I was afraid of opening my xTool 10w, but when I watch this video, everything became clear. I put my machine together by watching this video; stopping and starting with each section. I have purchased the fume extractor and the power button. Now I am and ordering the the filter to use with my 3gal shop vac. I am so appreciative of your video. Your tutorial is beyond my expectations and the best video for putting thing together by far. Subscriber for life!

I was came to the comments looking for exactly this! I don’t understand what they were thinking when they decided to put the connectors there. Who can even fit their fingers in that space to connect those 3! Especially the white one took me forever. Had to use the screw driver and hope I didn’t mess anything up. Literally almost quit the entire assembly because of those cables.

There were things i did not realize about cables etc.that were not explained in the drawings, and I learned a lot from this video. Thank You for putting this together. I am new to the Xtool community having just bought the Xtool D1 Pro 20W and I am in the process of setting it all up. I do like your explanation and demonstration of how to manage the cords with the better placement vs Xtools utilization. As far as the fume extractor I really like the concept but there is no explanation as to what you are connecting the CPAP hose to and how that works. I think better explanation of that would be helpful! This makes individuals do further research when it could have been done with one person being 100% concise with all the modifications being done. Otherwise a very good video with great information to help make production better for everyone. I will definitely be watching more of your video's.

Thanks for the comment! Yes I am sort of kicking myself in hind sight that I wasn't more clear about that in this video. However, for your reference here are two videos that explain the other end of the CPAP hose: Filter system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWjUhXhqqZmmnJo Filter system with an enclosure: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKamoJ9jjdtmqKs Similar system on the Creality Falcon 2 with the vacuum system explained: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXTFppufesefpNE

Before I got a honeycomb bed for my laser, I used a silicone dish drying mat. These mats have raised ribs, so they give you an air gap underneath your work piece. I don't know if you can find one big enough to cover the work area of a D1, but most jobs are smaller than that. I love the idea of your fume extractor!

As totally careful as I was to follow every single instruction they gave to the letter, I missed that connector at 6:56. I hadn't fired up the machine yet because I'm waiting for a couple more incidentals and while I do, I saw this video! When I watched this I went back and redid everything and I'm still working on it now going through second by second of this video. My belts weren't tightened properly, I just randomly attached the gantry somewhere in the middle instead of bottoming out at the back. THEN tightening the connector bolt screws. I felt like the instructions might have assumed end user knowledge being much greater than mine is. But this connector tucked in at 6:56 would have had me shipping the machine back 😭. Onward with new knowledge!!! Appreciate you!

Excellent video! Great tips on cable management, gantry and stepper motor shaft alignment. xTool needs to either have that little tab cut off the circuit board which prevents it from aligning with the other side or revise their assembly instructions the way you did it. Also love the flame extractor. Will be purchasing one tof those from you for sure. Much more elegant solution than one of the rinky dink enclosures... Thanks for all your thought and work on this video. Best xTool D1 Pro video I've seen so far.

Great information and well presented! The only things I'd add are: - when you and initially putting together the pieces, insert the screws and tighten them only until they just more that touch. When all the fasteners for a part are in then go back and tighten them in a couple of rounds. Tightening them at the start could cause mis-alignment. - do the zap tie around the x stepper first then secure the cables under the side frame but be sure to have the x axis all the way to the back and secure cables starting at the back and work towards the front.

you mention using a protective mat under your project, Xtool has their iron honeycomb workspace, as for your burning on the back of the piece and having more crisp front, the air assist should help with that
@EmbraceMaking
@EmbraceMaking 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! In a future video I have a lower cost solution to the honeycomb work space for people on a little more of a budget. The silicone mat underneath is a good pairing with this solution I will be releasing soon. Air assist definitely helps with the top surface and having air space under the part prevents all of the burning on the bottom side.

