Ricardo - Generally keep the helm locked in midship position and use the engines to manoeuvre the boat. Only when you have some speed through the water will the rudders work

very confusing explanations................

when you are maneuvering the boat with the engines what is the position of the helm ? do you center the helm and let the engines do its work or do you help the engines by turning the helm to the same side the boat is turning? Due to the tall side decks of a catamaran, if you have to moore bow first how do you unload the crew to the pontoon ?

a great way is leaving the helm in midships, while performing your maneuver with both engines, then use it when done 😊

Are bow thrusters useful on a cruising cat or a simple unneeded luxury?

+Wayne Cook... Questions would be useful, if ya ever got an answer. Being a month later I'm guessing Yachting World isn't going to answer. In dealing with small boats I've owned, a bow thruster would have been nice. On a Cat, I would say a necessity.

They would be an unneeded luxury. If you can't dock a boat using just the mains and some basic line handling, then you probably shouldn't be driving a boat.

Oh man, I was a commercial fisherman and my skipper would have been screaming at the guy on the stern to have a bumper in his hand. The bumpers that are hanging are doing nothing until the boat is tied up. That was terrible.

I learnt nothing there.

This designer should focus on how to design boats: he has no whatsoever idea of teaching or giving instructions/explanations
