Didn't know this fight was coming after Yuya's boss battle, triggered it without healing in between (had no health items either), survived with a literal sliver of health. I was living in genuine fear as I ran over to the nearest restaurant to heal up in case Majima ambushed me on the way over.

As far as I know, there's only one Majima Everywhere encounter you can activate that early in the game. You get it by going to Poppo and ordering a bento. I remember when in my first or second playthrough, I activated it completely by accident.

If you mean the main character, than yep, it's the same person. He is also the protagonist (or one of several) in all the other Yakuza games, apart from Yakuza 7.
