Hey has any of these two things ever happened to you? One time of explorers of sky my mewtwo was level 100 and he randomly learned this move called "Nothing" one day, it had 99 PP and the moves descvription was just three dollar simbols... Also when used it did nothing, I then went to elctrive shop and forgot the move but then after one dungeon the move came back, it really creeped me out and I deleted the saved file but could you look into that for me as I am pretty sure I was not the only one who that happened to (It happened in 2015). Also one time I was in frosty forest and two pokemon sprites had sort of glitched and half of the sprite was on one tile and the other half was on the tile behind it, I wanted to take a picture with my phone but it needed to charge (This was in like 2007 - 2008 time)

I think the themes of lonleness and being an outsider are the biggest reasons mystery dungeon games resonate so well with people. Besides that, its such a perfect combo. Its a masterpiece story, in an amazing franchise, has relatable & deep characters, and has the greatest music of all time. Its enough to make a grown man cry EVERY single time.

@_Teej_264Ай бұрын
My IRL plot twist was thinking I wasn't really lonely as a kid, but revisiting my original Explorers of Time save and seeing my character was the one mapped to getting lonely as a boy in the personality quiz. Retroactively had to acknowledge that I started that game at a time when I had a falling out with my best friend and was starting to fit in less and less. I feel like anyone who was lucky enough to be like 7-12 when a Mystery Dungeon game releases ends up resonating really well with it in a way that makes it forever special.

i remember being a little kid playing this when it first came out. at the time i just really wanted to be a pokemon, but the story really got me to learn how to read more critically and made me feel a little less lonely having my partner alongside. i was a charmander and the partner i picked was a bulbaaur. similarly to what you mentioned in your video, this was my first game that made me really appreciate storytelling, and the first time a game made me cry because of how well it was made. i still remember the first time i beat the main story my mom was driving to target and the sadness i felt that i wasnt going to be with my bulbasaur and leaving him behind. the whirlwind of excitement i got from seeing that ending coming back to everyone is a feeling i'll never forget, like seeing an old friend that you've missed for so long. every now and then i'll replay the classic mystery dungeons or explorers of time and darkness. i just wish the series maintained that strong storytelling, but super mystery dungeon seemed to forget its core audience and why we loved the mystery dungeon series so much

Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky are, in my opinion, to this day the best games Pokemon has ever made. Absolutely took everything good in the foundation that Rescue team set up and enhanced it to incredible new heights. Grovyle, Dusknoir, the partner, Wigglytuff, the other guild members, Treasure Town folks, and world was simply incredible. Time was especially important because it was the game I played in a very difficult period of my childhood, but that game gave me comfort and hope for a better tomorrow. I will always cherish the PMD series, seeing this video made me feel all the feels! PS, as a little headcannon of mine, my partner Treecko I always like to think is the ancestor of Grovyle (either father or grandfather) who inspired Grovyle to try to undo the future of darkness

I really liked the Unova mainline games but it's hard to put them anywhere close to what Explorers did for it's plot, atmosphere, and character work. I do think that Scarlet and Violet did really really well getting close to this level for having depth to the main side characters and a really shocking and cool finale. It finally felt fleshed out in a way that makes me wonder where each of them will end up and what's next, which is as close as it gets to how every encounter in the town and guild area of Explorers felt so alive and unique.
@Dragonroot9521 күн бұрын
I'd say, where the Rescue Team games made the world feel dangerous and mysterious, Explorers took it a step further and made it feel ALIVE in a way it wasn't previously. The games are all fantastic in their own ways but while Rescue Team is memorable due to being first, Explorers is memorable because it did solidified the formula

For years now I’ve only really followed Pokemon as a competitive game. I’m happy to have stumbled across people who appreciate the games in a very different more sentimental way. It’s reminded me to step back from the detail a bit and re-appreciate the games on a more heartfelt level.
@greyscaleadavenАй бұрын
That's what led me to appreciating a whole other set of pokemon games that originally I wasn't thinking critically enough about. Like it's kind of easy to listen to certain loud voices in the community and go 'oh wow look at how flawed x game is the franchise has really fallen off'. I did it for a while honestly. But playing some of these games appreciating the experience of it all instead of just looking at them as solely defined by the summary of their parts or whether they follow suit with conventions of past entries really changes how you view them. Mystery Dungeon universally isn't one of these hotly debated series, but I think it applies in the sense that if you're not focusing on what's going on, it's easy to just write off the game as some dungeon crawler with a cool boss every once in a while. Not that I blame people who turn their brains off when playing games, that's partially what they're for. But if you look a little closer, there's something extra special you can take away from these games.

