Bought this charger a few weeks back but didn't understand how the discharge mode worked, this was really helpful! And as a nice bonus I also discovered the powerbank mode you mention, had no I idea it had that feature. Nice to have so you can charge your phone if you get a power outage! Thanks a lot! :D

Hey thanks for reviewing this. It's very confusing all these modes when you don't have the manual... Like me I threw it our and had to press random buttons to try and put the charger back to charging mode lol. Your video helped me out a lot. Thanks.

The probes can't be used for charging

Just to clear up the USB charging, if the batteries and device are drawing too much current it gives priority to the batteries. Once the batteries are charged it will automatically switch to the USB and finish charging that too. So your observation was correct, but that is what was happening. Best idea is to just use 0.5amps for the batteries, it will leave enough current for the USB and is better for most batteries anyway.

If you use a 12V/3A power supply it's power gonna be enough for charging in all 4 slots at max current and for giving out 2A on USB output. So there's no need to take down the charging current.

Of course it can if your battery fits into the slot.

@@ThunderheartReviews I think the slots are a bit too short for protected 21700 but it will charge them just running wires to the correct terminals.

Not satisfied with it so far. Even if I ignore the fact that it have many features for a Xtar, it still lacks of features, especially for the price. While some old chargers from Xtar were known for the low temperatures of the charged cells, in this charger some NiMH-cells getting to hot and I saw user-ratings at Amazon that it will cook the cells. This is sh.... in general, but it´s harder to understand than small AA-cells getting so hot in this big charger. And, to mention it, the Dragon charges much slower than I would expect for the current setting; and I know it charges NiMH in the first 10 minutes with a very low current. Conclusion: For it´s price it´s not a good charger, not with the charging capability and not with the features.
