the cvt is good. the problem is that the manual says "replace fluid every 30,000 miles" but when you take it to nissan they never mention it or tell you its part of the maintenance, hence why it fails at 80k. I have my altima and did my own cvt fluid change at 50k and my car went back to driving like new; all transmission fluids go bad

just got my altima 13 back from our local dealer in Kuwait, the CVT transmission failed just two weeks after the warranty had expired 🤬(5 years, 90k kilometers). They offered to charge me about 5000$ (almost 60% of the total cost they say given my perfect service record 😬). Luckily, I reported a problem in the transmission 10 days before warranty which was not fixed properly obviously. This helped me try to push for a full warranty repair and finally got my transmission fully replaced. I must say the car has been very kind except for infrequent gearbox problems that I hope are fixed by now..

You cannot beat on these CVT transmissions. I wouldn't go over 4K rpm and change the Transmission fluid every 40-50K and you might get to 200K Miles. Its not a question of if but when it will fail.

Maybe a different transmission system can use manual gear and 2 shift ctv together. when you are at heavy traffic (damper to damper traffic) you can push a button and than you can use two gear cvt. After heavy traffic you push a button and you use manual transmission. two shift transmission is cheap. And totaly system will not be expensive but it will be very usable and effective.

I had a Nissan Altima as a rental car. It was the worst driving car I have ever encountered. When climbing up hill, the car kept first revving the engine and then bogging the engine, then revving the engine and then bogging the engine. It was constantly going through these cycles as I tried to drive up hill at a constant speed. It was impossible to keep a constant speed as the car went up hill. The CVT might work on flat roads but when you drive up hills you expose the weaknesses in the design.
@MrMikeVo
@MrMikeVo 9 жыл бұрын
I own a 07 Altima with cvt, when driving up a hill it should be very smooth, I live in a city that's very hilly and never had a problem. You sure u weren't driving in "slap stick mode" where you have to change "gears"? That's the only way I can think of that would make the engine keep reving weirdly on hills. Not blaming you or anything
@johnferguson7235
@johnferguson7235 9 жыл бұрын
MrMikeVo It was a rental car that we picked up in Pittsburgh and drove around the local countryside. If I pressed the gas pedal just a fraction of an inch as I drove up hill, the engine would suddenly switch to a lower gear ratio and the engine RPM would suddenly double and the car would surge uphill. It was worse as we hit steeper slopes followed by shallower slopes. Nissan needs to develop the CVT with better computer controls to prevent this behavior.

I have a 2012 CVT equipped Versa that was presented to me as my first car. I looked at all of the service records for the vehicle that my uncle kept and the only thing I can see related to the transmission is re-programing and a solved recall that caused the gear selector to slip out of park. 90,000km and running strong so far. When it's my turn to buy a vehicle, I'll stay away from CVTs though.

Hi all, looking for some opinions on CVT noise - high pitched, whining noise after 30min driving or so. The car was inveloved in rear end accident - quite strong one. I have stopped on the lights and then car hit me from the back at around 40km/h... also i was on the full break as I just stopped - the car was pushed about 1 meter in front. since then the high pitched, whining noise started. Now the insurance company questions this and suggesting wear and tear... is there any thing connecting and disconnecting when the car is stopped and can this mechanism be damaged by heavy impact (rattle like) in the accident? thanks m

This video makes CVT's seem like the best thing since sliced bread. Drive one and you'll want to jump out of the moving car. Quietness? LOL the CVT makes more noise and rumbling than a damn Harrier during vertical landing. Good MPG you say? Mine doesn't get close to the advertised values, and I have yet to figure out why (I drive like a granny). Do yourself a favor, don't buy a Nissan product in general and stay away from CVT's until they are engineered to work correctly and last. If you don't believe me, look up the enormous amount of CVT failures on Nissans that are less than 3 years old.