And I think you nailed why these games are meaningful. To go from playing Pearl where my piplup was my best buddy to actually being a little Chimchar and piplup is my best friend/companion is so special. These games understand that the bonds we form with Pokemon are so meaningful and the story is so rich. Amazing vid

My final project for university was a portfolio of music which had to have a theme throughout. I chose to rearrange multiple tunes from this game in my own style. I was always so enamoured with the pieces in this game and think it manages to nail the tone at every turn through this really cute story. I got the highest mark I ever received for this project. I owe it all and a lot of what I am to the music in this game, I absolutely adore it in every single way. Thank you Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 🥲 For those curious I did Thunderwave Cave, Magma Cavern, Mt Blaze, Mt Thunder, Sky Tower and I think my fav; Run Away. I love how you mentioned the faith that your rescue team friends have in you at the beginning of the fugitive arc but I think how easily some of the townspeople are swayed by gengar is just as striking. It's a really crazy contrast that makes the adventure feel more real and it blew my mind as a kid.

When I was a kid, I was a little too young to play these games, but my siblings played both the main series games, but also the mystery dungeon series. As I grew older, I had a cousin i was pretty close to who played P.M.D. Explorers of Darkness. I remember at family gatherings watching him play, and sometimes playing it a little myself. Then, I was gifted Explorers of Sky for my birthday, and was not only able to connect with my siblings and cousins about how great these games are, but also that game is GOAT-ed. The main story, the soundtrack, the characters.. its just so good. I enjoy especially how the game progresses with you starting out as this rookie rescue team saving little helpless pokemon. then, it progresses to you working with these really big and famous teams to help solve important stuff. then the grovyle arc OH MY GOSH, most well written story in a video game, then your team becomes the only one that can do what needs to be done and the ending of both the main and post game need to be studied for their emotional content. ALSO THE SIDE STORIES, they add sooooo much to the supporting characters, and some were lowkey kinda tricky. Actually, the game it self is hard to this day, I recently got stuck in temporal spire because I would either run into a monster house or dialga would roar of time and kill me, and the darkrai fight at the end is straight diabolical. All this to say, these games mean an insane amount to me and are a big part of my childhood.

The og mystery dungeon blue rescue team is one I played when it came out when I didn't even hit puberty yet. Then afterwards explorers of light/darkness/sky, which is even a step up in storytelling. I'm 29 years old, I remember these games so fondly. I remember getting so emotional, I remember the struggles, the cheesy tactics to make the game easier, I remember stacking multiple missions so I could reap 4-5 rewards from 1 exploration. And to this day I sometimes hum tunes from the OST from both this one, as well as explorer's of sky. Catching myself with nostalgia. The only thing I don't remember is the Pokémon I turned into, but there's a real chance that if I find my ds and my games, I can revisit my saves. I love pokémon, and I loved this random youtube recommendation.

I have so much memories to Pokemon as a whole and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was incredible. It was the first time playing as a Pokemon for me and this story was so much more than the mainline. I remember the banishment from the town so vividly. The music in the dungeon afterwards shifted the tone of the game so much. Also MULTIPLE other teams hunting and basically wanting to kill you, is so intense. Maybe I could have a chance against Gengar and his team, even if outnumbered, but with all the items and some luck it might be possible, I thought. But having the a 5000 IQ Alakazam and his veteran team hunting me had me in pure panic. And yes, ofc I cried when I vanished into the human world. No other pokemon game had me feel this way ever again.

This is the first vid I've had recommended to me. Happy to subscribe! SPOILERS FOR OTHER GAMES: When I was little I missed out on Red Rescue. Before I even had any real Pokémon games, Explorers of Time and the second ranger game were given to me as Christmas gifts. I played and enjoyed it a little but I think I got stuck a while so I shelved it a bit, picked it up when I was a little older (like maybe 10?) And I binged the rest of the game. I was shook when they were so forward that I shouldn't exist and that by saving the world I'd die. I had to take another break from the game because kid me was so shook I didn't want to stop existing yknow? But brave little me continued on, and won. I ugly cried as I watched myself fade from existence and my partner Pikachu go home and tell everyone I didn't make it. I had to explain to my mom why I was so sad, it's hilarious to think back on. The credits ended and they brought me back and I was still like "damn, that wasn't nice". Flash forward a few years and I play Gates to Infinity. They pull the same story twist that I can't stay in this world once I beat the final boss. I beat the game. Credits roll. I still shrug it off since I expect to be right back. Then a message on the menu tells me that I will now play as my partner. I wasn't returning. ABSOLUTE CINEMA. THEY DID IT AGAIN. Beautiful story of having to work through a really tough dungeon as your partner to get a wish to bring you back. So so satisfying.

