@@gxlxn Do not identify ordinary people from Russia (and anywhere else) with capitalists (bankers and oligarchs). In any country in the world, ordinary people are normal. And all ordinary people have common interests and desires. But wherever the bourgeois are admitted to power, problems such as inequality, national, religious and other types of discord and enmity always begin. Crises and wars. The goal of capitalism is always the same: exploitation, oppression, war, so that the poverty and death of the masses of the people bring him maximum profit. " (V.I. Lenin.) "Capitalism has no moral and ethical values: everything is for sale. It is impossible to properly educate people in such conditions : people turn into egoists, and sometimes even into bandits.“ (Fidel Castro.). Hello from Russia. Proletarians of all countries - unite!

The Soviet Union of the late 80's and early 90's were quite advanced for a country whose economy was starting to slide down the toilet. Their Navy had dozens of large destroyers and cruisers that had some of the best missiles and CIWS that money could buy. Aircraft development was also fairly advanced with projects like this, the MiG-29 and the Su-27; but to be honest America stumbled on a goldmine with stealth tech in the 80's.

***** yeah? So what? Doesn't change or contradict my point that the F-35's swivle down nozzle is a Pratt and Whitney design one bit. Why do you guys always engage in such pointless conjecture and speculation just to protect your pride? When a designer is dusting off a 40 year old highly technical and difficult concept that never flew in a plane, its good to branch out and learn from other sources who copied the design and incorporated it successuly. I already said the YAKs were the first actual planes to successfully fly with the swivle down duct.

No, Its not true. This shit has been debunked years ago! What Lockheed paid for was the flight data of the Yak 141 and the rights for a visual inspection. Later Lockheed tried to enter into a partnership with Yakovlev over a bomber version of the Yak-41, but the deal fell through. As far as the F-35, The X-35 (prototype to the F-35) 3bSN lift system was designed well before Lockheed entered into any arrangement with Yakovlev over the 141 flight data. Lockheed got the 3BSN plans and patents from the General Dynamics library when they purchase GD. General Dynamics owned Convair who worked with Pratt and Whitney on the first devised 3BSN that was to be part of US Naval Convair 200 project (which predates the YAK141 program by almost 10 years). Rolls Royce, GE and PW were all contract to devise versions of this lift system. All of them filed patents. PW had an operation test version of the 3BSN by 1970 and this was the one Lockheed based the X-35 3BSN lift system on. The question is, where did the Russians come up with the exact 3BSN design for the Yak141, which wasn't developed until after 1978 and did not undergo testing until 1980?

The YAK-141 has been developed in USSR and produced in Russian Federation. At that time when the new YAK-141 come up in the international Air Shows it was a great success and the newest fighter jet which doesn’t have any alternative in the worldwide jet manufacturers .

This Yak 141 is not the F-35. The Yak-141 crashed and the company don't have anymore money to continue development after USSR dissolved. That is why the design are sold to Lockheed to save the company. The main problem with the Yak-141 design is the hot exhaust may get suck into air intake during vertical landing or take off. Causing the engine to fail and the aircraft to loose lift and crash. F-35 use a lift fan that not only provide lift but also blow away the hot exhaust from the air intake and solve this problem.

First flight was in 1987, first landing on a carrier in 1991. It was developed to replace Yak-38, which failed combat tests during operation "Rhomb" in Afghanistan in 1980. After that minister of defence Ustinov (the apologist of VTOLs) decided to design carriers of 1143 project for classic jets also (like _Admiral Kuznetsov_) to avoid risks with VTOL jets development, but it wasn't cancelled. After fall of USSR, 6 carriers were sold or scrapped, Yak-141 project had no other option.

I remember being 13 year old kid in Milton Keynes UK in 1983 when jump jets were the new fangled thing. We had just seen The Day After movie and it had people talking a lot about nuclear war. Then there was this period of intense military activity where UK and US jets would be screaming past my home and school constantly for several days and nights. I would lay in bed at night and hear jets roaring across the sky and wonder if WWIII was kicking off and we were all about to die. We literally discussed at school where the nearest targets were and if we would make it. It did distract us from fighting over football, but it is far from the ideal way to grow up. Some seem to want a new Cold War and to put more generations of kids through that kind of anxiety. That really annoys me. NATO countries are being told to buy more bombs from Uncle Sam because .....Russia!!! They do have issues with their neighbours at times, but they are hardly going to conquer Europe or launch a surprise attack on the USA with their nukes. They are not suicidal.

