Yakima Q-Tower Roof Rack Parts List (Q99 / Q128 Clips) Info Install / Review (Scion tC2 / tC2.5)

I found used towers, clips, and crossbars and put together my own Yakima roof rack. Here's all the info you need if you want the discontinued Yakima Q-Tower rack for your 2011-2016 Scion tC. Most of the parts can be still be bought new. The Q99 clips were sold out at one point, but I've seen them re-appear back in stock on Amazon. Rack Attack is worth checking out as they randomly get parts in stock.
Note: An owner said they were able to use Q99 clips in place of the Q128's for the rear. If you do this, then you cannot use the shorter 48" crossbars as you will need to space the towers apart further. Also, you will not be able to open your moonroof without moving the rear rack forward more since the rear crossbar will sit lower.

Does anyone have any suggestions about taking this same exact setup through a automated car wash? I take the wind guard off to avoid damage but would the bars hold up?

I have gone through automated touchless car washes with my setup and fairing installed without any issues.

Would a 44" Fairing be long enough for 48" bars ?? I found a 44" super cheap but I don't want to buy it if it's too short.

I think it should work. I'm using 46" on my car if that helps.

What roof box or roof basket can you use on the tc ? I recently ordered and found all the parts in this video I plan on transporting a bike occasionally but would also like something to store stuff like lumber, tables chairs, luggage, camping gear, etc.

Any that are compatible with the round bars will work. The listed overall weight limit per Yakima is 100 lbs.

@Cesar Castillo certain ones will. I don't know what works best for the 1st gen though. I would stick with Yakima if possible.

Yes, by a lot. It's still expensive, but it's worth it for the noise reduction.

How much weight can this hold?

I carried around two 6 ft tables, seven 6 ft gridwalls, two folding chairs, a small folding hand truck, a 10x10 pop-up canopy tent, and two 6 ft PVC poles on mine on a regular basis. I don't recall the exact rated weight, but I can look that up later this weekend.

what pads go with the q99 clips? i have clips but not the pads, yakima says E pads for q99 but they seem too big

I would stick with what Yakima says. I have a copy of their base pad reference guide and it says A for Q128 and E for Q99.

thank you for the quick response, the pads i received with the q128 have a #5 on the bottom and look much different in structure and sturdiness than the E pads i bought for the q99, are the #5 pads meant for the baseline rack?

@@gspot2343 uhg, that sucks. I don't know why the current BaseLine towers don't "fit" the 2nd gen tC, but I discussed it with Yakima support over the phone and they said they just couldn't get it to work. It's such a tease to see they have them for the 1st gens.

Someone on Facebook had them for sale. Just hop on the tC for sale groups and ask around. Otherwise, I do have a video for a universal rack at kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpamgqBjmctjacU. I used a universal rack to carry tables and wire racks on a weekly basis. They just require more effort to get them secured properly.

Thanks man but from what research I’ve done I think they have a system out now that will fit virtually any car out there. It replaced whatever replaced the q clips system. I can’t think of it if the top of my head but if I did some digging I could tell you. I’ll see if I can’t figure out what it’s called. I’m just really busy at work right now so might not get back to ya for a while.
