My friend's cousin is very dark, but she has two light skinned parents. All of her siblings were light but she came out dark. She looked just like her father, the only difference was that her skin was darker. Because of her skin color, her father treated her terribly and claimed that her mother cheated and that she wasn't his daughter. In her late teens she decided to get a DNA test and it turned out that he WAS her father. He felt terrible but that's no excuse. It's a shame that this ignorance still lasts in this day in age.

But the thing is that here in Europe all natives are considered "white" and we're pretty homogenous societies, so we never experienced actual racism within our countries or Europe. In places like the US where people are from all over the world things are much more complicated. Imo colorism is a result of centuries of systemic racism (white supremacy) that brainwashed some black people into thinking "the lighter the better". Unfortunately racism is the main root of self hate within the POC community up until this day. Even us Southern Europeans were not considered "white enough" in the US some decades ago, which we all know that meant not worthy or good enough.
