I don’t post about my own stuff on KZbin but will probably be changing that. I do have some pottery my family makes here. I’ve made knives, axes, pottery, wood work and I carve on just about every medium imaginable. Xtool makes a lot of really cool stuff. In all honesty they have several machines that would be a huge help to me from the D1 Pro and M1 to the P2 and of course the F1 machine here. Each one brings a different strength and/ability. I’ve really been wanting the F1! As a photographer there are so many possibilities as to how I can improve my business in a more creative way! Some of the things I’d like to experiment with are engraving portraits on glass, wood and acrylic! I’d also like to engrave picture frames too! What a cool tool! I make custom, handmade pens out of a variety of material (wood, metal, deer antler, resin) and would use the laser to add custom graphics or lettering to my pens. What an amazing opportunity! 😊 I am a current serving member and veteran of 15 years. About two years ago I started laser engraving as a hobby as a therapeutic outlet and means to express my creativity. While I was working up at Fort Meade, Maryland, I noticed there was a high turnover of military members in both mine and adjacent units. Manning was down and operational tempo was high, so a lot of good people burnt out with many discharging. I noted that many of these members had generally all completed anywhere between 10 - 20 years of service, and was somewhat saddened to see lack of mechanism or formal line of funding to enable the purchase of farewell gifts to recognize sacrifices made on behalf of unit or time in service. Although I carry many service related injuries, I feel blessed to be alive and have my family, and as such, I felt that I should give back to my military brethren and community. So, I took it upon myself to dedicate my hobby to providing free engraving and gift creation for all ranks that needed help. I even purchased and prepared the majority of items presented by my unit, all at own expense. Towards the end of my two-year tour, I had generated just over 120 gifts in my spare time, balancing out commitments with family and faith. Not only did this help me to relax, but gave me an exponential feeling of reward when I saw each of the members receive a gift that was tailored to their time in service. Most people didn’t know that I had organized their gift, but I didn’t mind. I have now recently switched focused to a project where I can help vulnerable people within our community. My mother works as a Carer in the Dementia ward of an age care home. She has described the hardship that these member with Dementia go through, with lack of memory or recognition and roller coaster of emotions that members, family and Carers go through. As such I am in the process of designing bracelets to help Dementia patients and family. I am currently planning the design of a identification and medical bracelet of which contained details can be used to help identify the patient in case they are ever lost, provide details of medical condition or medication, provide details for family points of contact, and also include a miniature family photo engraving to be used as a point of reference during family recognition process. I am also considering inclusion of a barcode that third parties can scan with camera on smart device to bring up the patient’s profile and relevant information that either they or family wish to share in emergency situations. I would want to generate a matching bracelet for family, so that the family member/s can show the similar band during recognition process. I would seek for this to be a free service and would later consider seeking further support through not-for-profit organizations and/or church to sponsor delivery of service at a larger scale. I have watched many reviews of the xTool F1 Engraver and assess that it is the best and most economical option on the market to support this project. The level of detail that the laser provides will allow a high level of detail for engraved information and imagery, and when match with it’s speed, would allow fast batch processing and therefore enable faster generation and delivery of bracelets to those in need within the community. Once I have proven this model, I will then seek to provide similar option in necklace, as well as similar service to members of our homeless community that are subject to mental disabilities or issues. Service life has taught me to go big or go home. I want to go big on behalf of others and would greatly appreciate consideration of this engraver to help with my cause. Wow. What an amazing product. I work on the ambulances 🚑 this thing is so small and mobile that I could engrave beautiful personalised gold star badges for all of my patients who have been brave. My daughter is engaged to be married in the next few months. She's my only daughter and I want to make that day special for her. There is multiple things I plan to engage for her recital dinner, and gifts for her maids of honor. I also plan to engrave several mirrors her and her maids of honor will use getting ready for the wedding.

I have found the safety glass built into the F1 to be sufficient. If you are feeling that you need more protection I would advise purchasing extra safety goggles rated for lasers.

Is it marking metal or actually engraving?

From my experience it is just scoring the metal which would be marking. Even so it looks nice once you get the settings right. I have marked a few knives that I have made and they turned out very nice.

As a Vietnam veteran, I believe in honoring other veterans. I am working on a project that honors both my sons who are Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans. My oldest son Matthew, is a US Army special operation veteran with multiple combat deployments to those theaters of war. My younger son Bill is a retired US Air Force Master Sargent. He served in both Afghanistan and Iraq and the middle east. Both of these wonderful young men are highly decorated for their service. I am currently building displays for all their service awards and medals that can be proudly displayed in their homes. I think that using the laser would help me make these displays truly special with appropriate, creative and unique Army and Air Force artwork to go alongside their awards. I am so proud of both my sons and am honored to use my skills to leave them, and our decendants something to remember their service, sacrifices, and heroism.

Can this be used on large flat surface like a dresser or table?

Without the slide extension in place, there is a base plate that comes out and allows you to place an engraving of 4"x4" onto any surface. You can also hold it on its side to place your design on something standing up.

Drink identifiers maybe silicon bands so you can identify your own water bottle and stop the wasting of bottled water. When your done it could go on your wrist or if it’s a smaller bottle neck one a finger or a key chain.

I want to eventually get a F1 it would be a great time saver, i just wish xtool would have better support/payment options for those of us outside the USA (Canada). My D1 Pro has been great thus far. Creating keychains, bookmarks and coasters would be fast with the F1 and is what i would do
