義鑑流 Gikan Ryū 其の五 Sono Go Preview

from the FULL video: www.rojodojo.c... we began class with the fifth Gikan Ryū waza that Noguchi Sensei taught in Japan. I already made one video covering this but it has a different title: 弱骨 Jakkotsu. So tonight was review, but I also added some additional details and henka.
When I studied this in Japan with Noguchi Sensei, he showed it in five different classes. That means this waza had five different flavors. But one common feature was 三 拍子 sanbyōshi, or the rhythm he used every time.
There are 5 strikes. The order, pace, and targeting can change. This allows room to adapt to different situations and opponents.
Next, we increased the rhythm with the attacker coming with a second punch. This allows you to explore what Hatsumi Sensei calls 開く hiraku, the opening up footwork that is found in Gikan Ryū.
Then I added some hidden weapons. First, the 鎖分銅 kusarifundō. I used the chain to wrap up his attack and control. And the weights are great for replacing the strikes of the fists.
Last was the 苦無 kunai. I held it in a reverse grip, then flipped it to surprise my opponent. It arcs around to hammer into his knee.
