The great thing about the 80’s is that (as you noticed) the videos became like mini movies. They were awesome! We would sit and watch for hours! But sadly they got to be too expensive to produce and videos became more DIY and lost some viewers and thus the decline in MTV playing music videos 24/7. It became cheaper to produce the reality shows and talk shows so they began the switch. I miss my MTV!

Also, some of the bands you mention merely confirm what I said. Motley Crue - utter crap. The Cult were one of the most cliched, generic and derivative bands I've ever heard - almost as bad as Billy Idol. After their 'Love' album they went downhill. U2 were overrated. Dio was better when he was in a band such as Black Sabbath or Rainbow. Whitesnake were good in their early days - they reminded me of Free - but then they went all poser crap. Dokken ? Snigger. Iron Maiden ? Nah, pish. Bon Jovi - just pop rock, nothing of any musical worth. Now gimme, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, David Bowie (excluding his 'Phil Collins' period in the mid 80's), Miles Davis, Vaughan Williams, Cream, Queen, Alex Harvey Band, Yes, The White Stripes, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper (first half of the 70's), The Rolling Stones (the first 10 years), Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), Rainbow (Ronnie James Dio era), Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era), Rammstein, Rush, The Who and many more I could mention. Only the guitar player with the bow , Adrian Vandenberg didn't even play on the album.... You talk about how the singers could hit those high notes, Two songs you need to listen to, "I'll Never Let You Go" by Steelheart and "When I'm with You" by Sheriff. There was never an official video made for the Sheriff song. As far as I can find, the only video for it is where someone dubbed the original recording over a live performance, so the action on the screen doesn't always match exactly the sound, really easy to spot when he hit "that note" (you'll know it when you hear it) and on the video he has to stop to take a breath, that isn't there in the audio. But it's the vocals, not the video that make both songs worth checking out. If I remember right, when Sheriff hit the top 40, I heard the DJ say something about the song setting some sort of record for the longest held note in top 40 history. Of course, that was over 30 years ago, so the record may have been smashed by now.

David Coverdale was originally in Deep Purple. I think his voice got better after he left and started Whitesnake. He still sounds good and ehem, looks good too. Whitesnake had some of the best musicians in and out of the band.

I bought this album right away, when it came out. Here I go Again, and Is This Love were #1 songs, if I remember correctly. Tawny Kitaen, who got pretty famous from this video, was an actress also. She was in Tom Hanks first movie “Bachelor Party” which I saw in the movie theatre, when it first came out. It’s a pretty funny movie. Sadly Tawny passed away in May of this year. I’m still not sure how she died. It was unclear, as far as I know. Also she married the Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, shortly after they made this video together. I think they were married two years, and then divorced.

Oh David Coverdale, my favourite singer ever!!!! His voice has it all! And he is a fabulous storyteller. Sang in Deep Purple mid seventies and then started his own band, namned after... well you now... He was at his best late seventies to early eigthies. Coverdale is a blues singer so he is at his best in the more bluesy stoff like "Trouble", "Come on" and of course the wonderful "Aínt no love in the heart of the city" And also the super great songs from Deep Purple with him singing like "Burn", "Soldier of fortune", "Mistreated" and many many others. You have struck a gold mine!!!!

Check out Ordinary Man, Fight the Good Fight, Lay it on the Line and for an awesome guitar solo, try Rock and Roll machine. They live shows were awesome. Both of you would like them for different reasons.

I recommend studio versions, mostly. Although the US Festival performance is a good live choice. They were a fantastic live band, but the available video’s aren’t that great.

One of my all time fav. bands. i love his hair. This is the best Whitesnake song ever. My bf taught me how to play i swear he was about to give up on me he was like girl you aint got it. He kept up with it and gave me so much time to learn it was a labor of love for sure but 4 yrs. later i was playing like a rock star. 43 yrs later i am still playing with him in his band. I am a lucky girl for sure.

Every now and then there would be a 4th, which could be a ballad, or heavy depending on what the record company wanted. For example, Skid Row was "Youth Gone wild," "18 And Life." Oh yeah, Whitesnake were fun. The lead singer David Coverdale still has it going on. He was the replacement singer for Deep Purple in the early 70s then started this band when Purple broke up. A ton of great guitarist & drummers have passed through this band.
