This palette's color story doesn't necessarily make sense for the movie, but it makes PERFECT sense for the average Hot Topic shopper circa 2008. At the risk of sounding old, it's a palette that only makes sense if you were there.

I would have loved an Oogie Boogie palette with neons and UV shades and a Sally palette with blues, a vibrant deep orange red, a matte white, even various shades inspired by her patchwork dress.

Exactly. Makeup Revolution went overboard with multiple large palettes for their collection, so maybe Colourpop didn’t want to go in that direction, but I think they could have gotten a larger palette or multiple 9-pans out of this collection.

I bought it all bc I knew I'd reuse the palette and be so happy to carry it around. It's true that 2004 me would have killed or at least shoplifted from hot topic for a palette like this. I frankly got the lipsticks bc they come in adorable ornaments I am planning on keeping and yeah u got the only good shade of the jelly much shadow but I'm not upset at all because the packaging is SO NICE. I have a few bits from last year's makeup revolution collection so they can live together it's fine.

I DID go back and buy the jelly shadows so I have all 3. And the other 2 are so so beautiful! The pink one is crazy glittery. The purple is a midnight blue with black flip. With the blue pinpoints I also got 2 lipsticks. Jack and Sally. The packages are ornaments. Really so cute. I agree that it has a merch feel, but I love that. I feel like I got a Disney gift at a much lower price. I am missing Disneyland right now so this helped. Personally I like it. Its not a pallette I will use a lot, but I'm super happy to have it!

I like the colourstory - I am just happy to see a ColourPop palette that isn't a bunch of beiges and mauves. It's a pity it is not better quality. What disappoints me is the collection feels rushed and they missed opportunities to make something like a Jack face mirror. Poor Zero just gets a cheap print on a plain black sponge. I would love to see a video of your interpretation of a NBC palettes.

I think what people didn’t get about the color story is that it wasn’t really evoking the colors of the movie but the colors we loved during that era! Hot pink, black, and gray were my color scheme! So I personally love it.

I don't dislike the colour story per se, but the theming isn't right. Had they sold it as an I Must Be Emo palette, I would have LOVED it. But it's a NBC palette and for that reason it missed the mark and is a wasted opportunity.

This is what I thought too. I think a lot of makeup fans who weren’t preteens or teenagers during that era don’t realize how closely NBC was associated with the emo scene, so they see the color story differently than us. I wish they had done a Jack palette that was more lifted straight from the movie, and a Sally palette with this emo girl color story.

Yes I love that idea you had at the end about revamping into a color story you think fits nightmare before Christmas! I would even love to see you depot it and use the colourpop nightmare before Christmas cute packaging to recreate it then maybe doing some 9 pans for each character or something!! I did buy from this collection cause I was also an emo/alternative girl who loved nightmare before Christmas growing up and I thought this was a unique color story for colourpop!

I LOVE THIS!!! I think the color story is consistent with the movie. I see all the colors in the movie. The scenes with Boogie have these colors and the other colors are definitely there. I have no idea what else people wanted. I think colourpop did a great job! I love, love this palette and it is so refreshing to see a color story that doesn't lean warm, orange, yellow or gold. This is beautiful!

I see how you displayed a perfume tray in the back, love to see it. I think you should try Vilhelm perfumerie. I loved mango skin at first sniff and bought it on the spot and really didn't like anything else. The sales associate sent me home with samples and I have fallen in love with so many of their fragrances since and now own six. They dry down exquisitely and genuinely different than once sprayed..

If Sally was a real person in the makeup community, would this be the palette she designed? Yeah, they kind of nailed that part. I have the palette, jelly much shadows, glitter gel, and the white eyeliner! I love all of it, I wore the palette on Friday too. I do agreed that it just needs a green somewhere, like a neon green jelly much would’ve been amazing since there are already pinks in the palette. The color story I love but it doesn’t match the movie. The shimmers are basic though. The Tinkerbell ones are almost foiled like you’ve mentioned.