This video may just have saved my sanity !!! I assembled my D1 Pro last night, and only got a chance to test it out today, I loaded an image into XCS to attempt to test run the machine, it wouldnt move after clicking on 'FRAME' , I chose to bypass that and attempt to engrave anyway, the module would only move along the X axis and would then constantly give me limit alarms.... I think this video has solved my problem, I completley missed that small black cable that plugs into the limiter for the X & Y axis... I dont recall seeing that in the assembly manual for some reason....

How often would the filter need to be replaced... can it be cleaned... with a blower, smoke and debris just goes out the window. But I like the idea of your fume extractor, more or less self contained. The area where I will install a xTool D1 Pro would require a fairly long hose, cutting down on the effective cfm. With a rolling cart and the vac installed within the cart, I suspect your fume extractor may be the way to go, depending on the cost of and how often the replacement, etc... of the filter would be. The shop also has a ceiling mount air filter... I know a Blower would rid all smoke.... and hope the fume extractor set would also. Thanks.

hello and thanks so much for this video it helped me set up my xtool d1 pro. Now im at the phase of experimenting materials but I have questions for you before I begin: 1.Do I need both an air assist and your fume extractor? Do they do the same thing? 2. Do you suggest the metal plate or a honeycomb Laser Bed to go on top of silicon mat but under material? 3. Should the laser slide all the way to the mat or be adjusted where when it slides in, the back metal piece of laser underneath plug is even with the bracket its attaching to? Ultimately resulting in laser being approximately a quarter inch from the mat?

better of the informative videos on assembly of xtool d1 pro.. subscribed.. had similar realizations with gantry wires issues.. ill have to readjust carriages alignment as presented as i've noticed deviations in coordinates while moving laser head to 100x100 mm for origin.. seems 0x0 absolute origin keeps moving a mm off every return.. reason "free framing" works w/o precise positioning.. the fume extractor is brilliant! commend the ingenuity.. do recommend using air assist for wood cuts as it improves vastly cleaner kerfs from charring.. multiple passes at faster speeds vs few at slower rate works well with 5mm plywood for me.. excellent altogether.. thanks for sharing insight...

First, I'd like to thank you for putting together such a thorough and descriptive video. I have a question regarding the fume extractor that you designed for the 10W machine...we purchased the Air Assist tool with our new machine. Would we also need a fume extractor, or will the Air Assist serve the same purpose that the fume extractor served in this video? Thank you for any insight, we are new to the xTool community.
@EmbraceMaking
@EmbraceMaking Жыл бұрын
You're welcome! The air assist will blow the fumes and smoke outwards. It is designed to clear the space around the laser beam so it doesn't get diffused through the smoke and thereby increases the laser efficiency (or at least makes it stable). However the smoke will still get blown out everywhere into your room. The fume extractor is designed to try and pick up some of that smoke and then get it filtered or get it out of your room so it doesn't accumulate. With just the fume extractor is sort of has the same effect as the air assist - it will draw away some of the smoke from the laser path... however it's not its primary function. The primary function is to minimize smoke accumulation in your room. Whereas the air assist is generally aimed right in the laser path and doesn't do anything for smoke accumulation in your room. So each have their own primary function that is different from one another. If you use both together... it kind of depends on how strong your air assist is. It could blow some of the smoke and fumes outside of the reach of the fume extractor and that is just the reality of having one thing blowing while another is sucking all while the laser module is moving around everywhere.

Hi! I have a 100W CO2 laser cutting machine that suits my needs very well. What I basically need to know is two pieces of information that I haven't found in any demo yet. Diode laser operational lifetime. How many hours do I work? The second question is: in a single pass do I actually cut how many mm of wood and at what power x time?. My problem with CO2 is that it takes up a lot of space and is also very heavy. This causes me trouble. Thanks.

