Thanks! XTC is in my top 5 of bands and yes it’s sad that the touring stopped. It’s hard to get the recognition you deserve with only albums. Very few (Steely Dan comes to mind) bands can pull that off. Colin is probably the best bassist to come out of GB. Goodness he fills up holes and solos like a star. I can’t say enough about his talent. You all know the rest. Thanks XTC. Always.

If you've seen a few Rockpalast videos, you'll know exactly why he called the audience "smiley Germans". The kids who went to Rockpalast were like these dour, emotionless zombies. They hear some of the greatest music ever, and just give the band the thousand yard stare. Check out Wire live at Rockpalast to see what I mean.

Simply Great!!! In the recording session of this song, Andy was not capable to play the guitar and sing at the same time. But here he looks so happy. In the last week I have been playing all my XTC albums (yeah, vinyl, CDs and MP3) and I am in love again with this great band. Greetings!!

I'm curious, do most people in Britain know XTC? Are they remembered for what an amazing band ther were/are? I'm a Yank and it will always bother me that they didn't become much much bigger in America. Obviously, refusing to continue touring didn't help their success but good God, what a truly great fucking band! I doubt Andy really even cares but they should have been huge!

This was probably THE song that told me Andy Partridge could mix "pop" and more esoteric material together to make it work. But the ignorant generic masses still ignored. :-(

Andy cut quite a figure in his day as the front man but I wonder if the longevity of the xtc may have sustained had they had a singer? He's often quoted as saying it wasn't his choice to be out front. Maybe his mentally health may have endured if he could have slipped into the background onstage? Still one of the most awesome bands this country has ever produced. Hats off to Andy, Dave, Terry and Colin. ❤

The three best XTC records, hands down are: Black Sea, English Settlement and The Big Express. My cave songs off of all three are: BS Respectable Street, ES Yacht Dance and TBE Sea Gulls Screaming Kiss Her, Kiss Her and I Bought Myself A Liarbird heck let cop to it, every song on all three records is gold!!! NOTE: English Settlement would be the import.

@chimptor50 Replace Big Express with Skylarking and we're on the same page. I only like about 4 songs from Big Express: All Of You Pretty Girls, Shake You Donkey Up, Seagulls, and Lyrebird. Skylarking, on the other hand, is pretty much flawless from start to finish, save for "Dying", which I never really dug.

"Pop" Is derived from the word "Popular" And "Pop Music" Is supposed to be designed to sell, Look it up - It's on Wikipedia, Even. That page is quoted as saying, "So-called "pure pop" music, such as power pop, features all these elements, using electric guitars, drums and bass for instrumentation;[1] in the case of such music, the main goal is usually that of being pleasurable to listen to, rather than having much artistic depth."
