I'm glad to see you fishing the great lakes. Up until recently we haven't seen many kayak fisherman out on the big lakes. It's guys like you that spark the interest, it is a bit risky out there I think. Compared to the warm ocean water and salt water buoyancy, hard to say what's more dangerous The warm ocean waters you have creatures that can eat you where is here in the great lakes, you'll die of hypothermia before getting eaten by a fish.

Yeah mi dnr doesn’t play around with fines. You got the non resident rate our in state rate pending the infraction is like 250 bucks but if you had any fish on board they take those and issue a fine that is larger. For hunting they sometimes seize the firearm or bow used and suspend your licenses for 5 or 10 years can’t remember but it depends upon severity like if you had multiple untagged deer

A friend of mine years ago was out fishing at a lake when a game warden came up... when the warden came up my friend was sitting on his truck having a drink- his fishing poles he had setup and cast out were down the bank a ways away. He did not have a licence so when the officer asked if he was fishing, he said no. The officer then went over to where the poles were and said "I hate it when people leave stuff behind" and picked up the fishing poles and tossed them out into the lake- told my friend to have a nice day and left. :)

I left early, and when I came out the trail, fish and wildlife was waiting for me 🙃 just like yours, they were really nice chatting you up but technically a trap for you to admit you’re fishing. Because I said yes to fishing and thank god I didn’t keep anything. I had my license so I was like cool no problem he’s just checking. NOPE while holding my licenses he’s like well buddy, you’re fishing in a protected area 💀💀💀 signage everywhere says don’t eat certain fish but not no fishing. And he’s like well you’re supposed to know....... mannnn dats a trap lol. “You’re supposed to know” 🤦♂️ 280 fine for me

That ticket was uncalled for. If you had a temp license(one day expired) you obviously weren't out poaching. A warning would have gotten the point across. A full ticket is taking advantage of their power. That takes the mission away from conservation and points it towards another avenue to take people's money.
