Amazing, the prices differences with Europe are huge. I just traded my 2014 R1200GSA with all the bells and whistles for a T7 World Raid. The T7WR is a LOT cheaper than the KTM890, Norden 901, Tiger 900RP and Dessert X. I tried the 901, was way too small for my 1.90m / 6'3". Also the unreliability issues that I keep on reading didn't help. The Dessert X, besides the price, is just too thirsty for me. Combined with the tank volume, it's just not good enough for touring for me. Not even talking about maintenance costs and my Italian trauma with reliability when I had a Guzzi. The T7WR, beside being a lot cheaper, ticks all the boxes for me. Still light, low maintenance, very economical with fuel + the huge tank, very comfy for my tall body, great looks and amazingly reliable. I love cruise control and a quickshifter, both I will add in the form of a throttle lock and aftermarket healthtech quickshifter. So eventually I hope to have a bike that, although with less horsepower, can do the same as my GSA but than 50-60 kgs lighter. The GSA is great on unpaved adventures, but such a challenge when you add luggage. Too bad Yamaha seems to have done some real strange AUD conversions there....

Yeah Yamaha have lost the plot here, they have only just started trickling in as well. A fully 3 months after their latest release date. Im so glad I got my deposit back. Im putting a few videos up now of my latest trip which was about 9600km. Fuel consumption wise it was actually pretty good especially in the offroad parts where I had it in enduro mode so only 75hp it went really well. But yeah the cruise control really helped on some big days, something I definitely would have missed if I purchased the World Raid.

I feel your pain, here in the UK the launch price for the World Raid was £11800, which was about £1900 more than the stock T7, and about£1000 more than the Rally Edition (which had paint job, gold wheels, Akro and a few other extras). The current prices have risen further, to £10,100 for T7, £11,400 T7 Rally Edition and £11,900 for T7 World Raid! When they launched the World Raid, I had a Rally Edition since it came out, and once I had seen the World Raid, I just thought wow, that’s how the T7 should’ve been like from day one, just looks so much better. To be honest, I was disappointed that they hadn’t updated it with CC and tubeless wheels and was shocked at the price over the standard T7. So much so, that I look at and ended up buying the then new Norden 901. It ticked so many boxes, with a lot of extras over the WR, for not a huge amount more. Anyway, cut a long story short, reliability issues and a engine that “sounded like a bucket with nuts and bolts rattling about”, after only owning the 901 for short amount of time, I went and test rode the WR. Next thing, I swallowed my losses and I’m back on a T7 World Raid since May 2022. So I tried the dark side (didn’t work out), and I’m so happy to be back on a Yamaha T7 World Raid. It’s quite an improvement on my old T7 Rally Edition, suspension is brilliant for me, so much more compliant, front and rear (never totally happy with standard RE suspension), seat is much more comfortable, new dash is a nice addition, foot pegs are bigger and better for standing. Icing on the cake, bigger fuel tanks are great and the look of the WR over the standard T7, is a winner for me. If there is one thing that disappoints, it’s the price. Here in the UK, £11,900 won’t get you a Ducati Desert X (they are about £15,000), but it is near as dammit knocking on the KTM and Husqvarna doors, and the Aprilia Tuareg 660 is a bargain £10,600. For you, the T7 World Raid would’ve been a great bike, but Yamaha Australia are absolutely mad to price it in the Ducati Desert X bracket, what the hell are they thinking, can’t see the WR selling well at that price! As good as the WR is, the Ducati Desert X, is definitely a superior bike, in equipment and probably fit and finish. I do believe that the T7 in all its versions, is a big cash cow for Yamaha, when you compare their prices, to other Yamaha models. Congratulations on your new DDX bike, hope you have many enjoyable miles ahead of you. 👍

Thanks for your reply, I was absolutely gobsmacked when they released the price of the World Raid. As I had been waiting so long for them to release it, then so long after I put a deposit on one, It ticked so many boxes for me, except price once they released those figures. It still Amazing how super quiet Yamaha Australia have been about this bike. Totally agree on the "bucket of bolts sound" from the Norden. With 2min of riding the desert x I knew I had made the right choice. Lets see how the choice goes on a 10000km trip in the middle of the year 🤞

Wow Yamaha Australia really like a markup, in the UK the T7 WR is listed at £11900, but no one is paying full price as it has been a bit of a sales disaster for them, I looked at buying one and I could easily pay £11000 for a 2023 bike, but there are still some un registered 2022 bikes around at £10600, I am now looking at a Desert X, they are more expensive, but the quality is fantastic. Thanks for all the videos.

No worries, the interesting thing here is that they still have not realeased it. So glad I got the Desert X instead of the world raid. I didnt think I would like all the electronics on the Desert X, but they have come in handy on a fair few occasions now. Even just having cruise control to sit at 110kph down the highway for hours comes in so handy. Which the World Raid does not have.

@@koalakoncepts You made the right choice, at least you turn the electronics off on the X if you wanted, you can't turn them on on WR as they are not there. Just watching your reveal video.

@DavidZ8 That's for sure, easy to turn off. Ill get to test it out properly in about 2 months when I do a 10000km trip on it 😉
