This marks the end of the story related videos, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you've enjoyed my performance throughout the English version of Kiwami, but this is not the end yet. I will be uploading more videos such as substories or Majima videos, so stay tuned for that!
Also, it seemed they fixed Yumi's invisible bottom half glitch in that particular QTE.

The original game in one cutscene in exposition did say Nishiki lost everything he cared about surprisingly quick once Kiryu went to prison, his sister's death being what broke him into becoming such a ruthless bastard. But agreed in that I just couldn't feel sympathetic since Nishiki in the PS2 game always felt moreso a depressed dude with a lot of envy towards Kiryu that he just doesn't give the former best friend vibe. Think like Shin in Fist of the North Star...How was that guy Kenshiro's best friend prior to the post apocalypse when he betrays Ken so easily? ...Zero definitely made me reevaluate Nishiki and the backstory in Kiwami was depressing. I ended up caring for Nishiki and now felt awful he shares the same trait Kiryu has that life constantly punches you in the balls (otherwise, Kiryu would long be happy in retirement and wouldn't be in sequels) but lacks the willpower to tough it out like Kiryu does.

Funnily, the same rings true the other way too. If you've played all the other games and then play Y0 (like me), some fights feel bad as well, like when you have to beat up Sera and Kashiwagi (ESPECIALLY that one) as Majima. It's not on the same level as fighting Nishiki after Y0 though.

This fight hurt a lot. I hated him for what he did to Kazama and Reina but at the same time I couldn't shake the thought that this was the guy who cried when he was about to kill Kiryu in the woods. The guy who stopped Kiryu from crossing that line. This is how you build a villain. Hateable but still loveable.

I think the most painful part is that you just _know_ he's a good person deep down. (At least from his point of view) he was just neglected or abanoned by almost everyone he ever cared about. The girl he liked disappeared without a trace, his brother was in prison for a crime he didn't even commit, his sister was on the verge of dying and the man he saw as his father refused to help him out. He tried everything he could to save his sister, even going so far as to bow down to his own subordinates, only for the doctor he collected the money for to backstab him and skip town, which lead to his sister dying. And then, while he was still in the process of mourning her death and was _literally about to take his own life,_ one of his subordinates comes in and shamelessly mocks him for it. I'm pretty sure thats enough to make even the kindest person snap. And what did he do to deserve all that? He saved the girl he liked from getting raped right in front of him and refused to stand by idly while his sister was dying. And I think that's the most tragic part. In a different world, where he wasn't forced to shoot Dojima, none of this would've ever happened. He did some terrible things, don't get me wrong, but you just can't help but feel sorry for him. He was a kind man in a world full of terrible people. And after all the shit he had to go through, I'm pretty sure anyone would've snapped.

He sometimes called Kazuma Kiryu because it’s a translation, and the rest of the world doesn’t actually say their family name first. If you want evidence then look for Kiryu’s nickname in the pocket circuit world, “Kazuma-kun” to inisuate closeness and casualness.

@@The-Furry-Slayer What do you mean? When you say "Except for Kiryu" are you saying Kiryu is at fault for everything that happened? If so, how? Kiryu has done nothing except support Nishiki. Kiryu literally went to jail for 10 years for him.
@The-Furry-Slayer
@The-Furry-Slayer Жыл бұрын
@@Rocky-oq9cy that's what I mean, the pressure of "being Kiryu" fell on Akira's shoulders, if you remember, in the kiwami cinematics it looks like because of the lack of Kiryu and the weight of being as good as him (reaching a sick point where the patriarchs wanted him to be identical to Kiryu) was what made him fall apart more than once. Now, if Kiryu hadn't been in prison (because it's true, he went to prison for the murder that nishikiyama caused) he could have been Nishiki's pillar and support as a brother always is. That is my point, knowing Kiryu we know that he would not mind refuting in front of his high command in order to help his brother, with those actions and attitudes, simply and simply Nishiki would have had no reason to become cruel and evil, although if we wanted to give a point to the plot, perhaps he would talk with Kiryu about the possibility of getting riches and power on his own. If it involved Kiryu, maybe he wouldn't accept and would start a certain personal conflict with him. We also have the love conflicts that are already mentioned in the series, so there would be another reason Although to be honest, not as good as him at becoming apathetic because he's tired of being constantly compared to others and expecting him to be someone else that he simply isn't. Well that would be my point friend.