The Xtool website says the laser head should last 10,000 hours... support.xtool.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405624562199-Pre-sales-knowledge-for-xTool-D1 In terms of settings for the wood I think it depends on a few factors like the color and density. In this video I was using basswood which doesn't seem very dense but it is light colored so I imagine it won't absorb the laser as good as something darker. I used the Creative Space preset which was 100% power @ 3mm/s speed. I was able to increase that to 4mm/s and it still cut fine. I experimented at 5mm/s and there were areas it didn't go all of the way through. I see ads online for this machine saying it will cut through 10mm wood but it does not specify if that is a single pass or what kind of wood.... realistically I think it would do 6mm thick in one pass at a very slow setting. I have a K40 here and I also find it heavy and cumbersome, plus the closed frame limits what I can put inside. The nice thing about these light, open frame lasers is that you can put the entire machine on top of a big workpiece if you had to. Will it replace the power and grunt of your 100W? Certainly not. The speed will be slower too, but it does have its advantages. Different tool for different jobs I guess.

This is a really insightful and well thought out video. I have a question. I was having a hard time finding a work table for this laser and honestly I didn't want to take the time to make one. I have a Costco 34-in by 34-in card table. Should I get a piece of 26x26 in wood to place underneath the laser or should I just flash the table with aluminum? I use to laser engrave back in the day before it was cool and the machine that I used had a metal bed.

Can we get a more detailed or close-up view of how effective the extractor is? Also, I noticed that this mod only goes up to the 20w: 40w coming soon? I'd love to get this as it would save time and money on building or buying an enclosure. Definitely getting that rotary mod, though!

Great Video! The manufacturer website mentions capabilities of offline processing/operating mode but no where does it say how to do this. Is it possible to load the job to the laser, disconnect from the computer and engrave offline? To run the same job multiple times without being connected to WiFi or USB connection.
@EmbraceMaking

Good question! I haven't tried it... but... I bet if you disconnect from the computer and just press the button at the front I believe it will automatically start the last job. Give that a try!

@@EmbraceMaking I tried it out and nothing happens. After disconnecting, the machine will not process the last job. It will give a pop up warning if machine is disconnected before pressing the start button on the machine as well. Using XCS and D1 pro 10w on PC.

What kinds of jobs are you looking to process? I believe you can slap files on the SD card and just press the button on the front and it may run the newest file on the card... I'd have to look into it. I recently did a video on the ORTUR laser master 3... check that one out. Although it's not a video showing how to use the machine, you will see in the video that the performance is comparable to the XTOOL as it is also 10W.... and with that one you can actually run the machine off an app on your phone. Again, I don't show that in my video but apparently its pretty easy to do

@@EmbraceMaking First, I appreciate your video. It really helped out, especially with the cable management. I see several places mine likes to snag. Just put my D1 Pro 20W with extension kit together yesterday, and spent several hours getting the hang of it. Looked around for SD/TF card utilization, but saw nothing. I moved my bulky desktop setup into my workshop just to get everything going. First project is 10" X 8" cope and drag boxes for sand casting. Designed the finger joints and am impressed with how well it cuts. Just have to fine tune the finger sizes for the kerf.

@EmbraceMaking
@EmbraceMaking Жыл бұрын
Somewhere in the video I believe I put a link that pops up in the top right hand corner of the screen, but here is my other video showing the filtration system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWjUhXhqqZmmnJo My nozzle is geared more towards people who don't have room for the enclosure or are doing light work with their laser. I would recommend a full enclosure and professional filtration system for anyone running their laser for long periods of time or working with really nasty materials. The nozzle works great but realistically some smoke and fumes will still escape as it is impossible for it to get absolutely everything. An enclosure (in theory) captures everything since there is nowhere else for the fumes to go.

The vacuum extractor looks fairly high up from the bottom of the laser. How well does it work?
@EmbraceMaking
@EmbraceMaking 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Laszlo, when developing this I tried multiple versions with the nozzle high and very low. When the nozzle is very low the vacuum strength is very powerful and can disturb light materials, or small workpieces. It actually starts to vacuum them off the table! So I kept iterating designs until there was no risk of moving small or thin parts but still close enough that the vacuum strength is powerful enough to draw in the fumes. So it is at a height that is a good balance for all general purpose. However, if you are the type of person who is not processing lighter materials, reach out to me on my website through the contact form and I can make you a custom length nozzle that is lower! Thanks!