10:16 In a promotional video for the switch remake apparently they had wigglytuff build a house that ended up not being quite to their liking (for example a water house for a fire type) which is why they had a house that's conveniently themed to your typing

The music from Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue is so nostalgic. I used to just sit in the Dark Ridge friend area and listen to the song. I just added a two and a half hour mashup of all the songs to my music playlist after watching your video. I remember putting in hundreds of hours into this game while I was still in school. Cyndaquill (me) and Mudkip went on so many adventures during the main story, I was like level 45 before getiing done with Sky Pillar. I just couldn't believe how much there was to the game, from the Gummi/IQ system, the quests the pokemon in the town would send you on and the growth of the friendships they had with eachother and your main pokemon, to all of the different legendary pokemon in the dungeons post-game you could recruit to your team that would unlock unique friend areas that you couldn't get from Wigglytuff. Getting the statue outside of my rescue base after getting the final rank has to be in my top 10 gaming achievements. Thank you for making this video, it brought back a lot of good memories. 😊

I think that you really hit the nail on the head as to why I loved it so much as a kid and why it remains my favourite of the Mystery Dungeon games. Never thought I'd learn something about myself by watching a video about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon but here we are.

I completely agree with the allegory about relating your partner pokémon to a kid you met that made an impression on you and you never see again. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon feels to me so frequently like a hazy, beloved memory. I remember the story beats and feeling like I was on the adventure of a lifetime, but so much time has passed that it’s never all quite in focus. I remember welling up with emotion and I remember feeling quite triumphant. It’s an RPG that treats its young audience with an immense amount of respect. I played Explorers of Darkness.

I never really considered why the mystery dungeon games resonated so much with me but I think you beautifully encapsulated it here, being a lonely kid growing up in a small town. I even have a poster for super mystery dungeon on my otherwise barren walls in my room, just because i was so hyped for a new mystery dungeon game when it came out (though i lost the game and got spoiled before i could ever finish it :( but it didn't at all diminish my love for the franchise!)

4:39 I feel like a LOT of people discovered their favorite pokemon from the mystery dungeon personality quiz. Myself included. In explorers of sky, I got Shinx, and the little shock kitty has been my favorite little guy ever since 💙

Blue rescue team was the first video game I ever owned/played. My mom got it for me whenever I saved up enough money to buy myself a DS and this series means the world to me because of it. The story hit me like a truck and I already liked Pokemon before but this was such a unique spin on it that I couldn’t stop playing. Explorers of sky was the first story that made me analyze why it was so incredible but this was my first video game story and it is incredible and the fugitive arc is still one of my favorite parts of any gaming story. Always love when people talk about this series

Awesome video Arlie. I hope you make more videos in this form and style of all things, especially Pokemon related games. I never played Mystery Dungeon (and don't plan to), but it was refreshing to see why this game had such a strong impression on you. It was charming to see you explain why you enjoyed this game so much. Excited for your future uploads!

As a kid I remember seeing the commercials and reading magazines for Red/Blue Rescue Team. Needless to say I was so hyped when the game released. And boy it delivered! Became a huge mystery dungeon fan and often return to replay this game every few years. Great video! 😀

I, too, played these games as a child and I will never forget that experience. I still consider them the greatest video game stories that I've ever played through. The amazing OST had its impact as well and I still listen to some of the themes today. I like how you describe nostalgia as a positive thing too. The term was supposed to describe a sad feeling originally, but I don't think that is the case with how gamers use it. There is a sense of longing for the past that was free of responsibilities, yes, but I would still say it is a warm feeling.