It was the reverse in the original, I think it’s more meaningful here. Dragon’s red aura is pointed out by Majima if you finish all of his stuff, as if it represents the fire inside Kiryu. Whereas the red aura on Nishiki in the original might’ve been the red koi on his back reaching the gate atop the yellow river and becoming a dragon, it being blue here shows that he’s anything but, and this path he’s chosen is what’s keeping him from becoming the dragon

Reason for that is that RGG had no idea the game would turn into a franchise in Yakuza 1. They genuinely thought it would be a one and done deal. Game sold like crazy and Sega begged them to do a sequel. Rest is history. If you notice they were more careful with the characters that lived (Date, the stardust guys, Majima) after Yakuza 1. Toshihiro Nagoshi is actually on record stating that had he known the game would turn into a franchise he would not have killed as much characters in Y1. He would have given Nishki a redemption arc and kept Kazuma around for a few games.

Interesting to note, the guy with the cardboard is the same guy at the beginning of the game. And I think Nishiki shooting the bomb was for two reasons, one: it gives him the control of his life he's been craving, and two: he took the shot that landed his bro in prison all those years ago. To be fair, eventually somebody was going to have to acknowledge Kiryu in Nishiki's presence. If it wasn't her, it'd have been somebody else. And you could make an argument it's about the timing, but let's be real -- what are the odds that there will ever be a time that any comparison to Kiryu wouldn't set him off? If he lived to a ripe old age he'd be on his deathbed, senile and half-deaf, and someone would say something he'd mishear as "Kazuma" and he'd start frothing.

I think Yakuza 0 and the Nishiki flashbacks sprinkled throughout the game really helped with this fight. Because I can't imagine Nishiki being that impactful to the player in the original game, other than "big bad boss" guy. Even if the game told me that he was Kiryu's best friend, their interactions in the entire game were so limited and it was always Nishiki just being a colossal dick that I would've found it hard to believe that this was Kiryu's friend (because the flashbacks and 0 didn't exist then). He also barely shows up, he showed up in the actual present day for like maybe 5-6 times? Other than that, it was still a sick-ass fight.

The thing is, he redeemed himself by destroying the 10 billion alongside Jingu and himself. I don't remember his last line as he shot the bomb, but I remember that the correct interpretation (or somewhat correct) of what he's saying is, "I know I've done some very shitty things over the past 10 years, so please let me do one last honorable thing."

I couldn't agree more. I mean, I got into the series through Kiwami because I wanted to start the franchise where all the other long-runners started it, and while I am grateful it gave me a dose of Majima in all his unadulterated, insane glory with no context or explanation for it, a part of me seriously wishes I started with 0 just to give Nishiki's descent into villainy here more impact for me. Not to say that the flashbacks through Kiwami didn't make me feel and sympathize for the guy, because they certainly did when you take a step back and look at everything he was put through with no break. Not only did he inherit a job that was clearly originally meant for his best friend, one he himself was far more eager to attain, but he has to deal with his sister's failing health, his subordinates clear lack of respect for him, the fact that *everyone,* from said subordinates to his father figures, kept constantly comparing him as inferior to Kiryu, and the fact that Kiryu keeps getting constant hype and respect for Dojima's murder. It was clear to see that all that bubbling resentment of Kiryu and everyone else boiled over and caused him to snap when he got unknowingly screwed out of the one way of saving his sister's life. But while I won't deny the flashbacks shown throughout Kiwami made me sympathize with Nishiki, I could never truly feel bad for him because, despite what he went through, he still betrayed Kiryu and his morals after he sacrificed 10 years of his life to cover for what he did. But when I played 0, it genuinely hurt to see him and Kiryu paling around so happily and seeing him just have his back the entire way through the game with the knowledge of how their relationship was going to end. If I played 0 and went into Kiwami with no knowledge that Nishiki was going to be a major antagonist and final boss, then I have no doubt my heart would've been broken by what he became and what drove him to this, especially with how somber 'For Who's Sake' is and with those flashbacks littered throughout the fight. Honestly though, I can't imagine any people who played 1 back when it was first released felt all that bad for Nishiki, because, like you said before, everything that made us sympathize with him, such as his friendship with Kiryu in 0 and the flashbacks showing what drove him to villainy, were nonexistent in the original release.

14:36 At the very end Nishiki says to Kiryu "Let me do this." He is ASKING Kiryu. Not telling. He has spent his whole life being overshadowed by Kiryu, The Dragon of Dojima. Right here he is begging Kiryu to let him be the one making the decision. All he ever wanted was to be recognized as his own person. Not just "Kiryu's brother" In that moment he was finally in charge. He died as the one who stole the 10 billion right under the Yakuza's noses and decided they didn't deserve it. He spread the 10 Billion across Kamurocho, benefiting the area greatly.

