Sorry if I go to a new country I would not aim for minimum wage and live like that. Of course one should prepare to work like a local and earn a higher wage. It is actually easy to make your own BBQ pork and you can afford many more serves with the same budget. Forget about the HK diet and eat like local, Canadian food price look cheap compared to Sydney (with the exception of milk).
In British Columbia, there is no sales tax on eggs, milks and even instant noodles. As a matter of fact that there are no GST or PST on most of the "Basic Groceries" in the supermarket!
