as a volleyball player during high school, I miss it so much. teamwork is so important in volleyball and how the chemistry goes on between members is fundamental for the best gameplay. I really miss it.

To be fair Kageyama's ex-teamates reactions are completely understandable because they did try to go along with him until they just couldn't anymore and I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to try and indulge someone for years and them not changing but in less than a few months/weeks they changed for someone else, yes it's probably the ego that's hurting but it hurts nonetheless 🤷‍♀️

Exactly. It's easy for the audience to sympathize with Kageyama because we get to see that he's trying his best in his own way and just has trouble communicating effectively, but it doesn't change the fact that for Kindaichi and Kunimi, the majority of their practice and games is just Kageyama glaring or yelling at them to move faster and jump higher. Granted, Kageyama expected so much from them because he acknowledges their skill, but his mindset of them always having to match him is so wrong in so many ways. They put up with that for such a long time, which is actually incredible in its own right because I definitely couldn't deal with such a hostile environment. The "king of the court" nickname isn't unjustified, it's unfortunate but the way they reacted makes sense given that they were all in middle school themselves and aren't the type to talk about their feelings, and even if they were it'd be hard to do so maturely at that age after so much suffering. Really, it's lucky that Kageyama met Hinata after that experience. Kageyama now knows that trust is important and that he couldn't go on in the same fashion, and he finds Hinata, who has athleticism but is practically a novice in terms of skill, so Kageyama is forced to match him out of necessity, and then their journey of growth unfolds.

Spoilers (?) for the manga In Oikawa's flashback, Kageyama was nothing but a cute kid when he was in his first year of middle school and keeps asking Oikawa to teach him how to serve despite Oikawa hating him, but for some reason, his personality changed, he went from oblivious innocent kid to egocentric arrogant King. Why is that? Well, from the day Kageyama was born, his grandpa was always there for him and I think playing volleyball is in their blood since the grandpa is a coach and his sister is a volleyball player too, and his grandpa supported him until the end, but when he was about to be a second year in middle school, his grandpa died, and I think that's the reason why he became like that. It led to depression, and soon after, his personality changed. That's why he's grateful he met Hinata and Karasuno. Without them, I think he would keep being the egocentric king he is.

Because each has their own wrongs in how it all went down but I feel like Kunimi and Kindaichi often get very harshly judge on their 'pettiness' or anger over Kageyama but you can see from their reactions that when they are shocked at seeing Kageyama apologise for his toss to Hinata yeah sure its a victory but it's also sad to think that they probably never got any apology from him with how they were treated even tho as you said it's because he acknowledged their capacities and thus expected a lot, Aoba Johsai coach was very point on when he said that Kageyama changed thanks to Karasuno and Hinata because I do believe he might have never changed if not for them and I'm glad to see him get along with his team and have fun playing as well as his team having a good time, it isnt truly a victory if you're not satisfied of it or feel defeated by the end of it ^^

@@rikaakamura5621 oops guess I spoiled myself lmao but it's okay and if that's what happened yes it would 100% explain his change, trauma can really change someone forever and I actually would say Oikawa is my favourite character because in a weird twisted way he is the most human of them all, from birth we are creatures of desire, greed, ambition and envy and Oikawa really embodies it but managed to cope it in a more healthy way later on realising just how destructive all those raw emotions were by replacing it with acting as petty and childish as possible, but to get back on topic I completely agree, he found his sun that illuminated the dark place he was in and he probably would have never gotten this chance had he accepted Seijoh invitation or got into Shiratorizawa cause he would have probably not even gotten to be setter as long as Ushiwaka would be the Ace with such attitude

I know it's 4 years later but there is also an underlying socio-economic theme in Haikyuu. Karasuno, Nekoma and Inarizaki are all public school from rural parts of Japan, and just like what we see with Hinata sometimes they don't have teams, no coach, or even no court, the characters live far away from everything and they have to help their families with their works. They don't take hard work the same way. And without spoiling the last arc of the manga, Hinata's family not having money is shown even more there. I think it really help the manga show all kind of characters.
