Ford CEO Jim Farley on EVs, Detroit, and texting Elon Musk

"After 120 years, we've seen a lot of competition," says Ford CEO Jim Farley to Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi in the grand hall of the newly refurbished Michigan Central station.
The historic building is, in many ways, the crown jewel of the automaker’s new $1 billion Detroit-based campus. Ford’s 30-acre innovation district, centered around the station, will serve as a base for developing its autonomous and electric vehicle businesses. The development serves as something of an emblem for Ford’s future ambitions, much of that, today, takes the form of the push into the EV space. "It was Bill Ford's vision to make the commitment to revitalize this building," says Farley.
In a wide-ranging interview, Farley discusses everything from demand, the upcoming Presidential election... and whether or not Tesla CEO Elon Musk texts him back.

Why get a Mach-E when you can get one of the GM products? Equinox, Blazer, Lyriq are all miles ahead of Mach-E.

It is great to have the choice and the Mach-E looks great indeed with really nice interior and exterior design. I was not sold by the Mach-E drive train (the chassis floats a bit) and the car brakes very strangely over the last 10-15 meters before full stop. Not a big fan of the user interface either. But that is not the point. We need choice and Ford is a great car company that deserves to thrive, especially with such a great CEO. I have had three Teslas, among other ICE, cars since 2019 and they are not perfect cars. But so far, I am a super happy Tesla customer. (2019 Model 3 Perf, 2023 Model Y Perf, and 2024 Model S Plaid.

I like Jim. Seems like a good guy that is level-headed. Glad he is brining up the privacy issue with all this technology. Unfortunately privacy is something we have to think about with any piece of technology.

Small ford stock holder. Will continue to purchase their shares when they are at reasonable prices. I do like the company, and it’s current CEO. They understand vehicles, and what real vehicle enthusiasts want better than a lot of other vehicle manufacturers. And their shares pay a dividend….

Of course Tesla is the leader, and does great things, but the Lightning and the Mach-e are very nice cars. Should Ford make even better Lightnings and Mach-es in a couple of years, they will certainly have compelling EVs to consider.
