I thought I wouldn't like 5 disc changers until I bought one (Technics) a few years ago for the hell of it. I actually ended up loving it and grabbed another. I like that you can put in a double album (or longer) and listen to the whole thing without swapping discs.

Thank you! My 615 is now working great! It's been in our family since new in 91' (ish) so it's sentimental, even if it's not exactly the best CD player ever made. Needed a new carousel belt, a clean, some lube, and it seems happy as can be. PlayExchange is always a fun trick too.

I've owned several thrift store 5CD carousel players and the disc search switch needed repeat cleaning with intermittent periods of failed disc read until ultimately dying. For $10 they were ok for a year or two. GeeBay sells this model from $60-$85. 5disc players are great if you're entertaining guests and want to play selections from your cd collection without being a DJ every 40 mins.

I've had just two five disc players in my time! One Sony and now an Onkyo! The sony was better on disc reading and didn't skip as easy! My Onkyo would skip on heavy bass so I put some damping pads under the feet and that helped!

It's nice to see that they invented a digital 💿 version of the 1960s Garrard type automatic record changer.🥰 Not sure why they didn't stay with the tried and true 'stack em on a long spindle' method.🤭

Hope November brings you lots of cool turntables. Don't be hard on yourself broseph. Fiddly getting it sorted sometimes. I used my grinder to take the points off my bench phillips screwdrivers to convert them to JIS, before I bought actual JIS. They work much better after taking the tips off and 0 cam out when torquing down any Japanese equipment.
@TurntableGuy Жыл бұрын
Might have to try that with the screwdrivers.

This is a good tip. Where did you get a jis set? The sets I see are not jis even though they are advertised as that.😮
@Poppinwheeeeellllllieeeeez Жыл бұрын
@TurntableGuy I learned about it when I was restoring Japanese motorcycles. My brother and I built a truckload of Cafe racers in the early 2000's and previous owners would have the original engine cover screws mangled with standard screwdrivers. Japanese Industrial Standard is the same whether its a turntable or a motorcycle.

Are there cases where the grease on the lazer rails gets old and chunky, affecting the lazer movement and reading of disc?

Absolutely.

Belts are always due for a change on these, sled needs a clean and lube, latley we see more of these Yamaha's with gear issues.
@TurntableGuy Жыл бұрын
The gear on the sled motor is susceptible to cracking - surprisingly this one was ok.

I have a Yamaha CDC 685 and I started seeing what looked like white dust or little bits on the tray. It finally dawned on me the plastic gears in there are white. It started doing this weird stuttering shaking thing so I opened her up and sure enough that little gear that drives the CD ray part is in bad shape. Can I replace that gear or maybe that whole section some how?
@vonclod1238 ай бұрын
@@bigmacfullerton7870 I don't think you can, only if you find a donor unit. We have thought about 3d printing the part but not there yet.

THANKS FOR ANSWERING. IS HOW DO I IDENTIFY THE LIMIT SWITCH? ONLY TIME I OPENED THE CASE UP WAS TO REPLACE THE O-RING FOR THE TRAY TO OPEN.

See if the service manual is available for download at hifiengine.com

Ok so I'm all for watching new people on youtube and try to keep an open mind. I hate to have it but I have a few gripes... Why didn't you demonstrate the play C change? Doing so would have got you to see the plastic thing that comes out with the tray is to keep you from putting a disc In that spot during the playXchange. There were a few things that frustrated me but that was the one I had to mention. I also do believe that CD player to be not very high end because of the omission of a any kind of digital out, as well as no way for the player to communicate with a receiver or tape player for remote and recording sync. Thank you have a great day keep up the good work.

I have a Yamaha CDC- 565 that the tray keeps opening.Tray closes, then when you hit play, tray opens. Any ideas?
@TurntableGuy Жыл бұрын
It's the limit switch that activates when the door is fully closed. Clean or adjust it's position.
@RobertKing9514 ай бұрын
Yes clean the switch that activates when the tray is fully opened and the o E that's hit when it's fully closed. It's opening because it doesn't k ow it reached its destination so it's trying to u stuck itself. Like when you push a CD drive shut but block it so it stops and opens.. The switch usually two little brass metal strips that get pushed together somewhere in the unit when the tray is fully in the Close position.
