Bought a 2015 Xterra a few months back and for the money and reliability they are top notch! I did look at 4Runners but their resale value (cost?) was too much for my desire. Very happy with the Xterra and it feels really solid anywhere I go. Great video guys! We live on the Kitsap Peninsula and ours gets plenty of driving time, thanks again for the video!

I've had a 2000 MT Toyota Tacoma, a 2006 MT Toyota FJ Cruise (my 2000 Tacoma got totaled in a 100 year flood outside my house, so I was forced to buy the 1st year FJ Cruiser), and a 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X. I test drove a 2011 Toyota 4Runner w/ the highest off-road package (is there any other trim level to buy?). I wasn't even considering a Nissan Xterra, but test drove a Pro-4X to cover all my bases. I was also considering an AT FJ Cruiser. I was blown away by the Xterra Pro-4X. The handling was better, it was quieter, it was more comfortable, it was stronger, etc. I have a master's in ME, so frame strength is a big deal to me. They're all good vehicles. It's a trade-off. Toyotas definitely have better resale value. I learned this 1st hand when my Tacoma got totaled, as it was completely submerged in shit water. All Toyota body-on-frane vehicles have better resale value. As for off-road performance, the Xterra Pro-4X was hands down a better vehicle. It's not even close. However, you have to consider aftermarket support if you like to mod your vehicle for off-roading. Toyota has a lot of support. 2nd Gen Nissan Xterras and Frontiers (same basic vehicle), not as much. You're going to pay a lot more for off-road mods, for a vehicle with less resale value. At the end of the day, it's a toss up, depending on what's most important to you. When I was young, resale value was a huge factor. Now that I'm older, I want a more capable vehicle.

Just watched this. What an epic day. Kudos tot he filming and the guy driving the the RedX

That looked fun, I miss my Jeep wheeling days. Maybe one day I'll mod my Xterra. PS: the Yota guy is using too much brake everywhere, just let the engine and low gears do the work when coming down slimy hills. Also in mud holes keep that foot on the accelerator until the car is not moving forward at all, the Xterra was close to getting stuck, but flooring it helped getting through that pit.

Those mud bogs would swallow any vehicle...so I'm not even slightly surprised one of them got stuck ! That's some slop right there.

Great vid! Looks like the Xterra went left, keeping the left side tires fairly high and dry. The 4 runner chose a right line which swamped all tires.
@rcruzriovista2 жыл бұрын
Yes I figured I try the hard line but it was too much. Plus my rig was too heavy in the front without a rear bumper. It’s a heavy V8, plus a heavy duty front bumper with a winch. This goes to show that weight distribution matters. I was ready for a recovery with a second winch. It worked out great. I should have a heavy duty rear bumper ready in the near future.

The thing that turned ne off to 4Runners, is that they had essentially become luxury status symbols for yuppies. I live in the DC Netro area. We have more status oriented peopke than any other area in the country. I paid $27,500 for my 2011 Xterra Pro-4X w/ leather seats (nice leather BTW). The equivalent 4Runner was $43K+, without a leather option. This was the year of the Fukushima disaster, so Toyota couldn't put the best sound sytems in their 4Runners & FJs. The Xterra sound system is BOOMING from the factory. It's still a trade off. But, with the very small price I paid for the top level Xterra Pro-4X, resale value wasn't as big of a deal to me. Xterras have fully boxed, hiigh tensile strength Nissan Titan frames. Body-on-frame Toyotas all have the same weaker C-channel frames, which are weaker, and flex way too much. Are there things I like about the 4Runner and my FJ Cruiser over my Xterra ... definitely. My 2006 MT FJ Cruiser was full time 4WD w/ a locking center differential. The AT's were standard part time 4WD. I had to sell the FJ due to a lumbar spine injury that kept me from being able to work the clutch without terrible pain. I've never owned a vehicle that handled as well stock as that MT FJ Cruiser. Locking center differentials are a thing of the past now, unless you want to pay $600K for a stupid 10 wheel Mercedes. FJ Cruiser road noise and visibility left a lot to be desired. The Xterra is much better in that department. It will never rival the stock off-road handling of my MT FJ. But, neither the AT 4Runner or AT FJ Cruiser can match it either. They're all good vehicles, but the 4Runners are overpriced, and everyone knows it. I would have bought a Jeep 4 door Wrangler Rubicon in 2011, for real off-road performance. But, since I have a young daughter, I had to take into account crash test results.

Yes open difs, it’s a V8, but I don’t want to break stuff so I take it easy. It’s got plenty power to turn those 35s especially when 4L

Did you have a lift on the Xterra? I want to put 35 or 33s in my 2011 but don’t know if a lift is required to put them in
@SPOOKYTOFU Жыл бұрын
you can do 33s (285/75/16) on your '11 without any lift. 35s will take quite a bit of work.

Hi. Can you please tell me the size of the tires on your Xterra? And what diameter rims are you running?
@rcruzriovista2 жыл бұрын
285 70 R17 KM3 MT (33”ish) they look amazing in person. 2” suspension lift, with inner fender heat mod to avoid tire rubbing, just in case. Front locker, rear partial metal bumper, and most recently steel sliders (not shown in the video)
