He dropped the rubber spacer on the bottom of the piezo igniter.. very important when it clicks the same time the flame comes out ...timing ...some need the extra space and some don't try and replace it with the same piezo igniter. If it's real difficult to light still ground the body to that piece on the bottom and make a circuit. Another trick I learned sometimes there's a cut in the insulation and it's shorting out the spark is below where it's supposed to come out I use super glue as paint it insulates then the spark comes out where it's supposed to. And when cutting it I use nail clippers and cut it flush to the top of the ceramic piece and then just bend it over don't remove the insulation it's already cut there

I use super glue for that too! Works perfect!

Mine is a metal jet lighter with a hinged lid. It's also supposed to light up a picture in the front when the lid is opened, it uses 3 little watch type batteries for that. The lid has to come off before I can take the top of the lighter off to get to the igniter and the lid is held on by real small metal pins that I'm going to have to drive out. I have a feeling this one is going to be a pain. I just hope I can find a cheap lighter with the igniter that will work.

This is why I use the new Zippo that uses flint and butane, I just don't get how to repair the clicker in the torches. I'm not saying what is better since this fix will probably last which is also efficient, but comparing the whole video length to my flint lighter it takes me about 1 min to replace flint even though I have to do it more regularly. Their actually are some torches that work off flint believe it or not, but Zippo does not.
@spicydiarrhea56622 жыл бұрын
I'm using the zippo with piezo mechanism. The clicker is quite eternal so I don't worry about that, BUT when something goes wrong I'll just learn how to replace the clicker or buy new "filling" to the case. No more fuel loses and constant adding of the liquid, the flame is wind proof, hotter and more efficient, lighter is for once a reliable tool in time of need. 8/10 would recommend
@cemetery8952 жыл бұрын
@@spicydiarrhea5662 Well I might try the Zippo single torch eventually since Zippo brand butane inserts are the best so far out of my tests. But I don't really prefer torch to smoke because it burns incredibly fast and uses more fuel. But yeah you are right about it being somewhat windproof, also you can hold it down a little bit better since it doesn't travel upwards.

where did you get the wire you soldered on the piezo? because i think those are special kind and not regular cooper strand wire
@richardshellhammer979712 күн бұрын
any solid wire will work. I believe the standard is aluminum but I have extended a short wire with a thin copper insulated wire and it worked just as well. Just make sure there is a good connection and then insulated so it doesn't allow the spark to exit there instead of the end in the nozzle.
@ARCSTREAMS12 күн бұрын
@@richardshellhammer9797 yes i had to recently do such operation to fix a broken piezo that i simply replaced with a working one but the wire of the new one was too short so i had to chop a smaller insulated piece from the broken piezo and pull on the insulation so that i am able to insert the tip of the new piezo wire inside instead of soldering which is more difficult operation but then i was still getting side spark so i used small piece of chewing gum to insulate that area, seems to be working for now but when it gets too hot the gum melts and blocks the air inlet of the flame nozzle , anyways i removed more and only left small piece of gum,, later when i find proper piezo i will install it, also you can use a dab of jb weld or epoxy maybe those will work too but i did not have any
@richardshellhammer97974 күн бұрын
@@ARCSTREAMS Chewing gum is made for chewing. There are plenty of other materials that will isolate the spark that won't melt all over the insides of your favorite torch. I wouldn't want to clean that up. :) If you don't want to or can't solder you can make a small hook on each end and then hook them together, squeeze the hooks closed and they will hold each other nicely. you can use the insulation from any wire, just pull the old wire out and slide it onto the new wire before you make the connection. If you use one that is a little bigger it will go over the connection and will shrink some with a little heat.
@ARCSTREAMS4 күн бұрын
@@richardshellhammer9797 the methods you suggest are still difficult and cumbersome to attempt when working with a delicate wire and only have so much room to work with and fit it in, the wire is too delicate to do the hook thing unless i strip out a longer piece of them on both ends and then i will end up having a much larger area where side arcing will happen and will now require larger insulation and a good portion of the wire has to slip in the channel that brings it above the brass flame nozzle and that part can only be smooth wire no insulation or anything on it this is why my method of splicing one wire tip into another without soldering makes for a smooth connection but since there was side arcking from that area the best option i had was a small piece of gum and its working fine so far until i find a suitable piezo , thanks

Not necessarily (but usually lmao) These lighters hold up insanely better in wind than any other lighter I've used and there's no bad taste from them either, that's why I use them. Well, that and the fact that they're more common than bics or zippos in the area that I'm in right now. Only started using a torch because after getting here I couldn't find zippo fluid (or even the zippo butane insert) to save my life! The .99 lighters around here are refillable torches, so had to get one. Tried to go back to my zippo when fluid for it finally arrived, but it tastes nasty to me after having used these. Sure wish they weren't so gd damn unreliable though lol
