Heard this song years ago on "Me, Myself & Irene". Don't know why it got permanently stuck in my memory warehouse, but it makes me happy whenever i hear it. It reminds me of how things were before the towers fell...before we lost our trust & faith in one another. We weren't perfect, but things didn't seem so bleak either. I miss those days.

I agree. There's no pleasing everyone, but from what I've noticed, the % down is usually at 2-3% for many of the music clips I've seen. It IS up to 2% now, but I think of it as the YT-equivalent of Metacritic's "generally well-received". I LOVE the acoustic strumming in this!

Interesting all the comparisons to McCartney. If Paul had written and recorded this song, it would have been his first hit in decades. The Beatles were still together when I was a kid. The first 45 I ever owned was ‘Hey Jude,’ in 1968. And I was a 10 year old seasoned vet by then. You couldn’t turn on the radio in say, 1966-67 and not hear The Fab Four. I was lucky. But since say, 1989, I’ve not once popped a Beatles album/CD/tape into the stereo at home or in the car. XTC? That’s a different story. Thank you Andy, Colin and Co. You’ve definitely become my adult Beatles. A feast for my ears. You deserve much more praise than you’ve received. Perhaps it’s better that way. XTC/Dukes songwriting speaks for itself. . Again, I was lucky. 👏🏻🎸