What hurts most is, throughout the entire fight Kiryu doesn't hate Nishiki. He resents his actions, sure, but if you pause the game during the fight it even shows his thoughts are "Nishiki... It's time to end this, brother." He even thinks about him as his kyodai whole they're actively fighting. Then, when Nishiki is about to sacrifice himself, he begs him not to do it. It's just so sad to see Kiryu desperately try to bring Nishiki back from the brink and fail.

The story of Nishikiyama is quite a sad one, to see a man brought down by his insecurities to such a low level that he had little trouble killing those he once called his closest friends, all in the effort to gain the recognition that he felt he deserved and break out from under Kiryu's shadow. But everyone just told him the same thing. "You're not Kiryu" Even Yumi does it just in the cutscene prior, once again pretty much saying he isn't like Kiryu and throwing it in his face. And yet Kazama still gave him a family knowing they wouldn't respect him, watched as Nishiki kept going down that dark path without saying a word but when Kiryu was in trouble that same man broke his back from prison to make sure his pet project was kept safe. Went out of his way to make sure Kiryu was kept safe and didn't lift a finger to make sure Nishiki would be okay, no he threw him in the deep end and shrugged his shoulders when he drowned.
@Publicenemy85
@Publicenemy85 11 ай бұрын
All very good points. AT THE SAME TIME THOUGH, you can also make the argument that Kazama knew Nishki wasn’t honest with him. Kazama and Sera KNEW the story with Dojima’s death wasn’t adding up. This is somewhat demonstrated that they simply banished Kiryu and didn’t expel him after killing a Tojo captain. Kazama knew that no matter how things get heated, Kiryu NEVER kills. He might have been disappointed how Nishki (the only person to walk out of the ordeal scot free) wasn’t being honest with him. Nishki could have revealed all that had happened to Kazama, but he didn’t. Further more, Kazama is an old school Yakuza who is somewhat honor bound. He probably thought letting another man take the fall for your mistake is a colossal dick thing to do. The game HINTS that Kazama had an idea what happened all along, he just needed the confirmation when he was helping Yumi. While you can also say Kazama put Nishki in a family that didn’t respect him, I also viewed that as a TEST to Nishki. Make them respect you while remaining honor bound. Nishki failed that test. Had Nishki come clean to Kazama about all this and took the fall for the matter, THEN you’d see Kazama step in to help him. My two cents anyway. Love these Yakuza discussions.

letting Nishiki heal to used as many heat actions, using moves from 3 styles, not spamming tiger drop or any same combo and heat action, used the Dragon of Dojima Kiwami heat action at the last heal of Nishiki, and Tiger drop at last in order to finish the fight with movie qte, nearly perfect gameplay.

I felt bad for Nishiki. After Kiryu got locked up he went through hell. With the family that he was supposed to run yet the boys they gave him didn't respect him at all, then, with the captains and Reina all saying they wished Kiryu was still there right in front of his face like he wasn't even there, and the thing that pushed him over the edge was when that doctor screwed him over for money to "save" his sister but, used the money to settle his debt with the yakuza so he basically got back the same money he gave to the doctor for his sister and the doctor skipped town in an instant and when she died that was the last straw and he went over to the dark side never to return. I feel for him honestly that would've been too much for any many to keep together.

I played yakuza kiwami 1 first and I already felt bad about this fight between kiryu and nishiki and I was in tears about the ending of this game. It was bittersweet. Then along comes yakuza 0 and makes all those feelings come back. I never hated nishiki. I just felt terribly sorry for him. Those 10 years broke him badly.

This fight is heartbreaking. I couldn't, and still can't, enjoy the celebratory hug/confession/family reunion at 10:11 because of how sad I was for Nishiki. He lost everything, everyone, even himself, and as he agonizes on the floor, once more defeated by the beloved brother whose shadow he lived in his entire life, he has to see and listen to the woman he loved, well, love on the man he could never compare to.

My favorite part about this fight is that up to this moment Kiryu does not want to fight Nishki. He only wants to know why he did what he did and how could he turn out like this. And once his old friend tells him everything he needs to know, Kazuma is like “Alright...take that jacket off. I’m not getting blood on it”

I was introduced to yakuza through 0 And it really bugs the crap out of me that such a strong character turned to the dark side. And as we see his flashbacks we understand him thoroughly and keep wishing him to snap out of it. I was really counting on this fight, kiryu did manage to set him straight, but it was too late. Ah the tears😭😭😭
