I use my 857D with wsjt-x and fldigi via digital VOX and a Signalink. I could never get the rig to communicate properly or consistently with the computer (Win 10 laptop) to enable rig control. So one day I tried solely digital VOX and it worked fine, but without rig control. For me, this is not a deal killer, so VOX it is. Take care, have fun, stay safe. 73 de Cliff W3KKO

I noticed something odd with FT8 on my 857d. When setting the transmit frequency in WSJT-X, the rig center frequency seems to be interpreted as the center of the SSB passband rather than the carrier frequency. Is that your experience as well?

@frank wc0o - some sources claim that you should only use CAT rate 4800 bps with Yaesu857 when setting up menu #19 for use of digi modes. You recommended 38400 bps, do you feel that it works just fine, have you tested the lower 4800 bps?

I have never tried 4800 bps. You should try 4800 and if your results all good then you should keep it that way. It’s possible that other equipment could not go any higher than 4800 when this radio was first introduced . If you do decide to use 4800 come back and tell us if you liked it.

@@frankwc0o Thank you for your swift reply! I am happy to confirm that the 38400 bps setting works very well w/ the Yaesu 857D and FT8. My earlier problems were caused simply by a bad connection in those !%##"! mini DIN connectors on the Yaesu rig, got them modified and sorted today. Thank you for your excellent instructions, got the Yaesu a new job as my parks/44 rig now! 73 de OH2CJI

4800 works fine with my 897 for all the digital modes I've tried. I had to do this rate as the port is shared with an AT897+ which runs at 4800.

I've Ft857. on Ft8/DGI mode with CAT if I set power more than 10 watts was errors, I mean the frequency inconsequential or move on another band uncontrollable. How about you? YD2CQE

@@arafebi5414 Had very similar problem with Ft-857 running on old G73Jw Asus. I put ferrite beads over all of the USB cables, and the audio interconnect cables connected to Asus, and it fixed it. I think the asus was just too sensitive to RFI. The notebook lacks any good RF shielding, and there are very few ways to provide sufficient grounding. It took a bunch of ferrite beads on each cable.

On one hand people tell me the FT-857D won't do Digital without a soundcard, on the other hand Rig Blaster Tech support said I didn't need their interface.

It’s true you need some type of interface so the computer can talk to the radio. You should look into digirig very easy to use. Check it out

IF you use the AT897+ tuner, the baud rate can only be 4800.

All the software can be downloaded to the Raspberry Pi. All you need to do, what I did, was to configure the files to start up correctly.

I have the same problem. I can RX, but when I try to TX, radio red light comes on, but power meter shows nothing being transmitted, and PTT LED on SignaLink stays dark. BTW, my setup as-is works fine with Fldigi, but not with WSJT-X. Help!

@@davidboyd1395 I have the same issue with WSJTX and the Digirig mobile. I don't know what to do RX is great , TX red light is on no power out. If you figure out a fix please post it.
