They probably know about them and I would assume Garmillas encounters physical artillery on planets they conquer where the natives are not as advanced in terms of weaponry. Here they are surprised that a ship as advanced as the Yamato is using said artillery.
@KuDastardly3 ай бұрын
From the context of this scene here, both ships are inside an energy-draining nebula storm. Any energy-based weapons they fire are rendered null. Yamato however has an advantage here as they can use physical projectiles not affected by the nebula. Dessler's is just flabbergasted that the so-called 'primitive' weapons humans use are what is going to defeat him for good.

When you think about it, the Beehive shells that the Yamato used during WWII would be perfect for space, because you don't have air friction to slow down the shrapnel, and there's no gravity that will pull the shrapnel downward, the Shrapnel from the shell will just go everywhere, without stopping, unless it hits something

@@jmkhenkaTechnically, the shell and the Charge are two different things, and most battleships, especially late war battleships, loaded the Shell and the Charge as separate parts because otherwise the shell would be too long and heavy to store, that or you'd have like, not ammo because you have to, not only move the shells from the bottom of the ship to the top, but be able to fit it inside the elevator that goes up and down the turret ring, so if they did have leftover shells from, literally centuries beforehand, they should use them, but I meant the concept of the shell, of course they would make new ones
@CrystallineFoxCF Жыл бұрын
@@jmkhenka Also, the type 3 shells are literally physical battleship shells, most likely an AP shell with a fuse function built in, so they would be able to use what ever propellant they use in the show, which, if it was a realistic gun, would probably be a Coilgun of some kind rather than an actual propellant (Coilguns are basically the same as railguns, but how they are set up is slightly different, with the wires used to produce the electromagnetic field being wrapped around the barrel rather than in lines [which is also why railguns are called railguns, as the wires are set up in lines, or rails] making the propellant unimportant, and if they do use a propellant, it doesn't really matter which one they use in reality because space doesn't have air to rip the shell apart, and most of those shells can survive much faster speeds than what they were shot at, and only had the muzzle velocity they had because, during WWII they didn't have as great of charges as we do now, and also, the steel of the barrels wouldn't be able to survive the stress from firing shells that fast (especially not the Yamato considering Japan's steel industry even pre-war)

Fun fact: The Yamato-class battleship, one of the most largest and powerfull battleships in the history of world war 2. She and her sister ship, Musashi, were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, displacing nearly 72,000 tonnes (71,000 long tons) at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 in) Type 94 main guns, which were the largest guns ever mounted on a warship. Yamato's main battery consisted of nine 45-caliber 46-centimetre (18.1 in) Type 94 guns-the largest ever fitted to a warship, although the shells were not as heavy as those fired by the British 18-inch naval guns of World War I. Each gun was 21.13 metres (69.3 ft) long, weighed 147.3 tonnes (162.4 short tons), and was capable of firing high-explosive or armor-piercing shells 42 kilometres (26 mi).[16] Her secondary battery comprised twelve 155-millimetre (6.1 in) guns mounted in four triple turrets (one forward, one aft, two amidships), and twelve 12.7-centimetre (5 in) guns in six twin mounts (three on each side amidships). These turrets had been taken off the Mogami-class cruisers when those vessels were converted to a main armament of 20.3-centimetre (8 in) guns. In addition, Yamato carried twenty-four 25-millimetre (1 in) anti-aircraft guns, primarily mounted amidships. When refitted in 1944 and 1945 for naval engagements in the South Pacific, the secondary battery configuration was changed to six 155 mm guns and twenty-four 127 mm guns, and the number of 25 mm anti-aircraft guns was increased to 162. So this means that this star blazers space yamato battleship is 100 times more stronger than the original Yamato-class battleship itself

The space battle ship Yamato has a ton of space inside the turrets, the original had much less of that, i guess autoloaders of the future help with that.
@barthoving2053 Жыл бұрын
I think they got the space because they only have to load the shell and not the propellant. Normally there goes 2 or 3 times the volume in propellant into a naval gun. Of course how the guns then fire is than the question. I guess they might use a liquid propellant they squirt in after the breach is closed. That 2 component liquid from Die Hard with a Vengeance would be ideal as this would also reduce the chance of a catastrophic explosion of the powder magazine dramatically.
@ABW941 Жыл бұрын
@@barthoving2053 Maybe, i guess there should be a detailed explaination online. Maybe those shells have some sort of "dial a range" property, like nukes with dial-a-yield. The loading mechanism is also working as breach, which makes things more compact.
