A little tip for you--with strange ( especially emissions / misfire ) faults with no fault codes, go straight into generic OBD, then scroll to mode 6. This will give lots of useful information. It's dug me out of a hole more than once, especially when someone has previously deleted codes. PS. As an ex Land Rover mechanic I enjoy drifting through your videos, but sometimes find myself shouting at the screen!

That's for power adapter to power up the eeprom device but you need to buy them separately

The plug on the the cable is for the add on attachment that allows you to program ECUs and key fobs that can’t be programmed thru the ignition. I had a olde X100 that came with the KC100 attachment, now you have to buy it.

The extra round connector is probably for early obd1 adaptors that plug into the 7 pin serial cable. 12 volts can be plugged into it, used when there isn't a 12 volt source at the obd1 port on older obd1 cars. Also, the tablet has speakers so you can watch Mike's KZbin videos about Land Rovers and hear his funny commentary 🤣👍🇦🇺

Good review mike, I’ve just bought the topdon BT 800, £240 off eBay, wireless dongle and does lot more than the 600, will be similar to the Xtool D7 👍🏻

I have the bt800 and today ordered the stool, so watching this video for tips. The topdon has no bi directional controls, and is very temperamental with auto vin scan, lots of new cars I've used it on the vin brings up a 1991 Eagle. Never heard of a car called an eagle.

I heard that VGA cable can be used to extend the XTool cable. I suspect the other end can be changed for ODB 1 options. That I think they have for the more expensive D8 or D9.

I drive an isuzu 4x4 wirh 4jj1 engine. If i have to get a scanner/thing it must be able to scan codes, bleed the abs unit and program the injectors. Well actually enter the injector codes into the ecu. In south africa such a unit will cost about R20 000.00, the average mechanics monthly salary!

The Xtool looks very similar to the Autel MS808BT and is a similar price in the UK and appears to have similar functionality. The Xtool uses a slightly newer version of Android although its hardly up to date, we are on Android 12 now!

Hi Mike, (regarding what you said about coding keys), we had an issue with getting a new key remote coded into one of our puma landrovers, (the fob with the chrome strip down the side which I think is the type Paul has on his landrover), I thought I'd buy the fob (£140.00 phew) and get a local company to code it in for us, after 3 different people came and looked at it and scratched their heads they couldn't do it, so I took it to my go to chap and he spent a good hour or more on it and couldn't code it in to the vehicle, he contacted the help line for advice and they said that these type of keys are not codeable and need to go to Land Rover, something to do with being linked to Land Rover servers to unlock the vehicle module to allow the fob to be coded in... anyway Land Rover charged us £350.00! to code it in.. Moral here is don't lose your spare key and don't chuck them about and damage them or it'll cost you dearly.. As a side note the service bloke at Land Rover said that new vehicles only come with one key/fob and you have to wait for a spare to be supplied to you because of the microchip shortage..

Question is, does it understand the older vehicles like the disco 2? I can't afford a nanocom, so got an icar-soft something or other as it reads and resets the abs module for me, but while it works, frankly it's a bit crap to use. I understand many modern readers don't work with the disco 2..

I’d reckon it would but I think a specific unit eg black box solutions Nanocom is much better. I’ve got one for my D2 td5 and it will do absolutely everything you’d need for it.

It will be interesting to see the bi dir mode , reprogramming an injector or clean the DPF ? Update every 3 year, Yes but will these china companies be around in 3 5 7 years ? I still find the price expensive for what you get , a Kilo for the x9 😞. I am hoping someone will developed an free software tool we all can enjoy . Actually today cars with a glorified infotainment system , should be including at diagnostic tool for bush repairs. The Yaris would probably be a better training vehicle than the defender. When building today's tool-base , it is more important with a god scan tool than a socket set- BTW the build in Mic! Are you going to talk to the car? OpenVehicleDiag , seemes to be going the way,

Black case = updated D7. The 2023 variant has 2gigs of system memory (double over older variant), Android 10 (upgraded from 5.1.1), and a slightly faster quad core cpu clocked @ 1.6ghz (older one was 1.5ghz). Just picked one up off Amazon on a lightning deal for $342 U.S. dollars.
