I am in tears. With all the recent attacks on Jews here in the US, and globally, with many murdered and Torah scrolls desecrated, this is even more relevant than when first recorded. Only light can drive out darkness. Chag Urim Sameach.

Thank you. FYI, it meant a lot to the Jewish people (of European descent) that the Catholic Church finally (and actually) apologized for what it had done to the Jewish people throughout history, and even acknowledged they were equal in dignity. Mainly because no one else ever took that step. This may not mean much to someone who isn’t informed about blood libels and whatnot, but it actually made us believe reconciliation was possible. And apologies if you’re not Catholic; I only assumed as much from the last name (same name as Phil Donahue and all).
@kevindonohue29125 жыл бұрын
@@willsofer3679 Actually, my father was Dutch/Irish, and was raised Dutch Reformed. Worse than that, my mother is German Lutheran, and that is how I was raised (but I refused confirmation and do not identify as Lutheran). I know many branches of the Lutheran church have apologized for Martin Luther's antisemitism, but many also boycott Israel, so I wonder if they have really changed. My closest childhood friend was Jewish, and her parents were Holocaust survivors (her grandmother did not survive), so from a very young age I was very aware of the horrors of the Shoah. I have studied the history of the Jewish people, the long history of pogroms and slanders, and I have also studied Judaism and have spent far more time in synagogues than in churches. I have felt this need to understand this, how this hatred has survived and morphed through the ages, when I feel that the Jewish people are my adopted family (well, I don't know if they want to adopt me, LOL, but I feel I have have adopted them). I have often said that it was my great fortune in life to know Jews before I knew about antisemitism - and for all that I have read, I still cannot understand it.

Okay, gotta say something. At 1:28 I can't help noticing that the swastika symbol has been drawn backward for the purpose it's being used for, whereas the other one featured in this video was drawn correctly. I know that many of you might say that that doesn't matter in our society, but trust me, we're living in exactly the society where it does matter. And as one of the great-grandkids of someone who died in a concentration camp, yeah, this concerns me greatly.
