GREAT DAY
Asked to write a song for a female singer, in the style of Paul McCartney. I came up with this. At the time I had no idea that Macca had in fact already written a song called "Great Day", and do you know, I've still never heard it? Built for a female singer, it's a bit too high a key for me. Pass me those G clamps.

I absolutely do not understand why XTC and Andy Partridge are not household names in the world of popular music. I've been a huge fan since I was a teenager and am still enthralled as an old git! It's heart breaking to know that so many of the younger generations are being denied the the joys of such sublime, intelligent, moving and wonderful music. Shame on the world!

I agree. Could the media and banks also have to do with it? Perhaps the reason is in the lyrics of The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead: "He made too many enemies...Of the people who would keep us on our knees."

Andy and Colin both still have it, Great Day and The Hardest Battle are both superb songs. I have no doubt if they reunited they would be as good as ever. Come on lads!

The Ray Davies of his generation. Even since XTC (which was one of my favourite groups at the time and still is) I've always maintained that Andy Partridge was easily one of the best songwriters of the 80's, along people like Mark Hollis or Robert Smith. I like, thought, that he's now only known and loved by very few, it's a hidden treasure. 😊 Mr Partridge, my respect. 🤗 Signed: a regular customer and support of Burningshed. 👍

Great song and one that absolutely and exactly fulfills the mission Andy was given. We all know what a genius Andy is, but imagine having the talent to summon up from the ethers a song that is both a perfect Paul type of song and one designed for the female range. Incredible. I miss the days when I could actually talk to Andy on Twitter. Long time ago now, and as I understand it he (as I have) has long since quit Twitter, but for a good long while there I would regularly talk to him and he would talk back, and was charming, witty and fun as you would imagine.