I have very fond memories of when Red Rescue Team came out way back in 2005. I was in the third grade and obsessed with Pokemon like most kids back then. That time period from 2004 to 2006, from the cartoons I watched to the games and toys I played with, super super nostalgic for me. I remember Nintendo advertised this heavily with commercials and the Pokemon Rescue Team anime they showed on Cartoon Network which had a whole Friday dedicated to Mystery Dungeon. It got me super excited and I asked my mom to get me the game for my birthday that year! Looking back it was my first introduction to a rouge-like game but with the simple exterior of Pokemon. Also the story has always stuck with me all these years later, way better than anything done in the mainline games. Really enjoyed this video!

wow just found this video by chance. I think everything you said is 100% true. I was a pretty lonely kid around 14 at the time and it was the age where you hid that you played pokemon. I mean the story telling is pretty amazing but is surpassed by its DS sequels (time,darkness, sky) plus that also fixes some of the challenges (in terms of level curves) in post game. I remember not finishing the super hard dungeons as a teen, I just didn't understand enough of the mechanics. When the remake came out during Cov-times it was amazing to reexperience the game with updated mechanics but still with the challenge. I took me like 4 hours to beat joy forest but it sure was amazing. I then went back to my og Blue save and did what the younger me couldn't and complete those eng game dungeons. :) Its a peak game you got a new sub.

Wow, this took me back! I haven't thought about this game since I was a kid, but I remember being so emotionally invested. I agree, it felt like I had so many friends in that game. I was a Charmander and my partner was a Treecko and I felt SO attached to him. What a good game. Thank you for making this 😊

The Mystery Dungeon series is one I will always have fond memories of, from renting Explorers of Sky at Blockbuster and blitzing through the game in the three days they let us rent it for to the post main story scene coming down from Temporal Tower and crying because of how emotional that scene was. Then taking it back to Blockbuster and not being able to get my hands on a copy of EoS until 2018, and only due to being friends with the manager at GameStop because he held it for me, to replaying the game again, but this time going Totodile and Cyndaquil only to cry at the same scene again. Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, Shuffle, and Conquest were big parts of my teenage years.

i love pokemon mystery dungeon so much. blue rescue was my first, but then when i was 11 i got a copy of explorers of sky and it shaped me as a person. it made me more interested in music and game soundtracks in general and it got me trough tough times, just being excited to play the game. the soundtrack still has such a special place in my heart till this day and i love seeing people talk about how good it is. really hoping it gets a good remake soon, and that they keep the charm of the originals.

My biggest and most important memory occurred later, long after I first played Rescue Team and Explorers. I had a whole timeline of events that I created, OCs I created that went from one story to the next. In this, I had it so the Rescue Team continent was north of the Explorers continent. ...And then Super Mystery Dungeon came out and confirmed that to be canon. Air Continent was north of Grass Continent. I was beyond ecstatic to see that my very own idea of the geography of this land was canon and that everything truly was in the same world.

As a kid I played gates to infinity via it's demo one day when i was bored and browsing the eshop, having never played any of the mystery dungeon titles despite playing nearly every other pokemon spinoff. My experience with that demo, everything about it but especially the story, left me so desperate to know what happens that I got the full game as quickly as possible. I think playing through it quite literally, slowly changed my whole personality for the better. I remember being an annoying kid, but as I played through gates, I think a combination of the fact that I got to play as my favorite pokemon (pikachu) and it's story in particular, reached into my heart. It made me look at the world much differently, and I found myself wanting to personally grow to be more like it's protagonist since it was supposed to represent me, and it was my favorite pokemon. The me that would tend to think mostly about himself, and would often annoy people around him for fun, changed into one that wanted to get lost in thought before doing or saying anything. One that tries to find hope in any situation and in others. It made me a lot more shy admittedly, as I talked way less in general, but I genuinely feel that it left a positive giga-impact on my personality. An impact that showed me values I will hold onto forever, that were only strengthened by every other entry I played afterwards. This is one reason why PMD is my favorite series, let alone pokemon spinoff.

I can’t decide between Red/Blue Rescue team or Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. It had such an amazing feeling as a child being able to live out a story where you are the Pokémon, and they did a great job with the strong friendships the characters build! I’ve missed these games, this video has convinced me to play through them again

When me and my brother were first bought a DS each for a holiday, I got Mario Kart and my brother got Pokémon blue rescue team. I watched my brother play the sky tower final level and we were both holding back tears because we knew that after he found rayquazza he would have to go back to the human world and leave his partner behind. The music from that level is burned into my brain it releases such powerful emotions within me and can bring me to tears and inspire me to keep moving forward even when in hopeless despair

I fell in love with this game because of the remake. I only ever played Explorers of Darkness as a kid and I liked it but I enjoyed my main series games more (which was Platinum and then Soul Silver when it came out). I hope the Explorers games get a remake next, this series doesn't get enough love.
