CANNES YACHT SHOW DAY 3 - BERING 70, BAGLIETTO 40... and a SURPRISE!!!

Day 3 of the Show brought more than one surprise. The Bering 70 was a fascinating yacht and the owner of the shipyard was an interesting character who clearly knows what his mission is; to create simple, robust, cost effective yachts.
The Baglietto 40 too was a tremendous yacht, and it's great to see such a historic Italian shipyard making it's mark on the industry again.
The biggest surprise of all though came after my tour of the Bering 😂

Bering is my favor brand really but I would it love for them to open all the storage compartments, draws.. and all what Nauti Styles does... BC you really get a sense of the design & distribution more than the look of the boat and of course all the tech explanation that Alexies does so well. I would love to see the layout and features of the new Bering 70 and 72.

Got to love when the owner of the ship yard spends 3 months on his own product and goes through and finds everything wrong with it. Nauti Styles did a walk-through of their ship yard and the quality of their builds was very impressive. The unknown material on the wall of the BAGLIETTO is quartz, you can see it in high end homes as well.

Listening to the pitch for the Bering 70 I was "pfft, yeah right a 24m boat can deliver". But then I saw the little model, "Hm okay, it actually LOOKS like a big boy." Then the tour started...."I want this boat."..finally something that might actually be within my reach if I really focus, don't eat, and use no money at all for 50 or so years. I'm really impressed. They legit delivered what he said, giving the feel of the bigger boats. Also, hats off to the camera man! Doing a great job! Can't be easy trying to capture everything. I can see someone is very interested in camera work, giving us all these creative views and angles. :)

I saw how passionate, knowledgeable, humble and committed Alexei is in the Bering's tour from NautiStyles (which is great) and now I saw him recognizing publicly that they've made a mistake, learnt from it and now fixed it. That's all the ingredients I need in a person to know it's a great one. I really hope you finally get to Bering's shipyard some time in the near future and do so with a lot of intelligent questions for Alexei. I'm sure I won't be the only subscriber that will appreciate his answers.

Great video! If you want to see some more Bering, NautiStyles has a mini-series with them; I think you'll be truly impressed with the owner's passion. I liked your commentary as you were giving the walk-through with the second yacht. It's always nice to hear some background or inside information about boats instead of just "here's the dining area, here's the sun deck." Nick's appearance was well-done! re: upper helm- I live in the Puget Sound region and have a trawler style boat with upper helm. When the sun is shining and you're motoring along its the best place in the World to be! Also, it provides excellent visibility both while traveling and docking. Highly recommend! Thanks for the great vids, David!

As an American who frequents home depot who also has vintage British cars I would just like to say that using standard parts when it comes to electrical systems or electronics is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch smarter. Custom marble counters... love it. Custom handrails... absolutely. Custom electronics... drown it and find your nearest home depot :) But that's just my 2 cents. Also why do so many yachts have light colored carpets? They look great the first day you have them and then you spill 1 cup of coffee at sea and it becomes modern art.

Yachts can have light coloured carpets because they have crew that will spend all night removing the wine stain from the previous evening and then the carpet gets replaced end of season. (I assume)

If we were interested in a traditional coastal or long distance cruising power boat there are two names at or near the top of the list. Nordhvn and of course Bering, with Bering being a bit higher because of their redundancy and their steel/aluminum construction.

He’s right, unsurprisingly 😆vessels around 80’ and less, are the best size! It allows you to get in closer to shore and experience anchorages that would otherwise be a distant view only. The steel hull obviously has its advantages and disadvantages, in my opinion. Electrolysis being one of the disadvantages and strength, obviously being one of the advantages. If you're going around the world or just very long term cruises, sure. For a weekender or a week here or there then a yacht with a planing hull and the ability to cruise at 20 to 30 knots might make more sense. Personally I'd love live-aboard and do long trawls, but that's not the only style of boating.

I have no idea how true it is, so don't take this statement as fact. There is a lot of negative feedback on the larger (100+ foot) Nordhavn boats from at least 2 different owners. I am very curious about the Bering 145 feedback from an owner in a couple years.

On the Baglietto 40, you mentioned the the ease the stews would have serving meals on the aft deck, but how do they serve the guests on the bench aft of the table? It seems to me that bench seating may be appropriate for casual service, but doesn't work for more formal service (although that may not be expected on a smaller yacht).

Hi David. I honestly think you and the camera crew need to work on the unscripted boat show walkarounds. The camera work pans too quickly from the scene, back to you and then back to show the boat. It's almost as if the camera operator can't decide whether to have you in the shot or the boat so it can get disorientating and annoying to view. I know you don't have time to do the usual VO with moody slow-mo footage that needs heavy editing while you're at a boat show, but the quality of these videos sell your usual high production values short. I say focus on the boat, only coming back to you when you're showing a new feature or are in a new section of the boat because you're using a remote mic so the camera doesn't need to have you in-shot to capture your voice. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work.

I am a refugee here, ran away from Nick's channel (Aquaholic) because he limits free expression on his channel. If he is reviewing a Beneteau for example, you can't criticize it really. It is a live aboard. I don't think it was explained very well but his version of live aboard is to also have a go anywhere vessel which this one is not (but new ones are). This is as live aboard (unless crew is needed) as any Nordhavn. If you're lacking a skill and need crew then Nordhavn would be better than this specific boat.