I appreciate your opinion/swatch on Barrel. That was the only item I wanted from that release and that's because (like you) I thought it was more golden than it turned out to be and now I'm not sure I'll order it even if I could get free shipping. I enjoy the Jelly Much shadows in general because they lay down easily and really don't budge but they do dry out easily but you can recharge them with eye drops/saline :)

I see what you mean about lack of sparkle. Definitely one of those times it pays to have some glorious indi clear base sparkly eye toppers or even a gel glitter topper like the colourpop ones. It needs something. But in general I can see a ton of different looks from this palette. Plus no straight up glitter in the palette. I might have to grab it. Great swatches and look! 😘

I was one of those disappointed with the collection. I actually passed on ALL of it! (If you know me it's pretty much unheard-of) I thought about picking up a jelly much shadow just to try the formula but ultimately never placed an order

I’m just not into replacing the reds with pinks… With some reds and greens it would’ve been a gorgeous grungy palette but probably wouldn’t have sold many. The pink isn’t used at all in the movie (besides Sally’s dress maybe?), but seem like colors used in the merch. I have some old leggings that used that bright pink but wish it didn’t make it into the palette. I think some individual palettes would’ve worked better (like they did with Animal Crossing). One for Oogie Boogie, Sally, Jack, and Shock, Lock, and Barrel. The Oogie Boogie neons and Sally’s dull green and Jack’s red and black and whites would’ve taken my money.

Thanks for the video Lauren. I don't hate this, but I think this could have been improved. The hot pinks don't vibe with the movie for me (I'm also allergic to pink dye, but that's not a negative for everyone). I would have liked to see a light blue for Sally and a green for Oogie. I agree having a fan girl make this could have made all the difference. I think the packaging was decent, but I can imagine something such as Jack, Sally, and Zero on the hill with the moon behind them being an elevated design vs the current design with the pink Santa hat on Jack and open space in the bottom. I would have liked to have seen Sally more prominent on the front of the packaging. I too picked up the palette and the Barrel jelly much. I got the Zero sponge too. I knew I'd use 6/12 of the shades in the palette and normally I wouldn't buy a palette in which I would only use half the shades but for my favorite movie of all time I wanted to go for it. I've already replaced some of the shades in the palette with other colourpop shades that are more to my taste.

I can see you really getting great looks from this palette by using it with some of your more "special" sparkly, sheer, topper type shades. If they had included just one shade like that you probably would have liked it much better since you initially liked the pink dominant color story.

It's not much of a Nightmare Before Christmas palette but it feels more like a love letter Jack & Sally palette, I still do like the colors of the palette when I see the pinks I think the love of Jack & sally and I do like the dark,cool tones even though I wish there was a bright Christmas red & deep green, a pop of blue and neon lime matte green and a more orange shimmer, the zero shade is perfect though. overall I do love the ColourPop formula so much so i'm not complaining I would still buy it and appreciate it, I can make it work ^_^ lol I do prefer this palette over the revolution TBH even though the Revolution one is a little more better but way too many eye shadows the formula isn't the best but its not that bad either. I do love ColourPop a lot more, does it scream the nightmare before Christmas not entirely but it's still a pretty palette.

Does a properly shiny black even exist? not matte with a lot off sparkle that will flake off sometimes but a proper shiny black like latex for example or dried obsidian. I love the look of black matte shadow with eye gloss on top but i want that effect without having to add gloss lol

I do love the Zero and Dr. Finkelstein shades and I would totally get them as singles. But the rest of the palette just missed the mark by a long shot and it's shades that I already have. I am overall very disappointed by the eyeshadow palette and the lipsticks. That one duochrome shade is the only one they've ever made and they just seem to randomly throw it in some palettes. Like, I already have two of them from other palettes.

You can tell that it was a huge fail because it took days for anything to sell out. I personally was also super disappointed. Like everyone else I’m wondering wtf happened to the Oogie Boogie green?!? Even the single jelly shadows didn’t match Lock, Shock and Barrel. None of it made any sense. (I’m sorry if I’m being redundant in regards to your thoughts but I’m typing this out within the first few minutes of your video 😜) I’m really hoping that they will take the criticism and do something similar like they did with Hocus Pocus and do a 2nd collection next year but better!

Haven't seen the movie recently, but where's a bright red or green for the Christmas aspect? NBC makes me think neon green, purple & black with a pop of red & deeper green. Pink does not make me think of NBC.

I think the pinks were the only colors that threw me off. I would have expected greens instead for Sally and Boogy, but looking at the final palette I wouldn't want them in there. I like it as is tbh, but maybe 3 9-pans (or other smaller pan palettes) would have been better to truly theme the collection.

This collab really disappointed me. If this was the most requested collab ever why didn't they make it bigger & more makeup products??? For one the palette was small & they should have replaced the glass grays that look the same & the pinks! I LOVE the jelly much shadows so I picked them up & wow they are amazing!
