Honestly after I played Kiwami 2 I took a long break from the series. Both because I like to imagine an ending where Kiryu, Haruka, and Kaoru live happily together with no new game shenanigans, and because I knew 3 was going to be way more rough to play compared to the Kiwami/0 games.

2:06:45 Osaka Castle is a real location, too. It's is _so_ extra that it just comes ungrounded entirely. Every time they do something similar in later games they back off on the ridiculousness, but that often makes them feel _less_ realistic because when it's something that feels like it could plausibly actually be built you then have to work through just how expensive and impractical it would be, whereas the secret golden Osaka Castle is immune.

This gets better in the later games, there's generally a whole chapter, usually about 30 minutes or more, that just explains the plot in very simple terms. It took a page out of kojima's book

Playing these games in release order is such a different experience than playing in chronological order, that there's some things that you can miss playing the ladder. I will never forget the sense of finality and melancholy playing the last couple hours of Kiwami 2 after Yakuza 6.

Chase, bless your heart, but surely putting the video game voice actor side quest in the middle of painstakingly going through each step of a scavenger hunt main story filler arc is not the best way to keep the momentum going 😂 the side quests are very fun and necessary to balance the tone of these wild games, but ya gotta put your director's cap on and ask yourself if putting a speed bump after a traffic jam is gonna slow the pacing down to a halt, mate 😂 I love y'all dearly but I'm worried that Moonty is going to heat action you with a baby stroller at the end of this bit.
