I like that the owners wanted it to look nice, but didn't want to 'show off' as Carla put it. If I ever commissioned a yacht, wheelchair accessibility and an elevator would definitely be on the list to accommodate my mother and an aunt. Carla is not the first interior designer that I've seen, but she's already my favorite. 😉 I'm looking forward to your next video(s).

Well, it's beautiful for sure. I really appreciate the very practical solutions. I've been waiting to see more use of sliding doors on yachts for a long time. If it was also relatively cost-efficient to build and will stand the test of use and time, then she'll have the final stamp of approval!

Amazing coup! I've already admired this yacht many times on a few other channels, but I was happy to do so again... and then you have the designer to explain to us how it all came together! I've long thought that none but Andrew Winch would do, but this lady impressed me! (Carla Guilhem duly noted!) I have rarely seen a yacht with such a warm, calming and comfortable vibe, it's just brilliant. The layout is perfect for this particular use, AND it has a nice captain's cabin up where it belongs, AND bright, roomy. and welcoming crew quarters below. I've been wondering what that beautiful material on the walls was.. and then she tells us (Chinese limestone)! AND you ask exactly the right questions (about the surface). Loved this one! It's been a long time since I've used that many !!!s on a comment, but this video would do with no less 😄 Thank you!

I really vibed with this one. I think making it wheel chair accessible really helps eliminate so much of the unnecessary details that end up just getting in the way. Good parameter to work within in my opinion. Thanks so much for the tour and congratulations!
@rugby342 Жыл бұрын
It is good to see a yacht claim "Wheelchair Accessible" and actually offer access to all decks. Great job on the Naval Architecture because thats where true accessibility starts and as someone who uses a wheelchair for permanent mobility the only change I would make to improve my stay onboard is to have a Round Elevator so I could push into the elevator, turn around and push out. The current narrow rectangular elevator would require me to back out of the elevator and since this is the only change I would make I have to commend the Naval Architects and Owner for their excellent job at backing up the claim of wheelchair accessible. You have surpassed the mark of w/c accessible and are more aligned with the term "Barrier Free Design" because not all yachts claiming to be w/c accessible offer full independent access to all guest areas, they still have barriers to independent movement. Great job all around and there is much to be proud of.

Some nice elegant design elements. I particularly like the look of the little office by the master. Subtle material patterns with fine line contrasts. Concealed door hinges which is a must in my book for houses as well. I see luxury house builders that don't do it and it's a crime :) Very clean, square, tight and the geometric roundings. Somewhat star trek/space ship like. It's a sophisticated look. The upper cabin is very nice too. One thing I would change which is probably due to the structure, is the two encroachments by the door to the salon. Larger yachts often have that and to me it closes in the room too much and in a way voids the first part of the room. If it is for structural reasons, material can be plenty strong to do without such a volume. In my view it's too critical a space. If some structural engineer says they want that for structure the answer is going to be no :) And I would always present a yacht with unfettered windows. Never cover the windows. Ever :) because suddenly it's an enclosed space with no window effect and that's a key part of the experience.
@rugby342 Жыл бұрын
Im with you on the enclosed feeling as you enter the main deck salon but im assuming those are access to the crew or engine room, if just storage I would relocate it.

The round features...Achille Savigne from Azimut. The color pallette and fluting...Kelly Hoppen. However, Carla doesn't do the color contrasting that Kelly is most known for. If I was able to design a yacht, Kelly Hoppen, Hot Lab, Patrick Knowles, or Winch Design would be my top choices but this does rank up there. Although I don't think Bering or Numarine will let you choose your own designer. You should feature some of the interior designers like Hot Lab, H2, Winch, Nuvolari Lenard, Patrick Knowles, Terence Tisdale, etc.

It probably would do designers and naval architects good to find a local hospital or rehab that specializes in Spinal Cord Injuries and get in a light weight manual wheelchair for a few hours and try to do normal everyday tasks like pushing over various floor coverings, open doors, use a sink, use the elevator, turn around in a bathroom or day head etc. This would give valuable insight on seeing barriers that went unnoticed before. This coupled with talking to disabled individuals who live an active productive life to see how they overcome barriers faced daily would be invaluable. Search out local wheelchair sports like racing, tennis, basketball or quad rugby and go watch an event or practice and I know they would be glad to offer input.
@pookatim Жыл бұрын
I was going to comment that the interior seems a bit stark but then she mentioned the requirement for wheelchair access and suddenly everything made sense. A person in a wheelchair doesn't need a lot of clutter impeding their progress. Also, all that open space could be used with embellishments by a second owner who doesn't have an accessibility requirement. So, good job creating an accessible space that doesn't look like a hospital.

Fascinating yacht. Do yachts with this sort of strong design sensibility sell for more or less than those that are more mainstream? Or - does it not matter? I find the economics of things like yachts interesting separately from the yachts.

Kudos to Carla for taking on a difficult job given the design restrictions of the ADA. I believe this is a niche where, especially in coming years as boomers get older, she can become the “go to” designer for difficult design work of all types.

The English word she seeks for rounded feminine lines would be Voluptuous, this is also Erotic, however everyone who builds a custom Yacht wants Voluptuous Eroticism in my opinion. unfortunately the color palate is Arctic Igloo, of course i understand this is a commission and you must give the owner what they envision. great design. its cold and stark looking on video, although it could be nice to come back to this white refrigeration unit after a 90 degree day with the riot of people and color on the northern shores of the Mediterranean.
