It's a cover. And the original was a hit too. Ian Hunter's debut album after he left Mott the Hoople featured this one that he wrote in 75. The phrase is as old as Aesop's fables, and was definitely "once bitten, twice shy" because the fable it's from was about a wolf and a dog. In this song, it's about a female with monogamy challenges.

I told you on the last GW video “Rock Me” how I loved this band and still do. This was my band to listen to as a young teenager coming up. Everyone had Guns-n-Roses, Motley Crüe, Poison etc but these were my guys. Don’t get me wrong I loved all those I mentioned and more others but these guys hit for me for some reason. I went and found my old GW CASSETTE TAPE that I wore out because I would listen to it over and over flipping the sides as it finished. I do hate the tragedy that happened with them and scarred their name. It’s truly sad and heartbreaking. Thank you guys for getting back to them this soon. If you want more great suggestions from them try “Mista Bone”. “The Angel Song”. “House of Broken Love”. “Hiway Nights”. “Baby’s on Fire”. Those are all from the Once Bitten record. I recently bought a basically greatest hits of GW which they do covers of songs like “Hard to Handle” which you ironically covered. “Stairway to Heaven”. “Immigrant Song” “Kickstart my Heart” and many others. If you want to jump genres another band I love is Little Texas whom is country. They have some great hits as well like “What might have been” and “God Blessed Texas” to help kick y’all off.

I was a little Metal kid recording videos onto VHS tapes back when this was brand new. I saw Great White with Mr Big and Scorpions in 1991 and it was a great show for a variety of reasons, but I was already a big fan of Great White by then. One day, in 95, I was a young man working in the Toys/Sporting Goods/Outdoor Living sections of Shopko and saw some guys buying "swimming gear" in my department that looked familiar. A couple of guys from Great White and some roadies gearing up for some lake time before playing a local show! I hooked em up with the gear and helped them out to their bus. The two band members hung back a bit and asked me if I could score some weed. I could. I went and grabbed them a quarter of weed (65 bucks) and brought it back to where the Tour Bus was still parked and delivered it. The guys couldnt have been more disappointed in the weed I brought and almost tried to haggle me down on the price because it was so bad (all you could get in 95 in that area). Either way, that was my story about the one time I was ever on a tour bus. I wish it had a better ending, but at least I didnt get crabs/pregnant.

PS - Great White never did show up to that local show. They were in town early...got pool floaties and swimming gear (and weed)...and never played at the show a couple of nights later. Never heard why they pulled out after already being there (early even).

@Zippy Knowitall I used to buy my girlfriend's tickets as well. You mentioned thickets are $150 now. I'm glad they've gone down some, but I remember when big acts like Madonna started charging $400 to see her at the L.A.Convention Center. I think that included acts like Michael Jackson, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac.....and this is all long after their heyday. I never paid stupid prices like that. So, while I'm glad prices have come down a little, I'm not interested in watching 60-80 year old rock stars. I did enjoy them in the 80's and early 90's. I would've loved to have seen them in the 70's. The 70's had the best music in my humble opinion.

@patriciastauffer32782 жыл бұрын
A couple of things: First excellent vid/reaction. Next; Ian Hunter wrote this song. (he was from Great Briton) at one time it was common for boys there to show their affection for their girl friends by having a picture of her on their jacket. This is why the line, "until I saw your picture on another guy's jacket", makes sense. Third: "Once Bitten Twice Shy", was a kind of warning and explanation as to why you should not (or no longer) pet stray dogs. It extends to other life lessons as well. You really owe it to yourselves to listen to Ian Hunter sing this with Mick Ronson on guitar. It is a little more raw and arguably less polished But Ian's voice puts it over the top. I think he may have done it with "Mott the Hoople", but he definitely did it with "The Ian Hunter Band"

I have to be honest. Being a big Mott The Hoople and Ian Hunter fan, I never really cared for this version. Ian Hunter has written some great lyrics in his time and now in his 70's he's still doing it. I will admit that the Hoople may be a bit of an acquired taste overall, but they have influenced a lot of bands over the years and have a lot of cool songs. Ian's version is the "creme de la creme". "All The Way From Memphis" is a cool tune about a lost guitar which was based on a true incident and features some funky lyrics describing it and was covered by Contraband and is actually a decent heavier cover of that song.

Because we were stuck out there my wife missed work and had to fill in for people that covered for her. Speaking of Him its got to be time for some more SRV! We recommend Life Without You, Live at the Capital Theater 1985. Slower song with some of his best singing, a wonderful message needed now more than ever. He plays the guitar every which way possible with a bit of dentistry and I’m not even telling you about the good parts It’s our favorite performance and I’m almost 99% sure it will be yours also.

This was actually a cover. Original by Ian Hunter (ex- Mott the Hoople). It became great White's biggest song. Their House of Broken Love was pretty good too.

The Ian Hunter version is better especially with Mick Ronson on guitar: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6bQY6GcndB0oLs One of the best guitarists ever, definitely the best Glam Rock guitarists. His guitar work with Bowie produced some of the best rock ever. Check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWjZpIKFgNuBi6M

This is a cover of a song written and recorded by former Mott the Hoople frontman, Ian Hunter. (With David Bowie's lead guitarist, Mick Ronson). The Ian Hunter original is better, but good for Great White to record it and make it a hit.

I was glad for Ian that they covered it. I would guess he benefitted financially more from that than anything he ever did as a performer...

@@jonathanlocke6404 Kind of like when Barry Manilow covered "Ships." When you get covered by Barry Manilow, Great White, and Shaun Cassidy, you clearly are writing great songs that have something for everyone.

I think you should do “primal scream” from Motley Crue. It’s raw, dirty and is heavy in bass and drums

Can’t listen to Great White without thinking of their performance at the 2003 nightclub fire that killed 100 people. Also makes me think of White Lion.

Deric I have that same issue. I was supposed to be at that show, but being a musician myself my band at that time got a last minute gig and I wasn't able to go, thankfully but I do know people who were there and I thank God they did get out but a couple had injuries. I also have played at a few fund raisers for survivers who needed money for medical bills and for other reasons.

This was first done by Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson back in 1975. Their version blows this version away.

I have to agree...Ive wanted them to go down thr MB20 and Rob Thomas rabbit hole. Thus far only 2 songs. You all will love any live version of Bright lights...and Im telling you you gotta react to "Street Corner Symphony'" which is Rob Thomas solo.

I personally like their Led Zeppelin cover album Great Zeppelin. Also, the girl that's wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans is Bobbie Brown she's signing back ground supposedly. Is also know as Warrant's "Cherry Pie" girl.

You've been hittin' my 80's teenage feels lately. I'm a recent subscriber so I have to check out your past reactions to see if you've already done certain songs, but if on an 80's rabbit hole, I'd love to see more! Maybe the top one hit wonders of the 80's - some great songs in there.
