Ah, Yakuza 2: Everyone's Secretly Korean. This was my first real taste of the glorious Dragon Engine outside of 7, and it was a riot! I kicked someone into a restaurant window, and the whole thing shattered! This blew my mind the first time it happened, as 0 and K1 were more static. I liked how goofy the XP grind was. Man, who knew Kiryu could pack away that much food that quickly? Ryuji would've made a great rival to Kiryu, a Vegeta to Kiryu's Goku. Sadly, that never happened. Even if RGG did bring Ryuji back, Kiryu doesn't seem to be long for this world.

I actually played Yazkua in the order of these videos myself. Spoilers Ahead: When I got to the Majima sections I was confused about who the lady was. Yet I was so focused on how Majima felt and his actions I kinda pushed aside the story. All I knew was that Majima cared for this woman a lot and it actually made me tear up at the ending. How she finally got her closure. When I played through 0 I had forgotten all about the Majima sections in Kiwami 2 and felt surprised and all that emotion once more with Majima's story. It was impactful and the reason I love these games.

Not likely as her leaving is tied to her voice actress effectively being blacklisted from RGG for kinda being......well....to put it politely, massively unpleasant and incredibly rude to the studio. In Japan, characters and their voice actors are intrinsically linked. If a VA dies, their characters go too. If a VA is black listed, the character disappears more often than not.

I am only making this comparison because another review for these 2 games came out while i was watching yours, but its crazy how different the viewpoint is between a person who played Yakuza 2 first, and who played Kiwami 2 first. The former person i mentioned had so much hate they wanted to express about Yakuza Kiwami 2, whereas you had nearly nothing but positive remarks for both titles. Although positivity isnt a virtue in-and-of itself, and negative statements can be warranted, i think your viewpoint on the 2 was much more refreshing and that you did a better job viewing, engaging with, and explaining the different content. Thanks for this vid, son.

Thanks! I wanted to give that exact perspective, because most of the videos I see are from people who played the originals first and my experience was very different.

@@YourFavoriteSon1 i appreciate that you decided to do that! And am happy i noticed it. I noticed so much hate for the dragon engine combat and upgrade mechanics from other people, but whole heartedly agree with your take. The upgrade system encourages the player to really explore and engage with the game world, which i think is good game design and find fun personally, and to my memory the combat feels engaging! Thanks again

I wasn't the biggest fan of Kiwami 2's combat, even less so for 6's. They definitely got better with it, from Judgement to Y7 and then Lost Judgement. It was the ragdolling that made me dislike it. I think once on Y6 I was knocked to the ground constantly for about 30 seconds.

Have watched this and the video you made for (Kiwami) 1, definitely going to be watching the rest on pace with my progression through each game! The only complaint I have through either video is that I wish you hadn't said the Jingweon would be relevant in multiple games, as it isnt abundantly clear from Kiwami 2 that there would be more to see of them, its left rather ambiguous. Thats something I'd have liked to find out myself through playing the later installments, but maybe that's on me for watching these without having played them all.

The Yakuza Series so far has always made me emotional, and sometimes even tear up a bit. Mainly it makes so you attached to Kiryu, and all you want is the world for the guy. I still need to play Yakuza 3-5, so far my favorite game combat wise is tied between Kiwami 2 and 6 just due to the combat feeling so fluid, but Kiwami and 0 are the best power fantasy experience from the multiple fighting styles, but story wise it's Kiwami and Kiwami 2, because for Kiwami it's probably the most emotional ending in Yakuza, and both all around a great experience. I know this video is 8 months old, but, have you considered doing videos on the spin-offs?. From what I heard Lost Souls is a really fun spin off and The Kurohyō series I've heard is a must try if your able. For those who want more Yakuza/Like a Dragon should give Streets of Kamurocho a try, a 2D side-scroller beat em' up resembling Streets of Rage. It's a fun little freeware game for Windows released as a part of SEGA's 60th anniversary celebration. Sadly only way to get this game now is through the Steam Database because it was a free limited-time promotion for 7 days during 2020 (4 days during Oct. and 3 days during Nov.).

The amount of problems that are caused by Kiryu "taking responsibility" instead of just using his head... Instead of taking the blame for Dojima's death, the Nishikiyana would have gone to prison instead and Kiriyu would have been able to look after Yumi. The same goes for Kiriyu in Yakuza 0. How many games until Kiriyu wakes up?

Let this video be a testament to the recent hate that the new Yakuza fandom has been giving to this game: real ones *loved* this game, this and 5 - despite their current reputations - were two massive fan favorites up until something shifted recently. My guess is it’s similar to what happened with Monster Hunter on a smaller scale: dedicated cult fandom had their favorites, an influx of new fans come along and all of them have a different touchstone for what they love about the series and the “majority opinion” on favorites is now shifted because of how the displaced ratio of new to old fans. Nothing wrong with that, not gatekeeping or anything. I just think it’s sad how many people seem to hate this game now when I *know* and *remember* how the fandom used to adore this game, as a majority take.
