Beautiful job. Mine is not quite as pretty, but I get a second kick start reliably, and I am very pleased with that.

You don't have to make that video for me.I watched it a bunch of times and finally saw you preload the spring by pulling it back with your finger. Thanks, I think I got it now, Jo

I’m almost done my diy restoration on my 1976xt500 and you have been most helpful I appreciate it a lot. I bought a new 6 volt battery I think I have it charged properly I put new ends on battery cables attached it them but still no power to lights or gauges can you maybe give some insight on my problem thanks

Tricky without seeing the bike but here's a few things I found with mine. - Rusty earth connections to frame. - Fuse holder, the one on the positive lead in the little pouch next to the battery box dirty spring clips (check fuse itself) - All the lights in my gauges were blown as mine had a defective regulator. - Maybe check the connectors behind the headlight for corrosion as well. Hope this helps.

Thanks about the speed thing but I just finished a 250 1974 enduro carb and the video was normal slow speed plus he talked and walked the viewers through it and it helped a lot and the 500 xt is more complicated
@davidgreen78709 ай бұрын
Carnt see anything as youve speeded up the most useful parts of the video ,thus making it pointless .

Too bad he doesn't talk through it. step by step

Hi. Can you do a video with a close-up on how to pre-load the throttle return spring, I can't figure out how on mine. Thanks much, Joe

Wondering if the 125-500’s all have the same carburetors just different sizes? Anyone?

great work! font of your subtitle-explanations is hard to read though...

Noted, have updated the method.

Wtf maybe you should go a bit slower and talk people through it that people can actually understand what you’re doing

Thanks so much for your reply and suggestions I’ll try that and let you know how it turns out

This me again with the 1976 Yamaha xt500 I took the petcock off my tank it was filthy dirty and cleaned out the carburetor bowl but when I start it now I have to choke it all the time and when I give throttle it still bogges. So now I don’t kn if there’s a easy fix or if I have to take it all apart again
@mostlymotorcycles.3 жыл бұрын
I'd say, pull the fuel line off the carby and let it run into a container from the tank for a while. Try it on reserve and normal. Check there is good continuous flow. If not, check the two strainers in the tap. One on the tap bottom other in the tank. Also check the tank breather. No air in no fuel out. If the flow from the tank is good. Then sorry to say there will be muck in the carby. Sounds like main jet if it will only run choked.

Took me a few looks to work it out, it was a few years ago. But I'm pretty sure it's the old throttle pump piston.

Hi, my xt 500 carb wont turn . It has some type of white rust holding it tight. I have tried putting it in petrol for a day , boiling water and Q20( rust removal spray) . What can I do?

Thanks a lot for replying it ran perfect before for an hour and then suddenly just started to bogg when given throttle so I cleaned out petcock and carb bowl and I thought I had it because petcock was full of dirt put it together and it still Boggs frustrating it is

How many turns on the adjustment screws on the carb ?
@mostlymotorcycles.3 жыл бұрын
Approximately 2 1/2 turns out, from fully in. Only effects idle mixture. Doesn't have any effect over about 1/4 throttle.
@anthonynunes72822 жыл бұрын
How did you get the carburetor to look brand new like that
@mostlymotorcycles.2 жыл бұрын
Glass beed blasting. Low pressure for a smooth finish.

Hi it’s me again asking for your help I got my restoration done my xt500 is on the road it was running great till yesterday it sounded like it was starving for fuel so I put a new fuel filter on it it run great for 5 minutes or so now it’s doing the same down the road at slow speed not too bad put sputtering I give it throttle bogs out so I choked it a little and it goes and then bogs again is it something inside the carburetor I dont know what it is I appreciate some help thanks
@mostlymotorcycles.3 жыл бұрын
Did you check the filter in the fuel tap? Bottom of the tap screws off to reveal a fine filter screen. It's the part of the tap the hose pushes onto. Otherwise drain the bowl check for contamination.
@jimbuchanan86403 жыл бұрын
I wish I had your experience at cleaning the carburetor and rebuilding it
@jimbuchanan86403 жыл бұрын
I don’t think my old girl has that kind of tap is there some how I can send you a picture of it ? Is it the two screws by the shut off toggle for reserve and off and on sorry for all the trouble
@mostlymotorcycles.3 жыл бұрын
Check out this link to image, tap should be similar. Filter is under the fuel outlet bottom right. Hex will screw out of the body. images.app.goo.gl/FRHjMvnZJJ3VHw81A

How do you slow your video down from being in high speed?
@mostlymotorcycles.3 жыл бұрын
If watching using an Android device tap the three dots top right corner KZbin player and select play back speed for slowing down parts of interest. On PC it's the little cogwheel bottom right, does same thing. It's always a compromise between being an excessively long video while also trying to be entertaining.
@jimbuchanan86403 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks I slowed it down I have a iPhone but I have a 76 xt500 carb and just don’t want to screw it up just wish you could have talked and explain more but I know you can’t please everyone. I also cleaned a 74 250 enduro but they talked me through it and it wasn’t so complicated but thanks anyway

Thanks a lot for your reply I’ll try that my tank is full so will I have to train the tank first before checking the tap filter?
@mostlymotorcycles.3 жыл бұрын
Nope it's on the outlet side of the tap :)

Hi Don, what did you use for cleaning the carburettor that makes is look like out of the factory?
@mostlymotorcycles.2 жыл бұрын
Fine glass beed sand blast. If u do it, block every orifice. The dust is a bugger to get out of the threads.

The carb on my 79 SR500 had been giving me problems, Had started (pinking or pinging) at anything above 2\3 throttle when giving it some stick. I rebuilt it after cleaning it in my ultrasonic cleaner, raised needle to top & upped main jet by 2 sizes. Not much better, Checked timing, (spot on) Anyway, yesterday I fitted a New VM36 & made up a new throttle cable, Totally different machine now, runs brilliant. Weird things carb problems. I also have a 1978 XT500, never had any problems . Both great machines. Great video by the way.

Is that a 36mm?
@mostlymotorcycles.4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, don't know. It will be what ever the original specs were for a 78 XT500.
@fliguy414 жыл бұрын
I tried rebuilding my original MIC and i couldn't find a seal or gasket kit for it anywhere so i just ordered a 36mm pump pumper for my 80 xt500