The establishment of an open terrorist dictatorship of financial capital is underway. And in many countries of the world at once. Capitalism, trying to move into the form of corporatism, always follows the path of fascism. In the 1900s, the Soviet Union opposed this. Then those who build fascism, having failed to do everything by force in 39-45, lie low. But they haven't gone anywhere. The Fuhrer was just a tool in which the richest people of the entire capitalist world invested money. Now there is no one to resist world fascism... For even Russia is a capitalist country... remember this. If you don't want to live in a class society where your children won't have the opportunity to develop and improve, study Marxism. Otherwise, when they come to you to measure the shape of the skull, it will be too late...

This aircraft was banned from taking off vertically during this particular display as it had burnt a big hole in the runway on an earlier one. There was a large contingent of Russian aircraft present that year and they put on a great display. I was standing next to some American fighter pilots and even they were impressed with the Russians. The Backfire bomber was definitely the dirtiest, the plume of smoke left behind afterwards was impressive but for all the wrong reasons.

It seems that everyone blithely says that the F-35B's lift technology is directly based on that of the Yak-141, but doesn't the Yak-141 actually use three jet engines total--one in the rear that vectors about 90 degrees and two mounted close to vertically in the front? While the F-35B also has a rear-mounted engine (like most fighters) that vectors downward about 90 degrees, instead of separate, additional lift engines it has a clutch and shaft that engages a single lift fan at the front. This means that like the Harrier it has only a single jet engine, and like the Yak-141 it sits on two columns of thrust (one at the rear and one at the front), but overall it's quite a different lift design from either (and more efficient in some ways). When engaged, the lift fan effectively increases the bypass ratio and dry thrust of the single engine tremendously, and when disengaged it weighs less than a pair of additional engines, while the single engine returns to its fighter-optimized configuration (retaining more of its lift thrust for forward flight than the Yak-141). This lift/propulsion system seems to be unique and innovative, not a copy of the Yak-141's (or Yak-38's). The F-35B shares a few similarities with the Yak-141, to be sure, which is why Lockheed worked with Yakovlev to learn what they already knew from experience about flying and controlling a fighter that uses two thrust columns in STOVL/VTOL mode, but Lockheed did not copy the actual lift system design at all. Is this true, or did the Yak-141, contrary to my sources, actually have a single engine (instead of three total) coupled to a lift fan through a clutch and shaft?

You know Lockheed managed to come up with those different systems because they studied the plane and purchased Yak-141 data from Yakovlev. It is easier to say that this and that are different, but without access to the data in the first place Lockheed would have figured out what changes to make. Its insane that people are finding tiny differences to make a case for F-35 when a quick search can reveal to you that F-35 is based off of Yak-141 because Lockheed studied it and optimized it for their needs.

It was also a failure because it was a plane with effective range of ... 170km lol. Yak-41 (141) had pontential although it was just a prototype, never managed into service as program was cancelled. DNowlan1 none of that response is relevant to what i was saying. Im not a supporter of the f35 project. I absolutely agree that the concept of combining a stovl airframe is a total ball and chain. Terrible idea. Thats why i said i dont know if the pilots will like it. What i was talking about is the engineering achievement compared to the yak. Remember, the engineers didnt define the requirements. the government did. The government has mandated these disabilities into the design. The fact that the designers have been able to get this far with it is astounding to me for the reasons i outlined earlier. I work in engineering myself and i guess i appreciate that aspect. However i am with you in that it should never have been done in the first place. I think you could combine a navy/airforce jet. The f18 has done well in this respect. But the stovl has cut the legs off this jet.