It's quite worse in the winter when the temperature drops below 40F as well. For whatever reason, the low temps cause the CVT to vibrate MUCH more. When it's very cold out and I go through a car wash where warm water is sprayed underneath the car, the CVT actually warms up and is smoother for the next few miles before becoming rough again.

It's not a big deal, just some adjustment to driving style is all. It's perfect 3 seasons out of the year though. I should mention that it's my first car and was practically given to me. uriel zavala garcia I'm an engineer also the CVT or as DAF branded it Variomatic drive is not CRAP ( a very engineering explanation there) The power band on smaller engines is limited, by having infinite gearing between low and high ratios the optimum drive force of the engine at its most effective increases the performance in terms of acceleration and can pull more weight plus give better fuel consumption. Belt drive is nothing new but the materials now available are so much better that variable drive is a viable alternative to the normal auto box which is an extremely inefficient device returning worse mileage on average than manual boxes variable belt drive returns better than manual mileage

***** CVT transmissions only make the engine work harder , yes, of course there is a slight or too little fuel savings , about 10% , but the CVT transmissions are crap , if not you just go to a dealer to Nissan , and there really all vehicles with CVT transmissions that do not work , you have to be an engineer to know that the transmission of force is better drag or push that carry over effects of friction, that's what a CVT , so they are sensitive to overheating , and any company , especially nissan , have managed to solve this problem, so it is best sequenced standard transmission or a dual clutch like the DSG VW , which also do better

I don't like the idea of it "learning" how i drive.... Granted the technology is much better than it was when that idea came out, the problem is, if you drive the majority of the time conservatively, it will learn to be conservative.... then when you DO drive like an idiot, you aren't getting the full potential of the car.. When the "learn how you drive" stuff started to become popular in BMW's, i had a friend who's car "learned" how he drove, and, decided to spin out and cause him to do a 360 in the middle of an intersection during a left turn on wet road, and smack into a truck in the oncoming lane. that was the first of several incidents i heard of. Granted, that was an 03. like i said, tech has gotten better, but... still.... if it were up to me, i'd take all of the driving computers out of cars and have a go-kart.

A belt driven transmission is a bad idea. That is supposed to be the strongest and most stable part of a vehicle. Just because these environmentalist nuts want to "decrease emissions" and save 6% on fuel, they sacrifice reliability and go for this junk.

I hand a 2013 Alitima with xtronic CVT. It is by far the worst car I've owned. The initial acceleration will wow you for approx 3 seconds and after that you will want to get out you car, find the largest hammer and beat it to death while simultaneously slitting your wrists. I curse myself for buying this stupid piece of junk. Can't wait to sell it a get back into a....................

CVT… car value Trasher these units are unreliable and costly to repair. There are the rubber belt type that stretch then the chain type that wears rapidly and then it too stretches…its like a wankle engine when it works its good when it wears it's worst than useless… warranty claim nightmare CVT…

Well its not rubber or a chain and it also does stretch because its a steel infused reverse pull directional belt. It doesnt get pulled it pushes. SMH

I am not a troll ! I loved Nissans. Couldn't wait to trade in my Camry Solara and buy my shiny new 2015 Altima! ... WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! They are right. CVT vibrates, is noisy and my gas mileage just keeps getting worse. Now the Key Fobs are failing ! I just turned 50,000 miles. and I can't wait to get rid of this turd of a vehicle ! Nissan, you should be ashamed to promote this technology as smooth, quiet and fuel efficient. It is none of the above ... VERY disappointed... Poor design, noisy car that vibrates like mad on the highway at 2,000RPM. or about 75 mph ...

what a stupid animation showing cvt being superior to traditional geared trans. the guy in red should be better because he has a downhill as opposed to the blue guy who constantly runs uphill. cvt should be banned as it was the worst invention for a vehicle ever, a big blunder

Truthfully I think they should give up making these pieces of crap my 2014 Altima is on it’s 3rd one and now that the warranty is up that whole 12,000 miles they put on um .. it would cost more to replace the garbage than the car is worth ...How’s that for value
