0:38 shock and awe incarnate. I've always liked the scenes where the Yamato functions like a surface ship. There's a certain elegance to her -- she has the nice lines of the IJN battleship she was in her old life.
Take a moment to realize how terrifying Type 3 shells are in Yamato's main battery. The reload speed those things have as displayed during the warp gate fight was nuts.

The space battle ship Yamato has a ton of space inside the turrets, the original had much less of that, i guess autoloaders of the future help with that.
@barthoving205310 ай бұрын
I think they got the space because they only have to load the shell and not the propellant. Normally there goes 2 or 3 times the volume in propellant into a naval gun. Of course how the guns then fire is than the question. I guess they might use a liquid propellant they squirt in after the breach is closed. That 2 component liquid from Die Hard with a Vengeance would be ideal as this would also reduce the chance of a catastrophic explosion of the powder magazine dramatically.
@ABW94110 ай бұрын
@@barthoving2053 Maybe, i guess there should be a detailed explaination online. Maybe those shells have some sort of "dial a range" property, like nukes with dial-a-yield. The loading mechanism is also working as breach, which makes things more compact.

@CrystallineFoxCF10 ай бұрын
@@jmkhenkaTechnically, the shell and the Charge are two different things, and most battleships, especially late war battleships, loaded the Shell and the Charge as separate parts because otherwise the shell would be too long and heavy to store, that or you'd have like, not ammo because you have to, not only move the shells from the bottom of the ship to the top, but be able to fit it inside the elevator that goes up and down the turret ring, so if they did have leftover shells from, literally centuries beforehand, they should use them, but I meant the concept of the shell, of course they would make new ones
@CrystallineFoxCF10 ай бұрын
@@jmkhenka Also, the type 3 shells are literally physical battleship shells, most likely an AP shell with a fuse function built in, so they would be able to use what ever propellant they use in the show, which, if it was a realistic gun, would probably be a Coilgun of some kind rather than an actual propellant (Coilguns are basically the same as railguns, but how they are set up is slightly different, with the wires used to produce the electromagnetic field being wrapped around the barrel rather than in lines [which is also why railguns are called railguns, as the wires are set up in lines, or rails] making the propellant unimportant, and if they do use a propellant, it doesn't really matter which one they use in reality because space doesn't have air to rip the shell apart, and most of those shells can survive much faster speeds than what they were shot at, and only had the muzzle velocity they had because, during WWII they didn't have as great of charges as we do now, and also, the steel of the barrels wouldn't be able to survive the stress from firing shells that fast (especially not the Yamato considering Japan's steel industry even pre-war)
