These guys are the hometown heroes where I live in the Knoxville area, and I remember finding them in 2012 after I found Suicide Silence and from then on I was obsessed with with Chapel and anything they did. Then, finding out they were from the area I grew up just blew my mind, and ended up supporting everything they did! I have seen like 6 or 7 times now, and one of my best friends was at target in Knoxville seen Phil and he played some of Our Endless War early for him because he had time to kill! I genuinely don’t give a single fuck what anyone says about these guys they are legends, and make me damn proud to be where I’m from!!

I have always loved Whitechapel, they're definitely a nostalgic band to me now. Memories of hanging out with my goofy friends as a teenager and driving around listening to Whitechapel together flood my mind when I hear them. I actually ran into Phil on Diablo 3 in 2019, he invited my friends and I to a party in game and added us to his discord server, then proceeded to carry us through GR 110s for about 4 hours and it was one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. Who wouldn't be stoked to game with their favorite vocalist? 🤘

This Is Exile will always be the best deathcore album ever to me. Perfect balance of technicality, groove, caveman riffs and epic atmosphere. The Cleansing is really close but nothing matches the epic feel this is exile to me.
@justinbowen1183
@justinbowen1183 Жыл бұрын
The cleansing was recorded for free in a friend's garage so yah by default the sound quality by itself would be better and SS didn't have a producer to help them with it they pretty much had him JUST record it.
@terriblecertainity
@terriblecertainity Жыл бұрын
@@justinbowen1183 the production of the Cleansing, to me, is the best in all of Deathcore. You can hear that it was recorded live, all musicians in the room. it has an intensity that most Deathcore, especially nowadays, simply lacks imho
@justinbowen1183
@justinbowen1183 Жыл бұрын
@@terriblecertainity I myself also prefer to live record but not all projects work out with it. I feel that if you primarily want people to come see you oige that you should record it live in 1 take as is but that's just me. Sitting there in a studio and getting it to sound as good as it can I feel in a way kind of lies to people about your sound quality because your primary emphasis is your live shows so record it all live exactly how it would sound at your show. My old band we took a pretty decent pocket recorder and stacked up a bunch of milk crates and just played everything with it at eye level because that's how the audience is going to hear it. We played each song live but we recorded them 1 at a time
@terriblecertainity
@terriblecertainity Жыл бұрын
@@justinbowen1183 agree on that! I have no issue with recording seperately, double tracking etc. I do that myself. But there comes a point where you punch in too much, edit too much, and all humanity ( and to me) and emotional impact is lost. Distant's productions are my prime example of this. I doesn't even sound like humans anymore. Everything is on grit , you don't even get the slightest hints of fret noise or other imperfections. Which bores me.
@justinbowen1183

I super relate to this. I did the exact same thing, fell into stuff like The Faceless, found Protest the Hero and so many bands that I still listen to now. I'm actually seeing Protest next week for the first time. I saw Norma Jean a few times, but the best was the tour with the Chariot and Scogin came out to perform Memphis with them. I would sit for hours and just find new music to listen to on MySpace and show my friends. Such good memories from that time.@@CheapSushi

Phil bozeman is so damn great, he has multiple generations of people doing low gutterals. The beginning to the somatic defilement is the birth place to deathcore vocalists doing low gutterals. Such a great album. Let's be honest, we all tried to do the beginning gutteral to the somatic defilement LOL. This is exile is amazing too. The iconic "This world is ours" line still gives me goosebumps to this day. People in the deathcore community should be giving this man props for popularizing and shaping deathcore today vocal wise.

I don’t know, if someone already mentioned that, but a fun fact about their original guitar player Brandon - he got involved in tour managing/sound providing on tour, I believe mainly for Whitechapel, so he still got to go on tour and live that lifestyle and be around music every single day. Alex Wade talked about it on an interview they did some years back. So happy for him!

17:01 from an elder deathcore head lol. I loved/hated seeing Whitechapel or suicidesilence play with Canibal corpse or Aborted and any Death Metal bands. I absolutely loved them separately but the fans of each are drastically different. WC would take the stage and the younger ones like me would want to hardcore dance. and the Old ass gatekeepers that were there to see Aborted or Cannibal would start fights or throw people outta the pit. Even make fun blockades so you couldn’t have fun. You can totally see it in the 2008 live sections of your videos. Look at all the dudes dead still, arms crossed looking absolutely miserable. It was so frustrating until WC started headlining or Summer Slaughter tour would come through.

A couple of lines into the song "The Darkest Day of Man" he says "with the time and preparation" and it sounds like "with the Dr Pepper retard". You can't unhear it hahahaha. That was in 2010 and I've been listening ever since.

Whitechapel is my favorite deathcore band of all time, with Suicide Silence being just a hair behind them. It all comes down to Phil for me personally, Mitch without a doubt has the best highs in deathcore history. But Phil is just so well rounded, solid highs, great mids and in my opinion the best lows in the genre. I know we're talking about the MySpace era here, but I still have to mention that the dude can actually sing pretty damn good too. Being able to make cleans fit in so well on a deathcore album probably isn't the easiest thing in the world. Anyway... I love the videos my friend, I always look forward to seeing a new upload from you. 🤘
