Two of their yards simple are in the wrong location for yachts with such dimensions. Must be expensive to get them out to open sea. And it takes longer to deliver them this way

@@williamdrijver4141 I think they're probably at the very limit of what they can do, but I'm sure there's some advantages to having more suppliers and workers around them that outweighs the obvious problems. Plus, the waters will be still during storms there, not so on the coast.

@@gregvaughan8412 I see it as a similar problem to how a gym was described in Leith in Edinburgh. It was right at the edge of the city, at the harbour. Problem was that half their customers were fish and you only get people in with a certain radius! For Feadship the best workers for them will only be within that radius too; one advantage of being inshore that I'm sure many would overlook! They do look awesome the ships they build.

Personally, I would love to see you do a cost comparison and breakdown of commissioning a 75 to 100-metre yacht with different yards (my personal favorites are Lurssen and CRN) maybe even just the average cost per metre or GRT in each region as I imagine going into too much detail would get you in trouble with some yards. It is something I've always wanted to know (so I am well prepared if the time to build a yacht ever comes) but there is so much conflicting information out there. Thanks, keep up the great work!
@williamdrijver41414 жыл бұрын
Percentage wise, that would be relatively easy I think. Most yachts are quite similar, as features and materials go.
@JB-so5gr4 жыл бұрын
Apparently, Lurssen is a lot less than Feadship and the Italian yards are a lot less than that still. The closest I have seen to real build cost numbers is M/Y Radiant built by Lurssen, it was in a court case thus what was paid, etc was part of the filings. It shows the Russian person who commissioned it agreed to a price of €148,540,000 plus interior finishings (apparently another 10-20 Million) paid by installments (a lot less than the €300,000,000 build cost some websites would have you believe) But when the financial crisis of 2008 hit, he was unable to pay the seventh installment of €23,890,000 so put it on the market as a yacht still under construction for €300,000,000, just a few months later it sold to a middle eastern family for €240,000,000. Apparently M/Y Serene also sold for almost double than building costs, and that was after it being used for a while. So it would be interesting to know if that is still what is going on and if there is truly a vast difference in costs between each yard/region.
@williamdrijver41414 жыл бұрын
@@JB-so5gr China is the cheapest I think, followed by Turkey, then Italy, and I figured the German and Dutch yards were asking about the same prices? De Vries is unable to build Lurssen size, Van Lent only since last year in their Amsterdam yard?

His channel tends to do every area of a yacht, I follow Jared Watney, for another version of life as a crew member. He’s no longer working as a crew member, but now he does photography for yachts. I follow eSysman for another crews perspective and explains a lot about his years of experience. I follow work on a super yacht and his channel explains his job and what you need to do to move up in rank on a yacht. I follow NautiStyles for their perspective as boat owners, managers and they visit a lot of different types of yachts. These plus yachts for sale are my go to channels for yacht info. All these channels have excellent content and loads of information if you are interested in buying a yacht or working on one. Me personally I just like watching from my couch.
