Just did this. Turned out to be a nightmare job. 2 impeller bolts snapped off in the gearbox housing. I’m astounded at how badly the water galleries clog up. The aluminum in this Yamaha is average quality compared to my 2004 evinrude even! Is now pumping but just spluttering water out. (As it did previously) I’ve not found one single video where it’s a steady stream of water. I’m not convinced it shouldn’t be a better stream of water. Does this have a thermostat (I can’t find anyone changing it online). If the water pump galleries (under the stainless plate) were 90% clogged with corrosion. The rest of the engine must be a mess!!! The motor is in new condition. Mine has about 10 hours on it (black up only) and it’s always been run for 15 minutes in a bucket of water after every outing. Also. Hot tip. ZIP tie the gearbox selector grub screw on its shaft to prevent it going up as you slide it all into place. Else re-installing the gearbox is nightmare!!!

@@ibsn87 yes, the 5hp Yamaha 2 stroke has a thermostat. 👍

@@audiokeller1975 you are right. I am now well acquainted with the cooling system after the last few days. I have removed the exhaust and thermostat housing and the top cylinder cover plate. It was 70-80% clogged full of calcium, crystals mixed with minor corrosion and possibly a bit of sand. After doing the water pump it was sputtering water out the tell tail, like on every KZbin video. So I assumed it was fixed to an appropriate standard. I’ve just never been convinced it should sputter water though. That’s not how water pumps work!! I decided not to be lazy and inspect the thermostat knowing I would likely need to order gaskets again. Glad I did!!!! Scraping it all out. Letting an aluminum etching acid paste sit in there to help clean it up, gearbox back off so I could ensure all this crud didn’t go back down into the water pump and ensure the pipe remained clear. The galleries are so small, one decent ingestion of sand and it will collect and prevent our outboard from flushing properly and or draining properly ever again. If anyone is doing the water pump. I would say is mandatory to inspect the thermostat!! (I can’t believe was still operating and running even with such major blockages!)

Thanks, man 😎👍 It’s older content which I saved from my old boating channel which died. Rockford is also doing lots of marine audio btw. I don’t plan Marine Audio , it’s very interesting, but here you get busted with loud audio or exhaust systems installed in a boat 🚤 If you listen to my track with a nice sound system it would be cool to get a video of it 👍😎
