Protected cells are not the way to go. I had my share of these the batteries are hard to get and expensive. I went to AA rechargeable and simple high/low aluminum bodied flashlight. Much more dependable and and easy to use. Lights that use proprietary batteries are a wreck waiting to happen.

Fortunately I don't think this one is proprietary, just a XTAR company branded 21700. For some reason with the 21700 size several are going proprietary (Olight, Thrunite, Nitecore).
