I am friends with Jimi's bass player Billy Cox. He did tell me once that they saw Sha Na Na at The Scene and that Jimi was standing on a table shouting how good they were.

I'm a life-long Hendrix fan and didn't know he recommended Sha-Na-Na until recently...I couldn't love Jimi more!

He recomended among others Arthur Brown to be played by radio stations. Jimi was a good person !

I credit Sha Na Na for reminding everyone what had been left behind in rock and roll, and perhaps playing a role in spurring the new wave/punk scene of the late seventies which, especially with the rockabilly revival, had looked to the roots of rock and roll for inspiration.

People forget that Hendrix cut his teeth backing Doo-Wop bands and artists such as The Isley Brothers. Sha-na-na is a Doo-wop band but not a watered down Doo-wop band, they brought in the energy. Hendrix really was into that.

I agree with Jock . Zoned out hippies . They didn’t know what to think . Some weren’t having it . Some knew the material and started singing . Some were laughing as if they were on Candid Camera. ( the first “punked “ show ) but in the end most were won over as evident in their success through the 70s .

I love the story he tells about the festival organizers asking Jim Hendrix to go on Sunday night to finish off the festival and he refused because it wouldn't be fair to the other bands who hadn't gone on yet.

@@jefflapointe5251 The 94 one was a good one too. Not the groundbreaking one of 69 but it was good . This time they knew what to do and the stage was better . Woodstock 69 was not overrated . The 3rd one ? . Unfortunately wasn’t the charm and showed where society was heading . You are right in your assessment .

No, I disagree with her, those hippies were bummed. They wanted the contemporary hippie folkie or psych music of the time, not an amazing flashback band like Sha.
