I have always had trouble with tangled lines in the kayak. That can be a pain, but also pretty dangerous at times. I really liked the looks of this as soon as YakGadget rolled them out, and have been pretty pleased so far!

Came across your video. First, great little run-down! Second, your demeanor an light hearted humor made me smile. (needed that..) Thanks and tight lines.

I read through some comments and noticed you use a 2 lb mushroom anchor and want a 3 lb. Since then have you tried anything heavier? I have a 6 lb anchor (Da Bomb Anchor, wrecking ball) because of the non-snag style that I would love to try with this. Thanks for the video!

Do you know about how many feet of anchor line it can hold, assuming anchor line is 1/8"?
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne3 жыл бұрын
brock, i'd say 75 feet if not more, this is paracord and almost a full bolt. most of my places are 25feet or less so i didn't put the whole piece on it, probably about 40 feet and there is plenty of room left.

@@ChrisFunktheFeralOne Thank you. I use paracord also. and generally anchor in < 30'. definitely getting one.

Great video. I have an Anchor Wizard and love the line management, but here is the problem. I use a 6lb downrigger ball for an anchor with the line running through my anchor trolley as you do. Sometimes, I guess because of a muddy bottom, the AW does not retrieve the anchor when I turn the handle. Similar to trying to reel in a big fish with the drag set too loose. It looks like the Sidewinder wouldn’t have that problem with the way it’s designed. What do you think? Thanks.
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne3 жыл бұрын
you are right in that there is no drag slippage like there can be on the wizard, but truthfully a 6 lb rig may be a handful cranking up on this with the small crank. i changed from a 5lb mushroom to this smaller home made job that is probably 2lbs and it does great. i'd love to find some 3lb mushroom anchors!

So glad I found your channel. Subscribed right away. Great information on lots of different uncovered topics. Dude, you think you are old (reading glasses video). Just bought an Old Town predator at age 71.

Wonder how well It'd pair with the yakgadget power pole?

Do you have it rigged up somehow that you can quickly dump your anchor if it either gets stuck on the bottom or if you would have to get away from your anchor quickly in an emergency?
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne Жыл бұрын
i do not, in an emergency i will go to the knife! i can buy another anchor if needed.

Looks like winding the line back in is pretty hard to do and clumsy. It could use a larger handle for winding it back up. It does get rid of the clutch that anchor wizard uses, for better or worse.
@killough71010 Жыл бұрын
They did update the knob to a much bigger cylindrical one. It's a bigger knob than the anchor wizard has now.

Howdy Chris...great video. Really like how Yakgadget is willing to think outside the box and bring some competition in the accesory market. Thoughts on pros and cons on this vs the Anchor Wizard?
@dp4auburn3 жыл бұрын
Was about to ask that same thing. Seems like the anchor wizard would be preferable due to keeping the rope enclosed but I may be wrong
@kayplainsdrifter1363 жыл бұрын
@@dp4auburn Right. I'm a big fan of the anchor wizard for that reason. The one-handed operation seems a little easier on the anchor wizard as well
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne3 жыл бұрын
The anchor wizard does have the edge as far as ease of lifting a load like when i was running the anchor out of the tail chute on the kayak. The crank on the Yakgadget is a bit small, but lifts my smaller anchor well and freewheels easy enough to use well with the anchor trolley. Next time i am out i need to do a side by side i guess! I don't think you can go wrong with either!
@kayplainsdrifter1363 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisFunktheFeralOne I might look at this as an option for a front anchor setup. Although since I've gotten the Bite FD, I've found myself not using an anchor very much at all.

@@kayplainsdrifter136 sounds good! I do know that the anchor wizards have been very hard to come by lately, but these are in stock and got to the house in about 3 days!

Hey Chris..I was looking at one of these and the Yak Attack sidewinder for my Old Town Sportsman PDL 106. Is it necessary to have the trolley system or can you just use the sidewinder with say a 3 lb anchor?
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne2 жыл бұрын
you do not have to have the trolley, it just makes it a tad more versatile!
@stevepolley46282 жыл бұрын
What length track did you have to add to accommodate the footprint of the sidewinder?
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne2 жыл бұрын
there was already a piece of track on my liska by the seat steve, i just added a 6" one to catch the back end and allow me to angle it outwards towards my anchor trolley. if you were just adding one piece, i believe 8 or 10 inches would be perfect.
