Y plan system wiring sequence explained in-depth heating and hot water

Iv designed and made this video to try and help explain the wiring sequence of a Y plan system and to help with the fault finding procedure. Iv stripped the plans down to just the important cables for testing and fault finding. Has real time life situations along side drawings and wiring diagrams to make it more relevant

The ‘Y’ system so very well explained. Simplistic and far more comprehensive than any of the boiler system manuals or accessory manuals. The amount of Plumbers that I come across that don’t like wiring different boilers or understand the switching/firing sequence should read this. The challenging part is going to a system where the wires have all been messed about and you have to trace all the wires. These will definitely help even the trained individuals that have a foggy moment. Tops!

Another insanely good video making this topic extremely easy to understand. Having a simplified drawing and the visual content of the programmer, room stat and 10 way working forward and backwards makes complete sense. Thanks for the great video boilers to bathrooms. Keep up the great work. I think it speaks volumes when electrician’s who say they usually don’t get involved in heating wiring are now commenting saying they will be getting stuck in next time. 🤜🏻🤛🏻 🔥 💦 🔧 ⚡️

I wonder if you could please recommend a ‘simple’ wiring change which would delete the mid-position function of the Honeywell V4073A 3 position 3 port Valve in my "Y" System. I only ever use either the H/W Cylinder or Heating separately, never both together, so as to never subject the Motor to the mid-position situation which powers the Motor at 110VDC against the Return Spring so it stays in that “powered” position even when the Programmer is switched off in the Heating Only position. To avoid this happening, when I turn off the Heating at the Programmer, I then turn on the H/W Cylinder for approx., 15 seconds, which releases the Motor from the DC Current, and so the Valve is able to, with the REturn Spring assist, return back to it’s Default, and totally un-powered, position. To avoid having to do the above, could I perhaps cut off both Resistors and the Diode from the PCB in the V4073A, so the PCB will be prevented from producing the 110 VDC current which facilitates the mid-position? However, would doing that interfere with the power to/from (?) the Orange wire which initiates the Boiler? If so, would connecting the White wire, on the Common of the 2nd. Switch solve that issue, or is there another way of doing what I want please? I’m asking this because my current Valve is a Honeywell V4073A unit, but Honeywell also produce the V4044 range of 3 Port Valves which look identical to the V4073A, except that the V4044’s are listed as 2 position “Diverter” Valves only, (no mid position), which is exactly what I want to achieve (but without spending £ 100 +++ money or my fitting time !!!).