For all the Russian/USA fan boys; first, Yakovlev developed the Yak-141 and basic systems. Then Yakovlev partnered WITH Lockheed to further develop the flight control laws and other systems. After that, Yakovlev cancelled their program and Lockheed purchased the design data they worked on together. Then with stealth knowledge from the F-22 Raptor program and VTOL data from the Yak-141 programs, Lockheed created the X-35 for the JSF program. Essentially both companies came up with the final YAK-141 design as we see it today. Look it up. Here's the Wiki article if you choose or not choose to believe it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakovlev_Yak-141 Here's the Wiki article on the X-35 with info on the Yak-141 program: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_X-35 In the end, Yakovlev didn't pursue the project and only about 2 aircraft were made. Then Lockheed picked up where they left off and developed the X-35 with prior F-22 knowledge. Pretty much the only thing similar between the YAK-141 and the X-35 are probably the basic control law algorithms for the flight controls. Besides that, the X-35 replaced the dual forward lift fans with a more efficient torque tube driven ducted lift fan that also reduced hot air ingestion during VTOL modes. Bam!

Yakovlev cooperated with lockheed only after the USSR collapsed. by then the plane was already made and flew. it is unfair to give credit to lockheed for the design when the only thing they did was get the Yak-141 into Farnborough Airshow in September 1992. there is no source for the claim that lockheed developed systems in the Yak-141. only thing they did was provide funds for the project and then buy off the technology once it collapsed
@masoodjalal1152
@masoodjalal1152 8 ай бұрын
Yak-141 flew before the Yakolev Collaborated with Lockheed, I doubt Yakolev Collaborated with Lockheed when USSR existed.(Yak 141 first flew in 1987). Sure you can say that they worked together for sometime, but it was in the later stages of the 90s. At the end lockheed ended up buying the data from Yakolev after they abandoned the program due to lack of funding. Yakolev only sold it because they needed money to continue running the bureau as funds were limited in Russia during the 90s. Its interesting that if a Russian plane had a wing shape that barely resembles a US plane, people jump in to call it a copy, but when Americans literally build their planes based on data collected from Yak-141 program, they come up with arguments to present it as something completely new. The F-35 is literally based on the Yak-141. Even if they went with different fan design, they did that because they had Yak data. The Yak-141 was the foundation on which the F-35 was built upon.

For low observability to Yak-141 radar swamps had been simply added plus two Yak's lift engines changed to XV-5 lifting fan to have at least something American F-35 into. All of that was made on demand by the same Yakovlev subcontracted by Lockheed and later by Yak engineers came to work for Lockheed for money and Greencard. After the job was done all but one were expelled from the US. :-) Technology handing over to Lockheed took 18 months and USD500,000 at the price less of Ferrari. 1 trillion taxpayer's money gone for smth else :-))) Previously British Harrier-2 was stolen like that for AV-8B by the same American team then worked for McDonald, came later to "work" for Lockheed....

Again -- the plans for this type of vtol were developed by Amercian aerospace engineers in the late 60s for a Convair airframe which never happened....the Soviets took the idea and built this airframe in the late 80s but as the Soviet Union collapsed, this program collapsed ----- at the same time Lockheed was beginning development of the 35B and gave money to 'Yak" to keep several aircraft flying for a little while in return for Lockheed having access to the flight data > no blueprints or airframes were bought by Lockheed. Obviously the biggest change to the vtol engine design was the replacement of the TWO vertical jet engines in the original (and YAK) airframes behind the cockpit with a lift-fan.

In a sense, this was Russia's BAC TSR-2 or Avro CF-105. Novel and promising design, impressive in all kinds of ways, could've done some amazing things down the road but was ultimately shelved and is now dead as a log because of many unfortunate circumstances. The history of aviation is full of examples of this very phenomenon. Long story short - that something does not get greenlighted and eventually fielded does not mean it's lackluster in any way.

Made: Yak 141 = 0, F35 ~2500, (500 in 2020) Yak was a prototype that Soviet/Russian engineers could never make it work (all footage is from testing), that is why it never saw anything more that testing, American engineers made F35 work and it is now being used around the world. Yak 141 needed 3 engines to work (3 times more fuel, space, maintenance, etc), F35 needs only 1 engine. Soviet Union and Russia never had a single vertical lift airplane in their history, only prototypes like Yak 141, USA has Harrier, F35, Bell V280, V-22 Osprey over 2000 built and operated in US Army, again Russian army has 0. Russia talks, USA does.
