with no data, or not enough of it, you can't do that simply because you can't know what to do; 2) meta and anti-meta picks: a "meta" is what people use the most, aka, what is trending in usage because it's strong, while an "anti-meta" is a counter that can deal with the meta effectively, sometimes even becoming the new meta. In the case of daily race b, you had a meta (4WD cars such as Skylines) pretty much dominating, then you have someone discovering an anti-meta (the L500R) which then became the meta because of how strong it is. Now, over time the meta usually stabilizes around a pick, unless changes (such as nerfing/buffing something, or doscovering an anti-meta, or a new entry becoming a new meta or an anti-meta) happen, and those changes are required since otherwise the meta pick would monopolize the competition; 3) users enjoyability: no one wants to get washed every time because of an unbalanced meta, and developers know that very well. Simply put, people dislike losing, and the fix to this is balancing the meta, again, through various means. Tl;dr you need time to balance stuff and it's complicated.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I remember this car being overpowered in GT6 as well, frequently used in the time trials due to the hybrid boost. Kind of gave it a pass back then because it was a "GT Vision" car, and those were always filled with virtual alien technologies; why most of them were relegated to the X class and one make races. Without any changes though, I'm sure we'll see the same cars getting used over and over again in GT7 as well. Just waiting for the videos about the Chaparral 2J now.

Note the little red/green arrows to either lower side of the "hybrid battery" icon. I believe that indicates whether you're draining battery (red arrow shows under full throttle) or recharging battery (shows green under braking) I think this would also account for the brakes feeling heavier. If you could feather the throttle just below wide open when it's unnecessary to be wide open...you may be able to stretch a full 4 laps with 100% hybrid assisted power

You should lower basically every car, as much as it's allowed. Makes your car steer better, but gives it a slighlty lower topspeed, which is negligible. Same goes for Downforce, but make it as strong as possible

Tuning can be intimidating because of how much every car differs. Some things like lowering the car will help in general, but I’d recommend loading into a time trial while messing with the tuning of components one at a time to actually feel how each adjustment effects the car. This is honestly how I learned tuning back in GT5 because, admittedly I didn’t understand the terminology much either lol. But it does work! Plus your tunes end up more personalized, complimenting your individual driving style.

Hybris unfortunately has been overpowered since GT6; The Toyota TS030 was a 600PP leaderboard staple in back in GT6 because you didn't have to do much to detune it to that level and well, having an unaccounted for 300 HP is always a massive advantage to any vehicle.

I don't think taking out the hybrid would make the peugeot competitive, but starting with 0% hybrid power stored would be the call, as the car regenerates some power when braking and that will give and bit of an acceleration out of every corner of as it happens on lap 4

Be interesting to know how they're geared. My guess is they're relying on the torque from EV motor to get out of the corners with the rest of traffic, but the higher gearing allows them to stay in the gasoline engine's powerband longer down the straights. Once that battery is used up their handicapped the same as the rest of the field. How's the acceleration out of the slow to mid speed turns? That would be the tell.

Yup. The only fix to this is a strong mix of different restrictions and requirements for different races to force different cars. One will still get "meta" cars and setups in each one but it should be a lot easier to try out different setups and cars.

@@pearsetraynor9142 bunch of things, not just hybrid make it quick: low drag, awd, etc.. all of that is unregulated in a power-to-weight class. When the r32 was fastest early in the week people were complaining that awd was too powerful. Reserve judgement for the PP classes

I haven’t played GT since Sport when I last had a PS4 in 2018, but when I was playing that game the BOP generally made things feel fair and accessible. There may have been a car which was more suitable for certain tracks than others, but at least over the course of a season it would balance out. Tuning has had exactly the effect I feared it would in GT7 - an obviously meta car and the need to scour KZbin or forums for the best tune, just to not finish outside the top 10. Not exactly ideal for people that don’t have the time to commit to hours of research and tuning, not to mention the grind for in game credits. I have faith that Polyphony will be monitoring the state of play and hope they will respond to the criticism, but this launch week has put a bit of a dampener on my enthusiasm for multiplayer in GT7 at the moment.

I'm glad to see you used the GTO, that's been my go to car for this race since I didn't have the R34. But I've been using your R34 tune on the GTO and it still works pretty well. I think that's down to how good of a job they did balancing the tuning and performance for this race

Yeah I think a very basic tune is to add racing engine parts (intercooler, air filter etc), the best brakes, weight reduction, then reduce horsepower as necessary.

Steve, thanks for the great content.. I am really quite concerned about where Multiplayer is going. As a part time racer with many a RL commitment I have always enjoyed the pickup and play aspects of GT. As you've said in your videos it's the accessibility of the franchise which attracts you to it. I really like the idea you recently shared where maybe MP could have races which allow tuning and races which don't. Perhaps they would get to eventually where the tuning stuff is for the elite level racing and the rest of us mere mortals can have our normal MP racing. I bet the non-tune racing would get much more participation as I am certainly shying away from MP at the moment... sorry for the long comment.

They should start this car in a lower state of charge, half, third, quarter, or maybe even no charge would be interesting. If that makes it too slow, buff regen. Having around a lap of extra pace at the start might be interesting, but three laps is just busted.

That’s why you need to have very precise performance measurement. A one size fits all formula like forza will leave huge uncertainty in performance. Ideally, your performance rating changes based on the RACE ITSELF. So a 10 lap race at daytona with tire wear has different PP requirements than a 4 lap tsukuba race with no consumption for example

The issue with GT7 is that, unlike GTS, the meta car for this race basically cannot be defeated through skill in a fair and clean battle. you have to count on the peugeot driver driving absolutely terribly or visiting the shadow realm

You are right, but I remember in Forza Motorsport 4 there was a huge variety of cars in both A and S class which I raced. There were only a couple of "op" cars, like the Lotus elise and Exige, but there was some kind of a gentlemen's agreement to not use these cars. Only the bad drivers used them so it didn't matter. Forza 4 was one of the most balanced games I have ever played honestly.

