Best kayak fishing video I've ever seen! Awesome dude awesome! You are the man! How many gopros & batteries do you take?
@YakFishField9 жыл бұрын
+LightRockFishing Valladares I typically run five GoPros lately, but two are very situational shots like attached to my gaff or my paddle or something. For batteries I typically have about 3-4 spares on me per camera. That's all excessive though, I think the average videographer can get away with 2 or 3 cameras so they can get a few angles of each shot to keep the shot moving constantly.

I know not much is gonna compare to catching a sailfish on a kayak lol, but come up to Kentucky and catch some big flathead and blue catfish with us boys up here. One of the best, if not the best freshwater fight there is! You sure won't regret doing it!
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
I've fished Kentucky multiple times, usually Kentucky Lake or Barkley. I would love to get on a big catfish, that's one video I've never done. What's the best month for that?
@orionsmith98528 жыл бұрын
Robert Field they spawn around June, that's for flats an blues both. I've caught a lot of my fish from April up till they start to spawn then after they come off the nest until the water temp gets below 40 and stays there. When I buy my kayak this month it would be great for you to come up here and drift fish the Ohio river with me!

+Robert Field Thank you very much for replaying, for this type of fishing, do you use mono or bried?
@YakFishField9 жыл бұрын
+Richard Kayak Fishing 40 lb braid main line with a 6-foot 80 lb fluoro leader to a 3-foot 80 lb single strand wire leader for offshore fishing. Fluoro is optional but I think it matters when trolling if the water is clear like in south Florida. If the water isn't super clear, skip the mono and just go braid to wire.

Way to go! My 16 year old and I really enjoy your great videos. Lived down that way many years. Never gets old catching those fast, beautiful fish. We just got into the kayak universe, though, and truly appreciate your tips and advise. I do have a couple questions. Are some rod holders better than others, which do you prefer? What kind of radio do you prefer? Thanks
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
Awesome man! Those fish are definitely special. I like the Railblaza Rod Holder II. Get em at www.yak-gear.com As for radios, I haven't had a ton of luck keeping one alive for more than a year, haha. I've used Uniden and Cobra, and I think I preferred Uniden best. My advice would be either go cheap so you can afford to replace them, or go expensive so they hold up. I always do the former.

@YakFishField9 жыл бұрын
+Jose Ortega I use Manley Rods for small game (www.manleyrods.com) and Lews makes some great reels around $100 that are often on sale. I typically use 20lb FINS braid as my main line with a 15lb Seaguar fluoro leader for bass and stuff like that.

"Another damn bonita". Those are a prized catch up here in New England.
@YakFishField9 жыл бұрын
+RIYakFishing I think you're thinking of bonitO, not bonitA. They're two different fish. Bonito are good eating, bonita are very bloody and only used for bait that I know of. Bonita is also called false albacore, bonito are atlantic bonito.
@RIYakFishing9 жыл бұрын
We get BonitA AKA false albacore up here in New England for about 2 months a year and they are HIGHLY sought after. They are not good eating and most anglers will release them. But, false albacore is definitely not a junk fish up here. BonitO, or Atlantic Green Bonito are also a highly sought after catch up here. They come around the same time as False Albacore and are VERY good eating.

What kind of two way radio are you using? Also, what is the make and model of your red reel and rod and what pound line? sorry for all the questions but I'm new to fishing and even newer to Kayak fishing.
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
+Jerome Cipriani it's a VHF radio by Uniden. That's what you want for offshore - a VHF - so you can call the coast guard. The red rod is a custom, the red reel is a Truth Reels SG and it is awesome. I'm using 40 pound braid as my main line with a 65 lb fluoro leader to a 61lb wire leader for these fish.

Great production! I just got my True SG reel one this vídeos was one of the reasons I buy it, just a question did you fight the sail fish on pre set strike drag or did you go full on it? Thank you!
@YakFishField8 жыл бұрын
+Juan Carlos Perez I didn't go full on it, with big fish I like to leave it looser so they can run when they want to, and then I thumb it when I want to put some pressure on them or pull them up to the surface near the boat. I'd rather have a slightly longer fight than risk losing the fish.
