With you Thomas 100%. I was a new Christian and never listened to anything outside of hard rock and blues back then, and then I heard Yahweh and Wow! - I thought Christian music had to be folk / country and Matthew and Phil took my head off - a Christian Band that knows how to ROCK!! Remains, alongside "Now that I Belong to You" my favourite 2nd Chapter songs, Shalom and blessings from Australia!

I have seen Phil numbers of times, always incredible. I saw Matthew at the Jackson Hole Christian Center once. I am always the first one in the door, I watched Matthew's sound check and warm up as the only one in the seats, he came down off the the stage over to me & stared at me, then kicked me in the leg just for fun. That was a high point in my life. How The West Was One is my favorite live recording of all time. Rock & Roll on The Rock Christ Jesus! 👨‍🌾

Amen. My Jesus follower brother had several of his early albums and loved his music before becoming a believer. Had a new appreciation after accepting Christ. “Spend my life w you…”

@@hackednhanoied Just one of his best. I had read somewhere a long time ago that he wrote that song early on. Like maybe in the Glass Harp days and it was about a women. And that added and or, changed a few things to make it about the Lord. When you first listen, it can sound like a regular love song, in fact, much of it does. But what he added made it a love song to Jesus. I kind of think it's partially to his wife but mostly about the Lord. "I believe the day is coming when we'll never be apart" has to be about eternal life. But also, maybe he's also saying that to his wife in an eternal sense. It's a beautiful song either way.

I attended one of his live concerts in the '90's; it was at a church, so it was pretty intimate. Being that close to a guitar master while he performed was something I'll never forget. Unfortunately, I was never able to see Iona perform live. If you enjoy a good shred, check out Dave Bainbridge's guitar solo at 4:19 (but please check out the whole song; it's beautiful.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHK5nIuqdrVmr9Esi=R_nEPXZTVeznKkNV

Worship was rich and for real in the 70's, my sister got saved that year she shared Christian music with me, I wasn't hip to the contemporary, soon became a fan of Mathew and his sisters and others, until the lyrics became more convicting, I was humbled and relinquished my will to Jesus 8 yrs. later. may our Heavenly Father Bless your ministry and lives; also respect to Keith Green RIP

Phil Keaggy must be one of the top 10 guitar players right along with Jimmy Hendrix, Clapton and Jimmy Page. Apparently the fact that he never played in a supergroup and that he became a Christian early on was a negative for the critics.

This is a different show!!! The show was aired by Barry McGuire as host. It was in two parts. Part one featured the band DAVID (with Phil Keaggy) and was all 2nd Chapter of Acts songs. The second part aired a week later with the band doing Phil's songs. While this was recorded earlier, the broadcast was in 1982 or 1983. The episode with Phil aired a month or so before I got my first Beta Max home video recorder! I saw the show, and you can bet it would all be here at KZbin for everyone to enjoy if only I had that video machine earlier! Still searching after all these years!!

Love that voice, love that guitar! Would have been cool to see them at Woodstock rather than in the mediocre ghetto of “Christian Rock”. I am 60 and I think that was such a weird era of music. I have been a follower of Jesus since my teens and used to enthusiastically embrace every Christian band going. I still have many of the old albums but kind of cringe when I think about how we paid money to watch mediocre rock bands give us grief for how lukewarm we and the church in general were….. I think many of these bands were just grumpy because they were not making enough money to survive ……..🧐