There's definitely a lack of multiplayer content at the moment. I was very disappointed to find out that the Daily Races aren't actually daily, and at least for now not even weekly. It's a shame, this is the time when the content should be there if it's gonna be there. Before people get bored with the game.

At 9:55 its called a double pass. Usually it means the rear car over shot and had to brake longer effective loseing what they gained brakeing late. It's the sign of being desperate for position or a misjudgements.

The battery only discharges when the wheel is straight or close to, and you're accelerating. It does recharge when you lift (green up arrow rather than red down arrow) Simple strategy in the l500. Go hard first lap. Then simply lift before corners for the remainder of the race. 100m before braking zone after straights for example. And if you're well in the lead, just lift and coast anywhere you want. Battery will be saved for if/when you actually have someone come from behind to properly challenge you. Needless to say you need to be able to put together reasonable lap times in the first place to get, and then maintain your lead. To be clear - no other cars apart from other L500s should be of any threat to you after 2 laps. Pull a 5 second lead, and then let them get close as they want, you'll always re-take the lead on a straight assuming you've properly managed energy. All you need to do is maintain enough battery to stay in the lead, no more no less.

I am in awe of the driving skills you display in these videos. I will continue to use all the driver assists I can get in beginner mode. Currently there is a lot of bad feeling towards the online only restriction as the servers are down and the fact that the rewards for many races have been reduced. I don't recall such criticism of previous GT games?

Its a GT thing. In GT Sport its usually a Japanese tuned RX7 or likewise. Always 1 car ahead of the rest

I think the issue is this car is significantly better to the point where it's not even 'meta' it's just better, R32 is probably the actual meta car because it's slightly better than the rest, but not like this 😅

@@MyloSkeng Yeah. I'm alright with a 'meta' car, it's inevitable. The trick to it is having the meta car not be so overwhelmingly better than everything else. It should still require a minimum of skill to get pole position in it. If someone is faster in a slightly slower car performance wise, you would know that they are just better. In something like the Peugeot, there isn't really any competition.

I mean the R34 Vspec probably produces 320hp+ standard but the japanese rated all cars 276 because of the power wars. Also the L500 labelled as a 'road car' is hilarious

I was enjoying the variety as people were exploring different and favourite cars but now it’s morphed into how it was in GT Sport where everyone was using the Megane in Gr4 races and the 911 RSR is Gr3

Yes, this was power-to-weight meaning flat torque curves, low drag, and low centres of gravity are unchecked. Makes it interesting to see what concept wins overall in the end

@Super GT Try the ferrari 458 italia '09 It is the fastest and best handling car for me but I'm slow. I think YOU could get under 1:30 on race 2 daily with it.

They just need to nerf hybrids by raising the PP rating of identical cars like these based on their OVERALL HP to avoid exploits in the future either that or just remove hybrids from the said race. EZ Fix. Poor oversight by the game devs to not consider the "combined" HP of hybrids at 100% and just part of it.

It's a simple fix, make the races 6 laps, that way the hybrids will get brought back at the end once they have no power and it'll be close racing.

@@Czmlol No they don't. They handle terribly and you could see in the vid, after Steve ran out of batteries he was topping 139 mph, but in the Audi it was around 150. So yeah, I reckon it would work, worth a try.

So hybrid gives them more torque because of the electric motor and active aero helps with braking and even cornering )or at least it should if the physics are modeled right, no drag in the straights but pops up when needed in the corners)....yeah those things don´t get reflected in a race where you enter based only on horsepower and weight....they need to add some other car qualities to the ecuation or make it start at 50% hybrid power

If they dont fix balance issues between cars in the same race then i just dont see online being enjoyable at all. Would hate to start a race in a different car and just not be capable of overtaking or winning unless you have the “OP” car for that week.

I don't know how common knowledge this is but a good upgrade to put on your car is the "steering angle kit" that's in the extreme section of the tuning shop! It's supposed to be used for drifting what it actually does is just make the car easier to drive!

They should do a daily race with the L500 only and take it out of everything else. Seems asinine they would let this slide. I kind of like the idea of starting the hybrid out at 0% but that really only delays the inevitable imo. Would be worth a shot though I suppose!

To everyone saying they need to ban cars and drivetrains already, chill out. Power-to-weight classes are the simplest form of BOP and as a result leave a lot to be interpreted. A car with a low drag coefficient, awd and a hybrid power unit will be better as a package than a boxy fwd hot hatch. Until PP is used I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. Plus, power-to-weight classes can change easily so an existing meta could be obsolete, meaning sticking with the previous meta cars doesn’t guarantee success

K, let’s not overreact. This was a power-to-weight class, meaning aero efficiency, but most importantly torque curves, are not taken into account for eligibility. Until we see daily races with PP ratings we won’t know for sure if it’s gonna be unbalanced or not yet. My opinion is the PP rating MUST be simulated for the RACE DURATION of the daily race itself, not a static rating like the ones in forza. That way if the track chosen is a power track the PP rating required accounts for that. Or if tire wear and fuel consumption is included, the total race distance with average fuel saving and driving aggression is taken into consideration over the race distance

Yeah I am of the opinion that if the multiplayers are using this car , then make a race for a "HYBRID" - No point is using other cars against hybrids it's like a transgender man playing woman's football. The race should be fair.

I would love to see the return of all the old Special Stage routes - 5, 7, the Clubman and 11. El Capitan and Midfield get special mentions as well, always loved those two courses.
