In 2002, my mother, younger brother, and I saved up money in a large, oversized piggy bank to buy a PS2. We filled that thing to the brim with coins. We had about $80 saved, but my mom had secretly put a PS2 on layway for a couple months. We drove to Walmart, and a storm was rolling in as we rode on the highway. At the store, the associate brought us our console and I remember being so overjoyed. My older brother bought me Virtua Fighter 4, our first game on PS2...And then we went over to Blockbuster and rented Burnout for a week. To this day, I still have that copy of Virtua Fighter 4. I don't play it much, but it's very sentimental to me. And I recall that day very, very fondly. I never got to see my older brother as much as I wanted to. Even as an adult. He stepped out of my life when I was 19 years old. We briefly reconnected a couple years ago. Sadly, he passed away last year, early March. R.I.P Travis. I miss you every day bro. Thank you for the memories.

I have zero respect for any VF fan that feels 4 was a step in the right direction in terms of aesthetic but specially soundtrack. You've got to be kidding me!!! The music in 4 is super generic. It's still better than 5 though...which is depressing. VF3 was the last VF that really looked unique and cool. With 4, it all went downhill. Super solid game gameplay wise though. And has an amazing mode where you can improve your skills by playing endlessly.

For Christmas 2002, I got a PlayStation 2 and the first 2 games I borrowed from a friend who came from England had about 18 games, so it was Virtua Fighter 4 and Devil may cry. Virtua Fighter 4 was a great experience for the first time!!!

I was talking about Tekken and Skull Girls today and I had a flash of playing this game. I scoured Wikipedia and wracked my brain until I could remember the name. I definitely found what I was looking for; watching this is bringing back so many memories. I like how the stage stayed broken where you destroyed it, so the floor or the cage of certain arenas could fall away and you could push your opponent through it next round 😂

I think that this fighting game franchise has most realistic character designs(no over to top anime looks in characters) ever and fighting looks very realistic... No 3 m high juggling combos and super moves. Fighting mechanics feel realistic too. We need fighting games like this more! I have evolution version and I like it very much... Nice graphics, stages and great music. Great game over all. 🤩😎

I decided to go back and finally beat this game. Dear lord does the AI cheat a lot in the upper ranks of Kumite. The AI becomes unthrowable unless you catch them in a guaranteed throw. Every single up attack from ground is blocked.
