Damn! Yahara Sensei looks just as strong and just as sharp as he did back in 1990 when I first went to the Hombu Dojo in Ebisu as a green belt and was awed by him. At that time, he used to walk into the dojo before class and all of the black belts in the class would immediately avert their eyes for fear that he would call them out to spar. When he did call someone out, he usually dispatched them with the same ease a cat would a mouse, but in this case--whether the mouse knew it or not--he was receiving an honor and a memory that would stay with him for the rest of his life. I'm glad to see that Sensei is still teaching.

Very strong, but this emphasis on the hip opening is overly exagerated. The Hikite in a street fight would normally be used to pull the hand of the aggressor back while doing a counter with the other hand. So there is no way you would be able to open your hip that much. I think the original Nakayama teachings are more realistic, as stated in Vol.2 of the Best Karate series, basically up to 45°. Not almost 90° as shown here.
